EDIT: I also entered this game into the GMTK game jam, which had the theme of "Dual purpose". Ended up working really nice with the gm48 theme.
FEATURES:
Power up your gun using your own health to do stronger attacks. Be careful though! If your health gets too low, a single hit from an enemy will end you. Use your melee attack to speed up your health regeneration. Melee attacks make enemies angry, causing them to spew more bullets! Use over 15 different upgrades to overcome the challenges ahead!
TIPS FOR PLAY:
-
Charging your weapon will create a stronger bullet. However this drains your health. If you have 10 hitpoints and charge your weapon to the max, you will receive a small buff to your recharge rate if your bullet hits an enemy. Additionally, you can gain health back by using your melee attack.
-
Getting certain upgrades will make your weapon pretty powerful without charging it up. This however, usually comes at a cost to your health.
-
If you get hit when your health is below half of your max health, you'll die unless you have a certain upgrade.
CONTROLS and TECHNICAL INFO: (sorry i didn't have time for a tutorial)
WASD = movement
Mouse Button Left = main gun
Mouse Button Right = melee
Mouse = aim
R = restart
So I realize now that some things are kinda unclear. You start in the store, and head through the door above you to begin a level. Clear enemies and head back to the shop for more upgrades. The game loops and gets harder and harder, although I ran out of time to test that portion of the game out, so that aspect might be quite unbalanced.
EDIT: sigh As I feared, looping is super unbalanced.
EDIT: If the game runs really slow for you, go into the options.ini file in the zip folder, and change AlternateSyncMethod to equal 1. Sorry!
EDIT: If you find yourself in a room and cant get out, its because there are enemies stuck in the wall. Pooptastic! They usually are still visible ( barely) so you can still hit them but they cant hurt you! Pro tip.....? Yes pro tip :D

The art and music of this game are pretty cool, as the gameplay was engaging. Getting upgrades and fighting enemies is really fun. Great job!

I'm a simple man, I see infinitely stackable power ups and infinitely loopable game, and I give it straight 10s.
Ok, I didn't actually give you all 10s, but man, I loved this game, I was really surprised and happy to see I could continue after beating the boss, I reached loop 3 before getting bored and killing myself.
So, the main mechanic is a pretty clever take on the whole "hp is ammo" that a lot of people used, I think I probably liked this one over most of them, the art is nice but nothing too fancy, same as the audio. What I think this game really excels on is gameplay and juice, it is so juicy and fun in fact that it plays like a vlambeer game, and that's probably the best compliment I can give to a jam game.

Dang.... That's the sweetest comment ever! Gives me the feels...Thank you for playing, and good job on getting to loop three! I hope to finish this up at some point with more upgrades and enemies. Better loops and such.
Thank you again for playing!

Pretty nice, esp. the different power ups, it's cool to have them in a jam game. But ennemies have too much life, and shooting even small bullet drains the player's life too much. It basically means either you're always at 1 health, or you're only using melee attacks.
Also, I guess you should disclose it was also an entry in another jam on the description page, even though it's in the name of the exe.

Thank you for playing! I've watched a couple people play the game so far, and all I can think is "why oh why did I give the enemies so much health?!" haha. Could've been a much better experience if i had given them less health.
I hadnt thought about letting people know i entered this into another game. Good call.
Thank you very much!

Nice game! I liked the charge up mechanic as well as the trade off of ranged attacks versus melee attacks. However, it seemed pointless at times to even use the gun. The powerups were a nice touch, considering you had to sacrifice your max hp for very useful powerups. Just wish there was a better balance other than running backwards and meleeing sometimes.
Nice work!

Thank you very much for playing! The balance in this is terrible. It worked perfectly in my head haha! I hope to go back to the drawing board with this some day :)
Thanks again!

I found the robot's character to be super interesting looking! I included it in my GM48: Sacrifice compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/GLJFbs0fnfE

Woo thanks for playing! It's always a learning experience to watch someone else play my game. I see all the areas I can improve haha. Your doing an awesome service for game jams by the way! Keep it up!

The bullet attack feels completely useless. When I dicovered that you could melee I.. basically stopped using the bullet. Enemies are so full of life that it takes forever to kill them without the melee...
Also in case you didn't get that bug, you can get stuck once clearing a room . I beliee I cleared the third room but then i can't move anywhere else and there are no more enmies to shoot...

Thanks for playing! Yeah its pretty easy to just use the melee. You can charge up the bullet to take almost full health from the enemies. The melee attack was supposed to be more risky to use, for example enemies shoot a lot of bullets when they are hit with the melee attack. At least they were supposed to haha.
Sometimes enemies get stuck in the wall. I think you see just a sliver of them and then you can hit them and move on.
Thanks again for playing!

Cool game. Sacrificing health to shoot and using melee attacks to regain it is an interesting concept, though it sometime seems easier to just melee stuff and and not bother losing health. I only made it to round 7.
The upgrades are probably my favourite part about the game. It's neat trying out different combinations and adds a nice element of "sacrifice" with the ones that make you pay life. However, they could be explained a little better and you have to get a bit too close to read what they do (you can accidentally get one you didn't want).
The music is pretty nice, but such a mellow track doesn't really feel fitting for an action packed game like this.

Thank you! I think you were one round away from the boss.... or maybe at the boss. I cant remember. Your right though, its almost easier to just melee enemies. So at the last couple minutes of the jam i decided to make enemies spew more bullets when you use your melee attack to make it more risky to get your health back, but I stupidly made it random, so its not consistently risky...just sometimes.
Anyways thank you for playing!
