Armageddon approaches! Score as many points as you can before your inevitable doom. The environment grows more evil as your time counts down...

  • 4 weapons
  • Bunnies
  • Trees and flowers
  • A tutorial
  • Did I mention bunnies?
  • Some of them are incredibly muscular

Proceed through hostile territory and fend off your ever strengthening foes!

EDIT: Hey! So as you're probably aware if you've already played the game there are quite a few bugs (crashes on death, no walls on final level, etc.) If you'd like to play a (largely) bug-free version, click here to download it.

I do ask that for the purposes of reviewing that you play the original 48 hour version. If and when you get frustrated with it, I urge you to try the bug-fixed version!

i really dig the graphical style of this, a lot. that aside, the shooting is solid - level design could be better :p

Cool game! The core gameplay of moving and shooting works pretty well, with multiple weapon and enemy types helping to keep things interesting. However, the really neat element is the way the game changes over time and things get more intense. I really enjoyed the shifts as previously mundane object started turning hostile.

The presentation is overall well done too. The basic pixel sort of style looks and everything is animated well. The use of outlines is a bit inconsistent though. Sound effects are good and the gun sound effects are appropriately punchy. The music is also great, especially with how changes over time.

There were some technical issues though. The HUD elements for me were restricted to an area near the top left of the screen. The same happened for the red filter that came over the screen in later stages. As other people have mentioned there is also an error popup when you die.

Pretty nice punch and feeling! It feels fun to kill stuff and I love how the atmosphere changes at some point, with FLOWERS shooting at you!

But the knockback of an enemy got me stuck on the wall :( Also, either have more bullets, more powerful bullets are faster reload time.

Interesting idea, but to be honest not the most fun to play, with all the stuck-in-wall bugs, slow reload-times etc.

I was having fun with it, but i got stuck in a wall and died and then the game crashed.

Good game though. I realized much too late that you're not supposed to kill the bunnies until they start attacking you.

Neat and challenging game! I included it in my GM48: Countdown compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/FLG_K_tPT2c

Neat twist in this SHMUP. Can't believe you had to make us kill the bunnies as time went down (afterwards, I was suspicious of ANYTHING attacking me). Very great job with this.

I would suggest allowing guns to be atuo-reloaded upon depletion of a clip, and when I lost, there was an actual GMS2 error pop-up.

    Great job with this game.

Thanks for the feedback, and glad you enjoyed the game!

I thought about adding auto-reload while I was making the game, but I didn't really budget the time to do it. Something for the future!

And of course, the crash on death is definitely a feature of the game ;)

Oh damn, you have to kill the bunnies :(. Great game, I didn't play the less bugged version, felt that it would be kinda unfair. But still, I enjoyed it very much.

      Thanks for reviewing!

Totally understand not playing the less bugged version. I put it there so that those who were frustrated with the original jam version could have a more fun experience (and not have it crash every time they play it, which is definitely a feature not a bug).

      Sorry about the bunnies :(

Loved it. At first I shot the bunnies for some reason. I then realized I wasn't supposed to shoot them.

    • Reloading time: way too long!
    • Art style: Loved it.
    • I would change the font as it's too plain for such a great game.
    • Use of the theme: amazing! Good concept, things becoming hostile as the game progresses. Good twist on classical level design / learning path.
    • The trees coming to life was the plot twist of the century.

The thing that stays with me for this one is the fact that I played it for a long time with no strings attached. I'm playing most games for a couple of minutes before I know what I think about them, in order to have time to give feedback to more people, but this one I played a lot. I got engaged.

Oh, btw. When I died I received a bug:

FATAL ERROR: action number 1 of Draw Event for object obj_death:

DoAdd :: Execution Error at gml_Object_obj_death_Draw_64

stack frame is gml_Object_obj_death_Draw_64 (line -1)

    Good entry!

    Reviewed your game on stream!

Alright, I’m going to keep this one short, since I know I really don’t enjoy reading long, sappy, drawn-out postmortems.

Needless to say, the 27th GM48 chewed me up and spit me out.

I’m sure this was the case for many of my fellow competitors, but for myself in particular, the last 2 hours were absolute panic for me; after all, I hadn’t even created a .gmx before day 1 ended (jam started at 8PM in my timezone). I had been juggling with ideas for quite some time, and I didn’t even have a playable product until 12PM the next day.

This is why you're probably going to find a considerable number of bugs in Armageddon.

Do I love this game? Not really. Do I expect to win? Absolutely not. This is my first 48 hour jam, so I had relatively low expectations going into this.

I've done one other game jam before, the 40th Ludum Dare, and I walked away after the submission period feeling really good. This one left me feeling a little sour in my stomach. Maybe it's just the 48 hour nature of it? Anyway, I just wasn't really happy with what I produced.

So, in the end, despite it all, I hope something in this game makes you smile or laugh. Whether it’s the massive muscular pink bunnies, the fire-ball shooting sunflowers, or that obscure bug I didn’t know about (definitely a feature), I hope you at least have a little fun.

Tl;dr - My game is unsatisfactory, I hope you have a little fun with it even if for only like a minute
