Point and click, inventory based dungeon game where you need to collect items that can be sacrificed to the Dungeon master, depending on his peculiar requests (he gets up to all sorts of satanic rituals) so expect some fun and weirdness at times.

I paid special attention to making the voice and music to create the atmosphere.

I made the graphics and game mechanic as simple as possible.

Press 'offer' to offer an item Press 'discard' to drop an item (not pickupable again) Exit Room if you don't want to pick up anything.

TIP:

Offering something is better than nothing.. consider this as a 'sacrifice'. Offering something important that you need keeps the Dungeon Master of your back for a bit longer.

COLLECT: (numbers indicate the bag space used up)

Rope - 30

Hook - 25

Gunpowder - 10

Kindling - 8

Other items possibly needed by the Dungeon Master

Goat Head - 16

Ouija board - 12

Mask - 6

Smaller items are less than 5

Really neat game! I included it in my GM48: Sacrifice compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/j63-vhZNW1o

The gameplay is pretty minimal and feels a bit random. There is some strategy in deciding what to take when your inventory's getting full, but it's still not much.

Where this game really shines is the atmosphere. The voice gives a nice sinister feel, and the music complements it well. The other sound effects are good, too. The graphics look very nice, especially the ending. The animation of opening and entering a door also works well.

I feel like the guidelines for this jam should mention something about not using installers (if they don't already) since I've seen quite a few around.

Yeah, the installer was a complete noobish mistake on my part, I definately don't like those and was assuming I chose the right option, shame I didn't have time to actually test my upload, was all quite last minute.

Thanks, I am glad you enjoyed the games atmosphere and did get to the end :)

The installer doesn't bother me, but optional fullscreen is mandatory. I am a coward and hearing the guy in a sinister voice narrating the game while I smashed Alt + Enter to toggle fullscreen without success was not a pleasant experience at all, haha.

But the game started and the ambience was amazing. I died at least two times trying to understand the game, but when I finally get the hang of it, it became a fun and pleasant experience, as I had to strategize what items I could take with me to finish the game. The narrator grew on me, as some entonations he gave on some phrases are much more cheerful (or drunk, as Kwis said) than sinister, I really digged that.

So, the art of the game is really beautiful, the atmosphere were god tier and I received the blessings of RNJesus, as everytime the Dungeon Master called me, I always had the item he demanded (I really thought this was intentional, I was surprised when I read the other reviews). So, I had a lot of fun, this game is amazing. Great work!

Aw thanks, okay points noted for next game jam :)

Glad you enjoyed it, I have added a few tips to the description to help those new to the game who are looking for a bit of hand holding but yes, it's trial and error, random luck and learning what to appease him with, give him just to keep him off your case or give him something more meaningful to you.

Okay, I know it has already been stated but this sure can never be stressed enough: No installers! No! Bad, bad! Never ever use these in a game jam! It's the best way to prevent people from playing your game, remember that there are a lot of games :/

That said, I also agree with the full screen that should always be optional.

As for the game itself, the atmsophere is really nice! Though at some moments, the voice seemed... kinda drunk. "not quite what I was askehhhn" for example, gives me chuckles everytime. :D

My issue is that the RNG is waaaay too present. That there is luck in finding items is a thing, but sometimes, you can get spammed by the sacrifice 3 times in a row! Fortunately, not giving him what he wants doesn't kill you but when it happens, you are basically screwed. I lost 3 times in a row because he kept coming at me and the best I could gather were 2 items... that he made me take away a few moments later :/ I guess I can't get lucky enough to win...

Ok. Next Jam will be better, no installer.

Sometimes you need to sacrifice what you need in order to keep him of your back for longer. Yes it is random.

The worst thing about this game is the installer, the best thing is the atmosphere.

Voice acting was alright, art and sounds were just above average, and the gameplay was kinda repetitive, but taking all that into consideration I have to say this game was a lot better than the intro led me to think, the items you needed to win were just rare enough for the gameplay to be long enough without getting frustrating, and it was overall well balanced, except for the fact that you could literally give the master anything and he would never kill you.

But I had fun, and the game was really immersive, for the next time consider making the fullscreen optional and not using an installer, and it'll be even better.

Thanks, regrets about the installer and yeah, you can offer anything the best thing to offer is what he wants or one of your needed to escape things. (spoiler) You eventually die when you can't give him what he wants after a while. (it's all hidden code but also part of the puzzle).

Thanks for playing and reviewing it. !

There was not a much in grpahical-wise, but nice picture at the end. The gameplay at first was confusing, and later I undersood better. It was well made atmosphere with narration and music. The transition would have looked better, if you have made a bit more high-res door. The font was almost unreadable, especially word like "uninvited", thanks to narration I could understand what was written. But it was nice point & click game :)

Next time, upload a zip, not a installer. Installers are annoying for jamgames.

Sacrifice, the giving based on the theme 'Sacrifice' was a daring attempt to make a game about being in a dark dungeon with only the voice of a keeper in your head. Looking back at the execution of the game, it did lack flow of build-up, it lacked story or how or why. If I were to remake this game it would be in a top-down style with the occasional, lights blown out, hear the dungeon keepers voice, then the flames come back to the torches, then you have a timer starts, as your heart beats faster and faster, it explodes in fear if you cannot do the objective in time.

Extra: Graphics Time required: 30 hours Coding Time required: 30 hours

Seeing as I spent about 30 hours of the possible 48 on this game, it would have required an extra 60 and then something else would have had to go unfinished or looking bad, being a one man team it is difficult to bite off more than you can chew.!
