Good start! I included it in my GM48: Colors are Important compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/km3gD5GdGBA

I agree with others that this is too hard. But I sat down for multiple hours to see what the game had to offer. I was surprised at how many levels there were and that you even in the later levels added complexity to the gameplay by introducing the white guys. When I got to level ten, it became too much for me and I gave up :( I doubt that anyone will get to the end.

Anyways, even if you die a lot in this game, every death feels fair and I always want to try again. The controls could be better though. Switching between colors feels like playing a fighting game where the controls change every time you press a button. Okay, not really, but it takes a lot of time to master it.

    • One small little detail: The book switches between the colors: RYB while the cursor shows MYC.
    • Another small detail: The wizard's left arm is rotated a little bit. It seems like you wanted to animate it but didn't have time.
    • One more detail: You can't see the outlines of the character because the background is the same color.

This was incredibly difficult. I think the problem was rotating between colours. Had each key on the keyboard been assigned to one of the 4 colours, this would have felt much better and easier to play. It is rather punishing as it is, with tricky timing based mechanics. It could be a really nice game if the curve wasn't so steep. Introduce things a bit more slowly and set the colours to static on a key, even if it's an optional control scheme. The underlying idea is really nice, it just needs a bit of balancing.

Wow this was very hard, I only got past level 2 because every baddy was yellow, then I got level 3 and kinda got a flow going which felt really nice I must say, but the very last blue B____ard got me!

So my feedback: I like how you have a primary and secondary fire, I knew when this comp was announced that they'd be a lot of "shoot enemies of the same color bullet" but you've added a nice twist with the secondary fire, I think that's cool.

I found switching the weapons really frustrating, not really being confident on what is next, I found myself forgetting what's next on Q or E, it doesn't cycle all 3 colors if you was to press Q 3 times, this caught me of guard a bit. I'd change that to cycle 3 colors but this is only my preference.

I'd have liked an easier introduction into the game, rather than level 2 thrown in the deep end, I think it'd give me time to learn the color cycle better.

I like how you have secondary color enemies and knowing what colors have certain primary colors in, I've done something similar with my own game, so it's nice someone else tried to hit on mixing colors.

I think this game is one that you can't really judge from a quick play through, it needs more time to get the controls down and I think it could be satisfying when you get past the levels, I did fist pump getting to level 3 haha.

What I think you've done great is have the cursor show the colors, I know that sounds contradicting to my "cycle issue" but I do like it.

Yep, it's hard. I would have really liked to see more in game about the controls and how the mechanics work. Level 1 is easy, but the difficulty ramp is insane (or I'm just bad). I like the art though, and it has good atmosphere.

Post-mortem

There doesn't seem to be anything here.
