You have to brew bear. The ingredients are at your disposal for brewing. However there is a fly that will bother you. You will only have one shot to beat it with a flip flop. And be careful, as the fly is the only danger here (yes, beer is not a danger), it is quite hard to kill it. But, die and retry, you will get it.

Instructions for brewing are written in the middle left of the screen. Follow them carefully and you will succeed.

I wanted to make a game in order to teach how to brew beer, but I did not want to make it to easy. You have to think a little bit, so you can really learn how to brew instead of doing thing without thinking.

Brewing is a bit more complex than this game, but I think it can gives you the main idea.

SPOIL (don't read this if you did not have try the game yet) : If the fly is too hard to kill, here is a tip. The fly always go toward the beer at a certain (random) moment. Try to handle the flip flop between the beer and the fly and at a certain moment, it will move straight forward beer, just under your flip flop. Then HIT. But do not kill the fly on a tank or you will lose.

I had 2 friends at home (who do not know anything about video games ) during the game jam and we tried to think of a game together. I do not know why we thought of a brewing beer simulator but anyway... One friend makes the drawing on paper (then I pictured them and add it to the game with a bit of photoshop) and the other one makes the music on piano (Debussy). I think that we really had an original way of making a game with game maker studio.

Really interesting concept! I included it in my compilation video series of all of the games from the GM48, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/kfb6IM-P_cA

Awesome idea, and there's potential in it, so I'd love to see a full-fledged Brewing Beer Simulator from you!

It's a nice idea but as you said it yourself, after killing the bug it's all about following instructions and making beer, so the theme felt kinda forced into it Also, can you "lose" in any other way than letting the bug mess up with the beer? I tried to add the wrong ingredients and stuff but it just didn't let me
I really liked the piano song :)

Thanks for the feedback. I did not want to make the game too hard. If it makes you lose when you put wrong ingredients I do not think players will want to try again and again until they win. As the game is not really fun, I prefered making it less "die and retry" so anybody can finish it just by killing that bug and following instructions. It is a friend that play piano quite well :P

Hahaha this was actually really clever, didn't think I'd enjoy this game as much as I ended up doing, the bug was probably a little more frustrating than it should've been, but other than that I liked the experience, definitely a better game than it seems.

Thank you very much ! The fly is quite hard to beat but it is the only thing that can make you lose. That is why this fly is frustrating. I think it is not to hard to beat it, even if you are playing with a pad. I am happy that you enjoyed it :)

At first, didn't figure out the instructions on the right were supposed to be taken currently. Like, I thought it was a forward step. Prehaps it would have been nicer to see each steps differently; right there, there are tons of information on the screen. (like, you could make a camera to focus on one step and make it move as you switch the brew's place)

I like how the fly is just here once. Like, you kill it, bam, it's dead and no more flies. It gives more meaning to the theme!

...however though, it also makes it less... game-y. I would have like a greater level of interactivity; mostly felt like following a recipe and then "oh let's throw a fly in since it's supposed to be a game and that the theme is one shot" (I'm not saying it is, just that it felt kinda like that)

    It was interesting though!

Thanks for the feedback! Moving the camera is a great idea, I should have done it...

I made a beer maker simulator in order to respond to the description of the theme, like at the end of the game you have a single ressource (beer) that makes you win. I added the fly in order to respond at the first thing that the one shot theme means to me. This game is kind of a respond to the two meaning of the theme for me.

At first I wanted to punish the gamer for each mistakes but the game may have become unplayable. So, it is like an easy simulator.

I think it was right to add a fly. Even if the theme was One shot, it had a this text too:

A game where you only have a single resource of something at any given time that is required to win. Make each shot count!

Anyways, your game was fun and funny but a bit too simple to get high votes.

Thanks you very much for the feedback !

At first, I wanted to make the game harder by punishing the player if he does mistakes. It would have made the game way more difficult. So I did not.

It is quite hard to make a not too difficult game, and I really wanted that players finished brewing instead of giving up because it is too hard.

Anyway some people think the game is too hard with that fast fly...

Love that you decided beer is what you were doing and that it is accurate to how beer-making actually works. Love the flip-flop mechanic as well, its sound, and even the breaking animation.

My qualms were that there was only one bug and the bug was really fast. Having a random bug come in every so often, and multiple hits with the flip-flop, would have been better I think. Your theme would still be one shot; as in you have one shot to brew the beer without the bug spoiling it.

Also, wasn't immediately apparent that the directions were on the right. Once I realized what they were, I followed right along, but might consider switching them to a more prominent location, such as with the ingredients, or making them stand out some way.

    Otherwise, great job!

Thank you very much for that feedback. Lot of people told me that the instructions are hard to find on the right of the screen and too discreet. It was one of the last feature I added in the game, so I couldn't found (and think of) a better place. I was not shure about the one shot theme with the beer, that is why I added a fly and only one (really hard) shot to get it. The game would be more fun with little more flyies (and slower flyies) I guess.
