Lovely concept! I included it in my GM48: One Tool, Many Uses compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/CSolNVWY9mU

This is a ridiculously good game, incredibly well made! I had so much fun playing it, I even found myself attempting shortcuts and speed strats, it's so good.

The tape is very satisfying to use and allows a lot of room for freedom of movement. I found I could skip various platforms by saving my jump and getting full reach grabs, very well designed movement.

The music was damn funky too! I was seriously grooving out to the main menu music.

I guess the only criticism I can give is that the cones were pretty difficult to move around but weren't needed for any of the actual levels outside of the tutorial.

All I can say is very well made game and I would happily pay for a fully featured version.

Thank you for the kind words! Glad you have been having fun with the game!

It is a lot of fun to speed run, lots of little skips scattered through the levels. You can get moving pretty quick haha.

I wish I had more time to build out levels for the game jam. I had a few features implemented that unfortunately didnt make it into the levels!

Well, I loved the idea of using a tape measure to climb a building shameless self-plug on it's as awesome as using a pickaxe to climb walls and jump on spikes shameless self-plug off

The execution was great and I loved the art style. The title screen music was awesome.

Thanks for playing! I did try out the last miner game, I couldn't really get past the tutorial part though? The hold up and z attack didn't seem to work and I died to the spike like 10 times :(

Very nice game! The graphics are fantastic and the audio is similarly great. The core mechanic is a lot of fun (though manually extending the tape can be a bit annoying) and I like how the game is themed to tie all all the elements together. Most games have grapple points everywhere with no explanation but the construction site setting justifies the hooks all over the place.

However, I was a little disappointed by the use of the theme. It's not terrible but the tape measure is mainly only used as a grappling hook (in addition to its standard use of measuring stuff). I would have liked some more uses for it. The tutorial had a neat bit where you needed to press a button with the tape and it would have been cool to see more stuff like that in the actual game.

Thanks for playing! Unfortunately I just ran out of time to design more levels to incorporate the other mechanics. I wanted to ramp up the mechanics/difficulty smoothly, but designing and detailing levels took a lot more time than I anticipated. I thought I could get 2 more levels done, but due to IRL time constraints I had to prioritize other parts of the project to get it to a finished state.

Oh man, this game was pretty great! Polished to hell, no real flaws (aside it being a tiny bit repetitive)

I just love how it feels to extend and retract the tape while also using it to move on the level. It feels satisfying to use and I gotta say the gimmick is also pretty cute. I like how you actually have an objective and how you have your stats in the end, including the length measured!

    Good job!

EDIT: i also love that up and down also change the tape's length, it helped me a lot with the platforming

My thought behind using the mouse wheel was to try and emulate using a tape measure in real life haha and when I put it in it just had a weird but interesting feel to it. You can also get pretty quick with the mechanic and zoom around a bit which is fun.

This game was awesome, Everything from the starting menu to the end screen was polished af and tweened, I loved the idea and the controls, felt a little lacking on the overall level design, and you got only one use out of the measuring tape, but this still felt like a finished product, way better than what one would usually see out of a 48 hour jam.

Thanks for the kind words! Yeah unfortunatly I ran out of time to build out more levels. I had more mechanics implemented but I didnt get them in the level design. There are a ton of ways to go with the idea if we were to continue working on it though.

One of the better games in the jam, really enjoyed the pulling tape mechanic to move around. As others have mentioned, it's kind of hard to tell when you have the tape positioned in a way that will work. I want to add to that; sometimes when you have a hook highlighted and try to use the tape it doesn't pull you towards the hook, the check that determines whether to highlight the hook must be a little more precise than the check that actually pulls you to the hook.

The music in-game was pretty good, but the music on the title screen was awesome. Kinda wish the title screen music had kept playing during the gameplay, cause I didn't want to start the game and instead wanted to keep listening to that music haha. Would've been really cool if the title screen background scrolled horizontally slowly to go with that awesome music.

    Well done!

Thanks! I was hoping people wouldn't skip through the intro screen and hit play right away just because the lobby music takes a few bars to evolve. Starts out a little dopey, then turns into a cool reggae vibe, then the melody kicks in for a cool vibe.

I wanted to do a little bit more with the title screen. We were thinking of animating the logo so the tape measure would pop up and hook onto the logo and shake. I was also thinking of adding the main character eating his lunch looking over the cityscape on the end of a cross bar with the clouds slowly moving. It was very low on the priority list though :P

For the highlight, thanks for the feedback! It's a simple fix, it's just rectangles colliding with their corners which is not very precise. A little tweaking and I can get the visuals to match up perfectly.

Nothing much to add, very polished game, I sure hope it was longer. I was basically pressing up the whole time and zipping around almost instantly, fun time!

