- 5 ready made songs to jump through the levels to
- Import your own songs (ogg only)
- Proc Gen Levels
- Stunning visual effects

- Ludwig van Beethoven - Für Elise (G0ldent0y dark edit)

Nice game! I included it in my GM48: Collect! compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/Lw5l602H5TY

Started off on the wrong foot, the main menu was scaled incorrectly on my ultrawide monitor. I spent a couple minutes fumbling around with the menus since I couldn't really see what I was doing, but managed to play through some Wagner. The gameplay idea itself was unique, I have to give you that much! Aside from that, there were a lot of issues with the execution. Mainly the fact that when you hit a block (I think the red ones) you just cut the game and hard restart the level, music and all. I think there could have been a death screen or some sort of indication of what made you fail. I think the technical aspect of the game was pretty impressive though!

Yeah, besides the common gameplay critique (deathblocks), the menu was a rough quick mockup (despite how it looks, its really bare bones). I used the wrong calculations for the menu placment, which leads to those issues you mentioned. It only works correctly with a standard HD resolution. I wasn't paying attention to that, since i never use something else in my setup. Still im thankful you found time to work around it somehow. Thx for the feedback. really appreciated.

Great looking game, and pretty crazy that you managed to make a rhythm(ish) game that's able to load custom songs(!!!) within 48 hours. Although maybe it's simpler than I think, because I don't know anything about music, idk xD
Unfortunately the menu is completely broken on my display. I'm guessing it doesn't scale properly or something (my display is 4K). As soon as I close the epilepsy warning, I see the menu options flash for 1 frame, and then disappear. I can sorta fumble my way around it, at least I can get into the songs, since when I press Space the menu items sometimes slide from side to side, and I can try to guess where in the menu I currently am. Here's a video of what it looks like... (also the game randomly crashed while recording that, I think I was in the options menu?)
I wish there was a way to disable fullscreen so I could experience the game correctly (idk, maybe there is a way through the options menu, but... you know... yeah >.<)

I really appreciate the time you fiddled around with it, to get it to work anyway. Thanks a lot. Your feedback is very helpful.

Amazing visuals! The whole concept is really interesting and it's really cool that you can use your own songs. But the insta death thing is a bit annoying and the menu was buggy for me. Everything was on the left and kinda cut off. Maybe it's my resolution (1440p). But overall great entry :D

Visuals were nice, for me the menu was glitched to either the left or right side so i had trouble starting a game:I Gameplay was ok. Solid entry, especially that you could add your own music, just the menu bug was kinda a downer.

This was impressively full-featured for a Jam entry, I loved the gamut of existing music included and the import ability (although didn't try the latter, I enjoyed the stock tracks too much!).
There was a surprising amount of animation from the character too - considering it was just a square, I loved how it stamped down in beat with the music in a kind of cute imagined way 😄
For complaints, I do think death was a little harsh - falling out of the level was to be expected but the death blocks that appeared I found quite difficult to handle, and one completely killing the song dead was a shame. I'd have loved modes akin to Audiosurf where you are basically guaranteed to see the song through then just graded on performance.
But this is impressive work overall for 48 hours, wonderful work. 😊

Thanks Allie for your feedback. Pretty proud i was able to put out 5 full songs during the jam (though i cheated a bit with ride of the valkyries and the fur elise remix since they are based on midis i downloaded from the net, pls dont bann me mods).
The insta death things is already the top complain, and definitely noted. I will release a full game version in a short while which will adress all the stuff people find negative.
i was planning on even more animation stuff (both from the 'character' and the environment) but had to cut short during the jam because i hit a roadblock in the last quater.
Again, thank you for the time playing my game.

