****Bug where game freezes if your POWER dips below 400. You get closer and closer to the sun as your POWER decreases until you die at 0. All that happens when you die is it saves the stats for that run, adds it to your total stats, and sends you to the main menu. So that is all you are missing. You can still win just fine! Please still play and rate what you can! I will fix and update it after all the voting so as not to cheat. Sorry everyone :(

****Also, this was made with GMS 1.4 so it has the fullscreen bug if you have the latest updates with Windows 10. So if you want fullscreen just run the EXE in compatibility mode for Windows 8 or 7 and it should then work fine.

HOW TO PLAY

A/D - Move

E - Eject 100 Humans

MOUSE1 - Fire Laser

ESC - Pause

You need POWER to outrun the sun. Get POWER by using your laser on satellites or other human ships. POWER drains over time. The rate is increased by moving, being hit by obstacles (asteroids, satellites, alien laser shots), and by the amount of humans you have on board.

You can also destroy aliens and asteroids with the laser.

ALIENS ATTACK! Humanity has managed to hold on and in complete desperation the aliens have done the unthinkable! They have caused our sun to supernova!

You have managed to escape on your mining vessel and are trying to outrun the sun's wrath! Can you manage to get to the safe zone and escape? Can you save humanity? Or is this the end...

You decide who lives and who dies. How many will you save?

The art of this game is pretty cool, the music is very nice and although the sounds are a bit too loud, they're cool too.

On a bullet hell like this, though, it's very important that the hitbox of the main character is small, as it greatly helps to avoid take damage. The speed of the ship is OK. Maybe you could add a dash movement if you want to.

    Great job!

This seems like it should be cool, but I just can't get into it. The ship feels too big and slow to give you much chance of dodging the enemy attacks. The enemies also take an annoyingly long time to die. The game crashes certainly didn't help. I do think the idea of using the laser to both fight and regain energy is pretty interesting, though.

The graphics look great. I especially like the parallax effect with the stars in the background. The music and laser sounds are also good, though the rest are a bit are too loud in comparison.

Really nice and polished game, I love how many options you have.

Art was a little above average, like the sound, and gameplay was interesting but repetitive.

Worst thing overall was the balance and presence of bugs, the distance you have to travel to reach the safe zone is way too big, but I still managed to reach it because you can sacrifice more humans than you have, resulting in negative energy loss that basically makes you invincible.

Still a fun game and concept, next time playtest more in order to find all the bugs before release tho.

      Thanks for playing!

Yeah, the one value I forgot to clamp was the human count. One of my friends also found that within like 10 minutes of him playing after the deadline haha. Oh well.

This was my first jam to actually complete and be able to upload something 'finished' so I am very happy (even though I'm sad at some of the bugs). I've always run out of time before trying to do too much and that is my biggest hurdle with these competitions. I tried to be much more concise and deliberate with this game so I would have the chance to finish. I need to be even more simple in the future though, to allow for plenty of playtesting. I did play it as I went, but mostly to playtest different things I was adding rather than to just playtest the game as a whole.

      Thanks again!

Challenging game! I included it in my GM48: Sacrifice compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/PCTrkXRBDB4

Nice job! Love the different enemies! Some enemies felt like they had too much health. Graphics had a nice look and feel to it as well. Some of the sounds were a little loud when they played all at once but overall nice sounds.

    Good job!

Interesting game with good art and great music! Sense of urgency but it seemed to be from fear of the power reaching 400. Cool sounds but the bullet hits were very loud compared to the music. Also when I hold the laser down for a long time, the text/screen shakes off the screen and gradually goes out the game window until I let go of LMB where it repositions. Also, I didn't really see the purpose of sacrificing humans as the laser seemed to generate enough (maybe I didn't play long enough though) Good work, and I can see lots of potential!

Thanks so much for playing! The sub-400-power-crash-bug made me so mad! It ended up being due to something I changed last minute that (what I thought) only changed something aesthetically. Oh well!

I almost axed the screen shake when firing the laser (because there is another when something hits you) but in the end left it. I definitely need to make it reset to the original position over time though!

The more humans you have, the more your power drains. . The idea was that you might get to a point where all the humans you have saved are becoming too much of a burden to your power. I didn't give myself a ton of time to playtest different values for each of the formulas so it is definitely something that needs to be tweaked!

      Thanks again!

    Cool laser animation effect.

Constructive criticism -The "w" key might make for more comfortable finger placement on the keyboard than"e" at least for my big hands.
