The King Hast Summoned Thee

You have been summoned for a brave quest to find the Fountain of Youth at the bottom of the King's dungeon. Will you save the king from an untimely death, or will you shatter his dreams of immortality? Watch out for bats, skeletons that look and behave like bats, zombies that look and behave like bats, bats of various sizes, and other enemies that may appear to be bats at first glance!

Can you get all the "endings"? (a lot of them are just ways to die LOL)

This was my first game jam, so I obviously didn't have enough time to do everything I wanted. Major sacrifices were mostly in level design and difficulty balance. Hopefully it's the right difficulty for most people to enjoy it :^) Still, I'm happy with how it turned out!

    • Not a fan of the swarm of bats. They don't let you breath much and constantly slow you down. I found myself annoyed needing to stop progressing just to make sure I get rid of them.
    • Also, they're not synced to you (obviously) so when more than 1 attack you at the same time, they may hit you while you are still waiting for your sword to cooldown before using it so you tend to take a free hit :s

That said, the game feels ssooo good! It feels nice to see the knight move and slashing with the sword feels smooth and very, very good!

Funny, well made game! I included it in my GM48: Countdown compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/5_pXg7wyEyc

Well, this is a very solid game, really fun to play even if simple.

I like the fact that the sword hitbox is really generous, as well as health placement. Jam games tend to be too difficult and frustrating, so this is a nice change of pace.

Of course it could be more diverse, but you make up for it with the humor in game (and in your description).

Really nice game! The core concept is simple but effective and it's a lot of fun to play. There's some nice juice with the sword slashes so fighting enemies and breaking boxes feels great. The movement feels a bit slow but it's still pretty good.

The presentation is also solid all round. The graphics are nice - I particularly like the main character's animations. The music is great too and all the sound effects work well.

Nice job! The gameplay feels great, the audio is good (although breaking the crates sound surprisingly squishy and it's a very well-made game!

Got every ending! I really enjoyed the combat in the game, and the story was fun as well. My two biggest gripes would be that the tileset felt kind of lacking and the music got really repetitive after replaying the game a few times. Other than that, it felt like a really solid game. Good job!

    Liked it!

Only thing is: the bats take way too long to die and it ends up becoming more of a chore than a fun engaging and tense fight!

I read your description before playing, and therefore went in expecting something that was a little broken and unfullfilled.

What I got instead was a great little adventure with charming character, fantastic animation, good feel, and a bouncy lovable soundtrack.

You scoped the game very well and executed expertly on it, well done!

I was saddened I couldn't find the 5/5 ending, but this was a very immersive game with the short time it had (I killed the king in the first round without even knowing that I could do that).

I could say that improving the whole jumping controls would make this a bit better.

Nonetheless, this is a very noteworthy submission which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Enjoyable as F*ck !!! :D I love it. The animations of the character are wonderful. The sounds and camera shakes makes your hit feel really nice and powerful. The game is maybe a bit easy but the 5 possible endings makes it replayable (I've only found 4/5) The tiles of your levels could have been more detailed with a complete tileset instead of only one block. You've done it alone and it's your first jam so it's an awesome result ! Congratulations

This was really fun. Full disclosure, I only got 2 endings, but what I played was neat.

One thing that occurred in my playtime (on the HTML version) that I'm not sure was intentional was the sound began to slow down as the game progressed. This got to be pretty bad. It was also slow to start making sounds at the start. That definitely didn't seem intentional. Not sure what might cause this, but anyway wanted to let you know.

    Great job!

Thanks! I'm glad you at least had a good time with the HTML version, I really shouldn't have put it up because most things don't work as intended on it lol

I didn't get every ending but I enjoyed the game. The level design was great given the time span. I liked where there is a swarm of bats but the savvy player can outrun them. Sometimes the bats felt unfair and not fun to play against. And needless to say i was hoping for a different enemy type.

This is the first game I downloaded that I actually had fun playing
