WARNING: THE WINDOWS TAB IS ONLY THE PROJECT. I MADE THE HORRIBLE MISTAKE TO PUT THE PROJECT FILE IN THERE BUT YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THE PROJECT AND PLAY IT ANYWAY. (IF YOU HAVE GAMEMAKER)
My game Karma is a collection of six minigames where you shall get as much karma as you can. You start as a mosquito but can unlock more games by gaining more karma.
There is six diffrent minigames in this game. Only read this if you get stuck somewhere
- mosquito (0-499 karma):
In this game, you play as a mosquito, trying to collect as many karma orbs as you can. But each time you press UP (wing flip), you become hungrier. After ten wing flips, you die. If you press ENTER, your food bar restores but pressing enter also sacrifices 20 karma.
Karma: collect karma orb = +1 karma suck blood = sacrifice 20 karma (you have to discover this by yourself.)
2.wolf (251-849 karma):
In this game, you run forwad and collect karma orbs. You also have to avoid pits and eat squirrels in order to survive.
Karma: collect karma orb = +2 karma Kill squirrel = sacrifice 30 karma (you have to discover this by yourself too.)
3.squirrel (500-1199 karma):
In this game, you jump up in a tree and collect karma orbs. Refill your hunger by stealing nuts. You if you fall below the screen, you die. It's really hard to survive but the karma orbs is worth 10 karma each and sometimes, it's better to jump of the tree to sacrifice some karma.
karma: collect karma orb = +10 karma steal nuts =sacrifice 10 karma (of course you have to discover this by yourself.)
4.pidgeon (850-1699 karma):
You keep your height by fly pressing UP multiple times. fly through obsticles and meet babyYou press ENTER to drop fruit and DOWN to poo. Give your
karma: poo on bird = -10 karma give bird apple = +10 karma drop apple wrong -5 karma You have to discover all of this by yourself!
5.begger (1200-2199 karma):
The food bar is back again. This time, you catch coins with you hat and use them to buy food and the rest of the coins can you sacrifice to gain karma. If you never sacrifice, you will never get more karma.
sacrifice = +coins*5 karma
6.army (1700-2199 karma):
Now, in the last challange you are controlling a brave army moving straight forward right through one of three danger zones. you control which zone they go to. Some troops need to be sacrificed but there is a reward afterwards. it this confuses you, here is what every zone and reward does:
Zones:
Dragon kills 8-10 troops
Lava kills 6 -8 troops
Desert kills 4-6 troops
Water kills 2-4 troops
Rewards:
Kids = sacrifice 30 karma
Burning house = +30 karma
4 troops = +4 troops
8 troops = +8 troops

I really liked the idea of climbing up the reincarnation ladder. The minigames were pretty fun, but unbalanced. The squirrel game for instance was one of the hardest with the smallest payoff. Graphics were bad, but in a charming way. It added to the silliness. The music started driving me mad after a while, though.
Overall, surprisingly fun game! Seeing what stage came next kept me engaged. Nice job!

I really like this one, very cool concept. The music was driving me mad though, but I liked the variation for the army and the angel.
The biggest problem is the balance between games I think. The squirrel once is very hard and most of the time if you jump to get karma you die. Some are going way too fast too quickly, and for the army the GUI is hiding precious information that you need to make a choise.
But it was very fun overall.

The idea of connecting karma to sacrifice was pretty clever, the execution not so much.
I don't know if this is just a problem on my end, but the game started as a black screen, and even when I pressed alt+enter to minimize it, not all the UI was on screen, making all the minigames a lot harder.
I still managed to get to the end tho, and overall there were more fun minigames than bad ones, so even if executed badly this is still a good game.

Very interesting concept for a game. It's also quite impressive how you managed to implement so many different gameplay styles. I think you could have played up the karmic balance aspect a bit more though. A lot of the time it's easier just die and restart instead of worrying about losing karma to keep yourself alive.
The visuals are music aren't amazing, but I did like how the army stage has slightly different music. I would have liked each stage to do something similar.

The reason that it's often better to die is because the theme if sacrifice. You sacrifice your life for more karma and sometimes it' hard to avoid bad deeds (like the wolf and the army). It's also a challenge to notice when you're losing karma. My dad suck blood in the mosquito section until every karma was taken. Maybe you're a too good gamer to see the hard parts of my game :P Also, if you didn't know it: the game goes faster and faster in every level exept the mosquito if you are surviving. But I can understand that you don't like the gameplay to die and restart over and over. Thanks for the feedback. It was similar to the others but it's much more than a point on the graphics.

It's really nice to have new games each time! I wish they looked a bit better though and that they each would have their own music. It was nice to see that the army had their version of the music! Just that made it feel different. Changing the instruments is enough. :)

Yeah, you're right. I have four songs already (calm, menu, game and army) but it would be better if I varied the music more. I did all music exept the calm one in garageband and in the same 48 hours as the game so there is not much variation in any of them.

Interesting concept! I included it in my GM48: Sacrifice compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/MxThB7fKjVE

YAY XD! Im on youtube on a channel with over 4k subs! That was not what I was expecting. I feel so famous now. You was really nice in the video and understood the game better than my testers (my dad and my uncle at 01 AM). Your video warms the GM(48) half of my heart.

Your game is very cool and the experience of living the different lives of animals and humans is really neat.
As feedback, you could have more music on your game, for each stage, and also work a little more at the art of your game. If art is not your forte, you can also borrow a hand of a talented friend, you two could have fun together (I am the artist of my team and I really liked to help them with drawings this jam).
Congratulations for the vivid game!

Good idea! I have a really good friend who likes sprite arting. We work together on a bigger project called DELTA. I shall ask him to cooperate if I shall participate again :D About the music: I got a TON of self-made songs (skeleTON). But I prefer using them to DELTA.
Thanks for the feedback.

That was one of the longest ones I've played yet from this jam. I felt accomplished when it was over too. The only thing I have a problem with was the song....had to turn the volume down around hat catching. If the music matched the karmic level that would be cool

Thank you so much for the feedback. It feels so good that someone played and finished my game without me describing everything. Yeah, the song is very repetitititive. I made it in the same 48 hour so it is'nt so much variation in it.

Fun idea, and the minigames made things fresh at each milestone. The art was little choppy and the physics during a few of the minigames was rough, but I enjoyed the game.

Thanks for playing, enjoying, probably finishing and commenting my game. This is the first game I have summited online so I'm very glad to see that people actually is playing it, even if it got some bugs and semi impressive arts.
