Left and Right Arrows - Change Option
'z' or Enter - Select Option
Select various options (such as 'Feed') to advance time and score points by creating new organisms. Options have in-game descriptions.
The death of any category of organism (Plant, Herbivore, Carnivore or Scavenger) will cause the Ecosystem to collapse.
Simple - The basic game with one of each category of organism.
Evolve - The timer counts down until it is time to evolve! This adds additional complexity, but is not feature-complete :(

Reminded me a lot of Conway's Game of Life. Seems like the overall objective was to keep the brontosaurus alive. I wish I got a fresh set of cards after every turn, as I felt that I kept avoiding the "feed" cards for tyrannosaurus.

Neat graphics! I included it in my GM48: Countdown compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/XYfIcuyIYDU

YOO this is an amazing concept!!
I loved it, too bad the evolve thing is not complete because this is really really interesting! The music was very good too!
I'm not sure what to say, maybe the distribution of the cards could be worked a little. Right now it seems to be completely random? Or at least there's a chance each card gets replaced? I think it would be better to have cards stay until you play them (like, you get many red feed, at one point you're forced to let them eat the few herbivorous you have).
Maybe some mechanics of rerolling, since it's random (I doubt you made any algorithm to determine what card should be spawned?).
Oh and maybe avoid spawning "breed" when the grid is full of living species, since it's basically a free turn.
This is a really promising concept!

Thanks for your feedback! Glad you had fun with it :)
The cards are currently equally weighted (mostly because I didn't have time to playtest very much). I will definitely make a more complex algorithm if I do a post-jam version.
All copies of a card disappear if you play one of them (but that should be the only mysteriously disappearing card), but this probably wasn't clear because so much happens when you play a card.

Interesting concept! A tutorial would have been nice, it's confusing at first. Also, sometimes it's frustrating (especially in evolve mode) cause you gotta wait such a long time to have the right option. I almost lost because I never was able to feed the diplodocus. The game lacks juice, some kind of animation when animals feed and things like these.
The game is simple, but cool!

Interesting game! It definitely would have been easier to wrap my head around the mechanics with more of a tutorial, but I got it after a few minutes of gameplay anyway. I think this is the first game I've seen so far where the "countdown" wasn't a timer or a vampire, so good job on the originality!
One thing I think could improve this game would be simple animations for when tiles change (like an animal dying) so it's easier to see what's happening. It would also be cool if you could change the size of the board.
Overall a really cool entry, good job!

Alright! Nice concept! It's not a kind of game you see often. Reminds me of all, very old, DOS games.
I liked it.
What I would do is more of a straight learning path, some kind of tutorial, as the gameplay is somewhat complex (or, at least, different) from what you'd expect.
It plays like an impossible card game. I like it. It's a definitive 10 on originality!
Nice work!

This type of game just isn't for me, i can't keep track of this many variables in my head. A super interesting concept, a game that i'll share with some people who would be into something like this. I got 43 days on the simple mode, but evolve mode went way past what i could do.

Thanks for your feedback and for sharing!
I realised too late into development that having the same colour on different things in evolve mode was really confusing. If I do a post-jam version I will definitely try to make it more manageable :)