One little thing: at one point I had a weird death when I fell after taking a soda can on the left, I fell towards the moving platform and died for apparently no reason. EDIT : Oh yeah, I think that's it, I definitely was on the right side of the platform near the side so I guess I was between the static and the moving platform :p

Im just speculating, but you might have been crushed by the elevator. The player dies if pushed into solid objects. The effect isnt too obvious because I didnt make any animation or fx for being crushed.

Thanks for playing! We have a ton of ideas to take the game further, so potentially we will make a post jam release. Not 100% sure yet tho.

Nicely done! I wanted more, and it would've been fun to use the tape to defeat enemies in clever ways - but fine, you only had 2 days! :P Hope you work on this more.

I liked this game a lot. The mechanics were interesting. The art and and sound design was great, and the gameplay itself was challenging and rewarding. Felt very polished. What I say though, is I think this game did not follow the theme very much. The theme is one tool, many uses, and ultimately this game only uses the tool one way, to pull yourself in a direction. Ultimately a great game, but I think you could have tried a bit harder to build this around the theme.

Thank you for the feedback! I had mechanics implemented in the game for a few more uses (used slightly in the 2nd tutorial level, nudging cones/pressing switches). Because of the way I ramped the level difficulty, I was planning to introduce addition features in the next levels. Unfortunately, I only had a couple hours to work on the project the last day which I dedicated to finishing things I felt were needed to be a complete game. Game intro/story intro/story end/tutorial/bug fixing/end game screen/sound design to name a few! I thought I would be able to pump out 2 more levels but that proved to be one of the tasks that was taking the longest. I was programmer/level designer/sound designer on this project so ultimately I came a bit short on delivering on the theme. However, I think we made a really fun game :D! A few of my friends have been speed running it, but I still hold the record :] 1:20.47 from pressing the play button to completing the game.

What a fun concept. Zipping around feels just right, well done on the tuning. The coding, look and sound is outstanding, well done to the team.

Kudos for including a nice tutorial too. A real pleasure to play.

Pretty cool game. I loved the intro music. For a 48 game art and polish are pretty decent. I have some feedback's, these are just my personal opinions.

Unfortunately there is limit in the comment section and you can only write one. So I am attaching a doc link where I wrote my feedback's.

Thanks for the feedback! On the first point, I intentionally added the 1 block ledge on the first tutorial level as a hint that the player can jump, we also listed the controls in the description.

I wanted the controls to match up with the mechanic. It's intentionally clunky (until you get good with it) and wanted to give the feel of actually extending/retracting the measuring tape. In real life using a measuring tape can be bit awkward to use, so I felt it was appropriate. Half of the challenge is getting a hang of the controls. I will say though, after a bit of practice I am blazing through the levels and chaining grapples together zooming all over. There is a trick to timing your jump after grappling to keep up momentum.

On the third point, I agree. It's not super clear where you can grapple to on ledges. A visual hint would be a good addition. It's based off a grapple point object that I manually placed on corners of ledges.

      Thanks for playing!

Outstanding and very impressive game. Have you even participated before? I agree with the others but want to say the GUI was to big for my screen.

EDIT: idk my screen resulotion nor how to check it. The Text in the tutorial goes of the screen.

Thanks for playing! This is was our first gm48 jam, 2nd jam with the same group. About the GUI, what is your screen resolution? Were the buttons too big for your screen or what specific issues were you having?

I really appreciated the polish. There was a tutorial and settings. I liked how the tape could grab different objects like the hooks and the ledges and it could be used to push buttons. I thought it actually fit the theme pretty well. I also really adore the logo. The controls felt good. After doing the tutorial I was zipping around having fun

Awesome :D! I probably spent a little too much time zipping around during the jam as I was building levels lol. Turned out to be a pretty fun mechanic. It took a while to tune it in just right, had to fix a few bugs that ate up some time. Worth it though!

  • GRArthas

The game seemed fun and polished although it didn't follow the theme it is supposed to be 1 tool many uses you did 1 tool with 1 use and that is to grab now grabbing more than 1 things doesn't make it having many uses but either way for a 48h jam it was good

Thanks for playing! I had more uses planned and implemented! However, due to some IRL time constraints I ran out of time to build out the levels how I envisioned. I wanted the difficulty ramp to be smooth because I assumed it would take players a bit to get acclimated the main mechanic. I thought I could get two more levels done, in which to implement a few specific uses. For example, nudging cones onto switches, pressing wall buttons from afar or while jumping, activating conveyor belts and pushing cones onto them to trigger other things etc. Ultimately, my time crunch came down to either making more levels or making a cohesive game. If only I had more time!

Thanks! I wish we had more time to build levels for the jam and take the mechanic further. Ideally the game should be played with a mouse with a mouse wheel. But I wanted to at least make it somewhat accessible for laptop users, so I included the key binds. Half the fun of the game is getting used to the mechanic and flinging yourself off ledges though :D
