This is an action packed boxing game were the odds are stacked against you. Luckily your coach has a trick up his sleeve, a little something called Cheat Code. With this power you can beat any boxer in the world to become the greatest. But will you feel truly acomplished or will you fall apart with the guilt knowing it wasn't truely earned.

Fight robots, giants, and even a walmart brand Floyd Mayweather

The controls are explained in the tutorial at the beginning of the game but incase you miss something, here they are:

Left and Right arrow keys to move

Space bar to punch

Down arrow key to duck

Z key to block

Thank you for checking out my game. I was awake for an unreasonable amount of time during this game jam but I hope you enjoyed the result! The sound effects in game were made by recording myself punching stuff and "wooshing" into the microphone. The music was made using Ableton Live 10 and its stock sounds (wish I could've made a better song but hey, 48 hours is not a lot of time). Leave a review and let me know any feedback. Also, if you submitted a game to the 37th jam, I'll be sure to check it out and leave a review for you as well.

Regards,

I really enjoyed this entree, took me by surprise. The comedy, the dialogue, and then also the ability of playing the game without cheat code! Nice work! :)

If I'm honest the theme didn't really resonate with me at first but after a while and some planning I think it worked out in the end. I wanted to add more art work and make the fight scenes flashier but the two story-lines took a lot of time and it just creeped the heck out of my scope for this game. Thank you for leaving a review and thank you for playing!

The sprites are really well-animated, and graphically remind me of Flashback or Another World. Each opponent has really good AI, and each definitely has a learning curve to defeat without using Cheat Code. Clearly a lot of thought and work went into this. Well done!

I haven't seen the artwork for flashback or another world but I guess I have to look into them now haha. The AI took a lot of tuning and I have this habit of making games too hard so I decided to make it easy but not congratulating while hard and satisfying at the same time. I figured not many people would go for the "good ending" so I added the tips in the credits from what I learned while play testing. I guess sometimes playtesting your own game teaches you how to play it even when you blindly set up the AI... Thank you for the review and thank you for playing!

This was really fun. I liked the sprites used in the boxing matches. They were really well animated and looked great. The cutscenes were fun and I liked that they changed depending on if you used Cheat Code or not.

It took a while but I did finally manage to get through the game without Cheat Code and got the good ending. It maybe would've been nice to have a victory screen or something in the good ending but to even have a seperate ending and seperate scenes in general is still really good in this time limit.

The Goliant gave me the most trouble but by the end I was able to corner him and take him down without losing any health. The robot certainly took a while too but I got his timing down a bit quicker than I did with The Goliant.

One issue I did have is that there appears to be no way to quit the game other than to Alt+F4. Not sure if I missed an obvious quit button or something there but generally adding escape to quit is helpful. Also I think maybe The Goliant should've had a straight or something that you couldn't block but had to duck out of the way of. As it stands the duck is rather unnecessary so would've been nice to have it used somewhere in one of the fights.

In a way this is kind of like a side on Punch Out where you have to familiarize yourself with the enemies patterns and learn how to counter them. It was really enjoyable and even though it took a while to beat without Cheat Code I had a lot of fun doing it and felt pretty satisified when I did. Great work.

Thanks for the feedback Jackaroo, I wanted to add a flashier victory screen or some sort of reward but it was barely out of my scope, so instead you just get a happy boxer and a happy coach haha. As far as the duck mechanic, when I was setting up the gameplay and play testing I was using the duck quite a lot and it wasn't until after I had finished the first two enemies that you can just stutter step to avoid punches. So it kind of was a wasted mechanic but its nice to duck under punches if you get backed into the corner. If I had more time I would've fine tuned the duck a bit more to be useful.

I'll make sure to add escape to quit as well haha. Thank you for playing and I'm glad you enjoyed!

Fun game, reminds me of punch out. Would have loved to see more fighters but that's a big ask on the time constraint. Tried beating the game without Cheat Code as well but I wasn't able to get the hang of it haha.

Punch out definitely gave me inspiration for this game just from a side view rather than a head on view. I had some ideas for more fighters like a man with really stretchy noodle arms, and a sentient folding chair. It just took too much time to animate and code the enemies in such a way that would be interesting/unique to fight. Maybe for a week long jam haha

Hey that was great! The animation of the main character is very impresive. Very smooth and realistic. Good idea with the tips at the end! Also, a very interesting take on the theme, so well done!

Cool game! I managed to beat Mayweather without cheat code (though it was hard!) on my second try, so the difficulty curve seems good - like it's possible to beat your opponents but just like in regular boxing, it's hard! I didn't even try beating the others without cheat code because it seems really tough though haha

Yeah I tried to tune it to start off pretty easy and ramp up a bit but there was more tuning to be done. I did a game jam a while back where I made a game too difficult so I decided I'll make a game that's difficult but allows you to cheat (even though it makes you sad...)

Great game! The lesson I learned: Don't drink Cheat Code, or you'll be sad AND have a mullet :(
