You play as Midnight the cat as she attempts to rescue her friend Day from the old dark wizard's tower. Midnight's Journey is a short action platformer where you must run and jump your way up the wizard's tower. The old wizard was a dark man and set many traps for those who dare to enter. As you climb the tower you must navigate moving magical platforms and objects of death all while not falling to your own demise. Do you have what it takes to reach the top of the wizard's tower and rescue Day?

It would have been neat if there was some kind of opening screen before the actual game started. It feels a bit off being thrown into the scenery right upon opening the game

Couldn't get past the jigsaw, as I was writing this I checked the other feedback and noticed you mentioned entering debug mode. I'll update when I try it out.

Finally got past the jigsaw, I liked the change of tiles and the different "areas" on the inside and outside of the tower. Collisions weren't exactly physically accurate but I never got stuck. That being said the jumping felt unforgiving with such high gravity, the jump arc was very frustrating. The dialogue and shadow tech was cool. I finally figured out what was making the random "pew" noise, that arrow trap section with the moving platforms was grueling. Would have enjoyed the game much more with better control over the player (variable height jump, longer jump time).

Good work, I see you're a competent programmer, just need to work on the design and balancing aspect of things!

Couldn't get past that first sigsaw thingy. The sound also triggered randomly.

Anyway, cute cat. Congratz on your first gamejam :)

Congrats! You finished your first game jam with a playable game!

Your cat is cute and bouncy, Your collisions seemed smooth. Thank you for the save points. The text boxes were stellar.

My main suggestion would be to make the jump action only happen on key press instead of keyboard. It may feel more intuitive to the player.

The controls do need some more time in the cooker and the jumping gave me fits. Thanks for the feedback. I do want to go back and polish it up a little and definitely fix some the bugs I just ran out of time with.

Ah, it was impossible to get past that one sigsaw as there was invisible ceiling, and couldn't jump high enough. The graphics were nice, but that sound effect is way too loud :s The platforming felt bit too fast and slippery, but not too bad. And good job with your first jam entry :)

I just go past it so it is possible but I think it was pure luck as it's very tight. I just went back and checked the collider tilemap and collider objects and there are no colidders but I think there is bug with moving platform since if you just skip the platform using debug mode the jumping is fine there but if you touch the platform it gets wonky. If you want to get past it you can press F1 to enter debug mode and then click anywhere you want to move Midnight.

The controls do need some work. This my first platformer and probably wasn't a safe choice to do something new for a jam but I did it so I would force myself to learn and I learned a lot. Thanks for the feedback.

    Congrats on your first gamejam!!

Too bad it's seemingly impossible to beat the game, due to an invisible collision above the moving saw next to the moving platform :(

Thank you! After looking at that section it looks like it's a bug with the moving platform. If you skip riding the platform using debug mode (F1 and the mouse to move) the jumping works fine but if you ride the platform up your jump height gets short for some reason. I'll dig through my code and figure out. I had a bug with my jumping and I think fixing one thing ended up breaking another and I didn't catch it.

Thank you for the feedback and kind words.

Its a very charming game but the controls feel quite crude. It was difficult for me to enjoy since some movement was unexpected. A good example of this can be seen where jumping off of the moving platform felt like it was blocked by an invisible wall.

The controls do need work and there seems to be a bug with jumping and the vertical moving platforms. Thanks for the feedback.
