WOW I'm sleep deprived it's 4AM and I've worked probably 36 of the 48 hours, but I hope it's worth it :)

Take to the streets as the Mean-Stopper, and uncover clues about who the wild Meanie actually is, before taking him (or her) down! Featuring randomized civilians, 4 (actually 3) levels, a quality tutorial, a 3-song soundtrack(!), many sound effects, voice acting, and generated puzzles galore! A lot of heart went into this, and almost as much time (~36 of the 48)! I really hope you like it!

Gameplay: The Meanie will periodically bully civilians near him (yes, it is a proximity system), who will start crying. Question the crying victims to get a clue as to the Meanie's identity, but watch out! Doing so will send one of the Meanie's goons after you, who will relentlessly track you down. Once you think you know who the Meanie is, take the shot and lock them up.

Buttons you need to know that the tutorial doesn't mention:

  • Esc - Back to menu
  • Mouse Click - Skip opening cutscene, return to menu once you win or lose
  • R - Retry

Normal Buttons:

  • WASD - Move
  • Left-Click - Interrogate/Shoot when net-gun is drawn
  • Right-Click - Draw net gun

Nice game! I included it in my compilation video series of all of the games from the GM48, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/Wy06AcGSYb8

I agree, you should start the game with someone already crying. Also, like Fachewachewa, i just felt like waiting for them to pile up cause it is more efficient to deal with goons since you literally can't find the target without allll the clues.

Not sure what goons are by the way. I mean, if they're aiming to make you fail, wouldn't you need to arrest them as well for being an obstacle to justice?

    edit

By the way, not so keen on the vocabulary. The word "meanie" repeated so many times feels childish :/ if it was just said once maybe...

Also, I like the banner. I think you should have used that style of picture for the thumbnail. As it is, the thumbnail isn't very inviting!

Thanks for all the info! I'm going to let you in on a secret here which I apparently did not make clear, but the Meanie attacks on proximity. The goons are mainly gameplay, and I totally concede that their logic is not too valid. As for meanie, eh I wanted to keep it at a childish state. Thank you very much for the feedback on the thumbnail though! I've been fretting over that for a while now!

Really good tutorial that explains well how to play the game and in a fun way, the game itself can be boring in the beginning (I think you should start with someone already crying) but gets progressively harder and harder as you have to keep track of the people coming after you and the clues you have.

Overall a really solid game that gets held back just by the art imho.

Yeah, maybe having people wait was a poor choice, but I hoped it would give players a chance to catch the meanie in action. Sorry to hear that about the art, but as I wasn't part of a team, well, time constraints. Also, since each individual consists of five separate sprites for randomization, and my computer sucks, I had to keep things to a low resolution. But I'll keep working on that, thank you sincerely for the feedback!

I loved the concept ! The intro was great too. I found the game a little too hard though (but easy is too easy :D).

Some pathfinding would have been nice since the goon can just get stuck in a wall, but it's not that bad because we don't really have another way to deal with them. Also, I tend to stay on the bottom of screens because you can't see the face of people going up.

Another detail for balancing : levels can get a little long to start, but then you can just wait to have multiple people to interrogate at once, so you don't have to deal with goons !

Yeah, this was a decently challenging game at points, but you can start to find a rhythm (although I'm very biased as the creator). But thank you for your feedback! Pathfinding would have been nice, but sleepless as my nights were I simply ran out of time. It is also an interesting note that you really can't see goons facing up, but alas, I'm just going to call it a 'feature' :P Your last statement is very true as well. I think I could have very well shortened the countdown timer to start with, but the waiting is a valid strategy. I guess you can play at whatever pace you wish to?

Thank you again for the really thoughtful reply! I'll keep this all in mind!

Nice work, it was very amusing, especially the voice acting. The theme works well with this sort of game where you take your time.

This is such a cute game! I loved the concept, the sound, and the little intro at the beginning was too good. It took me a few tries to finally get the hang of it but once I did I really enjoyed chasing down the meanie through swarms of people... I felt like a true person of law!

(This would be an awesome local multiplayer game too!)

Thanks for the kind words! I'm really glad you enjoyed it, a lot of work went into this (and I do enjoy setting the tone with silly cutscenes, so I'm glad that pulled through too). Who knows, I might just see if I can get that local-multiplayer going one of these days. Always good to see a fellow couch-gamer!