Beautiful game! As someone who often uses squares for my game art, this really inspires me with how far you can take it. And of course the sound was great as well! The only problem is that I didn't get to hear the end of any song.
I don't quite know how you'd do it, but it would feel nice if the button mashes could somehow be aligned with the beat of the song. The way it is now, pressing the button on the beat doesn't do anything because your box is stuck to the ground. But like I said, no idea how you'd go about doing that!
Most of what I'm about to say has already been said, but I'll repeat it anyway for completeness.
Often I would die, and it was my own fault. Totally fair. Often I would die and it didn't feel like my fault. A few examples:
- The game flips upside down and I drop straight onto red square.
- The game puts 2 red pillars 3-high with a sliding zone in between
- The game puts a red pillar and a sliding zone together and it doesn't seem possible to clear both
- a red pillar is shrinking and nearly gone (like it's a speck) but I collide with the full hitbox
One idea might be to deduct score when you hit a red pillar, instead of dying, then I'd get to hear your sweet tracks. Maybe you can die if your score drops below zero? I don't know, you can figure it out! :)
I think there's a good idea here and it just needs a few tweaks. The flashing didn't bother me (very thoughtful to include the epilepsy warning upfront though) and I thought the visualization was great! Good job gt :)
PS. I uploaded a video of my playthrough, if you're interested.

Hey there. Thank you Naxos. I really appreciate the time you spent on my game, and the time to write down this thoughtful and very constructive feedback.
The game itself was a proof of concept, and obviously not everything works out smoothly during a jam. But i gathered enough information now, and will definitely work on an updated better version adressing all the issues you and others mentioned. Thank you for your great suggestions. I will defenitely think about implementing a more engaging control feature that checks how good on beat you are. Maybe even make the jump not automatically anymore (i wanted to seperate the game from similar games like geometry dash though, thats why i thought it might be fun to always jump 100% on beat).
The level creation is obviously the biggest concern from everyone, and thats definitely something i will work on. Level authoring was a planned feature, but i had to cut it short for the jam, so we are stuck with some impossible hard auto generated block sequences.
Thank you again for your feedback.

Visuals were pretty good but the flashing really hurt my eyes, combined with the sudden deaths this kinda made me give up earlier than I would have otherwise :(
Being able to load a song is fun, but I could really do it because my menues were absolutely broken and text was offscreen so I didn't see what I selected. Ended up in the options once, and the text was centered. Example, for the songs : https://i.imgur.com/AqqRCRJ.png (the main menu is completely off screen)
I'm guessing this is a mix of the forced fullscreen and the fact that my resolution is higher than 1080p.
Also the controller absolutely didn't work in game, even if I could use it in the menus :(
The gameplay was fine, but sometimes I feel like the level generated really hard obstacles, mainly the one where you get 3 or 4 "ice" blocks before a column of 3 red blocks

Pretty cool idea with some impressive visuals. The songs you made were nice, and fit the game really well. I could see this being pretty addictive with a few tweaks.
A few things:
- Took me a few seconds to figure out how to start the game. Having the control scheme visible somewhere would be helpful.
- The bright white flashing when picking up coins could be toned down. Made me consider avoiding them instead of picking them up.
- The instant game over when hitting a red block is a little frustrating. Would be cool to have a skill meter that goes up when you make a good jump, and goes down when you miss. Miss too many times and its game over. Just a thought.
Hopefully this feels like constructive criticism. I do think it's really cool overall, just a few things kept me from playing longer.

Thank you. thats a perfectly valid and constructive criticism. I appreciate it very very much.
The insta death and flash thing is definitely something i heard from others, so i will make a new version outside the jam with that in mind.
Good and bad jumps a kinda hard to judge... you jump automatically anyway ;)

Some of the best visual effects I've seen from Game Maker. How did you do the crazy color changing thing? The cool diagonal background grid effect that lights up in the background? Dang, so good.

Not gonna lie there, its a shader from an asset from the marketplace. Obviously i had to fiddle with it a bit, but the praise goes to Coty who did this https://marketplace.yoyogames.com/assets/674/rainbow-future

Pretty game, and great music choices, but the white flashes from picking up coins is a bit hard on the eyes. Tone down the flashes and I'll add keyboard controls to my menu :P
