How to play
Space - throw/retrieve fishing rod

When you catch the fish, a spinning-wheel will appear. You must spin it with your mouse while tapping spacebar to pull the fish out of the water. The harder you throw, the more you have to spin.

2
About the game
No competition, no pressure. Just relax and enjoy fishing on this lonely island!

3
Know Bugs
Sometimes the sequence acts a bit weird, and is a bit jittery. I couldn't figure out how to fix it before deadline. I hope it isn't too distracting, will fix it after the jam.

Those were some big fish! Cute artstyle! For me it wasn't clear what the reeling/rotating really did, or the throwing. Felt like it didn't matter much what you did and still got the fish. But that's fine! Some sort of feedback would've been nice when reeling, knowing if you were close to getting the fish or just some sort of feeling that what you did did something. Even if it was just visuals.

Nice job! Haven't seen a game like this before here :)

Thanks for the feedback! I'll figure out the reeling part. There are lots of things to fix and rework! Thanks for playing!

A short and fun little game. Absolutely love the artstyle, I just wish we could see what the fish look like! Nice work!

A short little game, I wish the fish catching sound made me think of more pure things

Thanks for playing! "pure things"? What do you mean? It's the sound of shaking a water bottle if you're wondering

    Simple, but pretty sweet!

I think the artstyle fits very well! I wish we could see what the fish looked like once caught :)

Cute little idea! I like fishing games and it's cool to see what kinds of things you can catch. It would be nice if I could see the fish, and sometimes I was reeling in forever and felt like I was getting nowhere... maybe there could be an indicator to show progress?

Thanks for playing! I could make an indicator, but I wanted to keep it as minimal as possible. I'll try to find another way to show how much reeling is left. I'm also figuring out the fish part too, thanks for the feedback!

It certainly was that, it was just fishing - it felt as though the prizes were randomised though? I don't know if there was any skill based in catching the fish or if there was a technique to getting a different variety, I would've also liked to have seen the fish I'd caught as they came out - but overall, you did the relaxing zen vibe nicely and it has a certain charm to its simple aesthetic, not bad :)

I'm glad you liked it, Thanks for playing!

The prizes are randomized, but you can get better scores by throwing harder. the harder you throw, the more you'll have to reel the fish in.

I'll improve the fish and the results box after the jam. Thanks for the feedback!

A charming, relaxing little time killer. Nice variety of fish, and I personally enjoyed that they are described, rather than shown; after all, aren't fishermen known to tell tall tales of the fish they've caught? :D

Thanks for playing! I'm glad, and a bit surprised that you liked the lack of fish sprites! I haven't thought of the desciption that way, I might be able to add more to that... Thanks for the feedback!

Fun to mess with for a few minutes. I caught some massive creatures. This stick man is some kind of superman and these fish are clearly eating too well.

I like the kinematic feel of physically spinning the reel to catch the fish. You could have just left it at mashing spacebar and called it a day, but adding that extra level of interaction makes this feel more like a game instead of a waiting simulator, and I appreciate that.

I also like that you can catch different kinds of fish. Maybe an extra thing to think about adding would be a fishing log documenting every species that you've caught?

Thanks for playing! I'm glad that you liked the fishing mechanic! I thought of adding a highscore system, but I thought people wouldn't like game that is probably going to be deleted soon, saving files on their computers. Maybe I will add it in the release version thanks!

You know, there is something charming about the scrappy stick figure man. You don't often see art that is scribbled like that inside a game.

Game is as described! Also, I went to immediately look up what brown catfish are normally sized because I think I caught an absolutely monster haha. I love that.

I found the first part of the fishing game chill. The holding space bar. I think the second portion where I had to reel it in felt less chill because it was pretty hectic. I wasn't sure if I was rotating it correctly so I think adding in a little feedback would work.

Sound wise I think the splashing was repetitive and varying it could add to a zen feel more.

Lots of neat ways to go with this!

Thanks for the in-depth review, I'm glad you enjoyed the game! Thanks for the compliment on the artwork, I was never good at drawing and this was my first attempt at this style.

Currently the fish names, size, weight are all random so there might be an arm-length shark, or a truck-size carp. I'm deciding whether to leave it like that or make it more realistic.

I'll work on the reeling part. I've received many requests to rework that part so I'll figure out a better way to explain it or something else. I'll add some more sounds too thanks for the feedback!

      Thanks for playing!

      • Happysquared

I think a nice option would be to also have a "dark mode" too. And that might add a nice option to people who want to rest their eyes a little and add to the chill vibe you were going for.

I love the fish sizes are random haha.

You are correct. Just fishing. Not a bad entry for a game jam

Thanks for playing! I wish I could have done more, but I scrapped my original idea with little time left. So there's much room for improvement for this one. Thanks for the review!

Basically exactly as the title suggests. For what it is it works pretty well, the only thing I was unsure about was if my mouse was supposed to rotate clockwise or counter clockwise, turns out it was counter clockwise in my case. It took me a few goes to work that out and I ended up only throwing my hook out a little bit so I could reel the fish in quicker. It would of been cool to see the actual fish! Everything seems pretty solid here, overall a fun little time killer!

Thanks for playing! You can spin the wheel either way, I'll make a better explanation after the jam. If you throw only a little bit, you can reel the fish quicker, but you won't get the extra points! I'll try to add the actual fishes later. thanks for the feedback!

  • OoTrillionoO

Does exactly what it says on the tin. I came, I saw, I fished.

Gameplay-wise, I found the reeling a bit confusing. I wasn't sure if I needed to circle clockwise or counter clockwise at first, so a more clear indicator would be helpful. While the increase in reeling for distance thrown is interesting, I'd like to know how much I need to reel and/or see some form of progress while reeling to know how far along I've gotten.

    Thanks for sharing your work~

Thanks for the kind review! As for the reeling, you can reel either way. I should have explained it a bit better sorry. I'll find a way to show the distance amount, thanks for the feedback!
