Too many games have core elements that exist solely to help you. It could potentially be much more interesting to make a game based around a mechanic or object that helps you progress but is also dangerous to you in some way.
The community finds the theme for the 26th gm(48) through two rounds:
- The first round, which runs from 7th April to 14th April, you can suggest up to 3 themes as well as vote for any theme.
- The second round, which runs from 14th April to 21st April, you can't suggest any themes, and you can only vote for the 10 themes selected from the 7 best themes & 3 most controversial of the first round.
To help organize the rounds and encourage discussion, there will be a stickied post on /r/GameMaker for each of the rounds. The theme for the 26th gm(48) will be announced on this page, the home page, /r/GameMaker and Twitter (via @tehwave ) when the game jam starts.
