Summary

Arena Wars presents an interesting tournament concept with multiple teams and a fast-paced gameplay style. However, many players found the instructions confusing and the gameplay lacking depth or complexity. While some enjoyed the reflex challenge and thematic setup, others were frustrated by unclear mechanics and limited engagement. Overall, the game shows promise but could benefit from clearer instructions and additional gameplay features.

Neat game. I included it in my compilation video series of all of the GM48 games, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/UEdGTFt7opw

It's a really cool concept, even if the gameplay is reaaaally limited. Took me a few matches to understand the game though (which is weird since it's really not that complicated :D)

I don't really like these kind of games, and the overcomplicated rules made everything even more frustrating, it seemed like the game had a ton of content, I didn't get that far though.

I ended up in second place by the time the game was over. Those darn Windreaders bet me out!

Anyway, I really like the flavour here with this idea of a big tournament between different teams. It's really neat how there are multiple teams to choose from all with their own logos and line up. If only the actual gameplay was a bit more interesting. It works well enough (once you figure out that you just need to keep pressing attack) and it's a nice test of reflexes but I wish there was more to it. I guess I was just a bit disappointed after the cool setup.

Thanks! Yeah I focused to much on the setup and ran out of time for my bigger gameplay plans. Lesson learned, do the gameplay first then setup 2nd next time. :)

The game is veeeeery confusing. The instructions says to click the attack button, but sometimes it switches, and that "sometimes the green isn't the color" is confusing as well. Is it supposed to be green? red? What does the color do? Why does it keep changing?

It often leads to me losing despite having the striking advantage at first (i was like 8 and they were 0) cause i keep missing and I don't get why. Does it change with time? The instructions aren't very clear or don't explain the things in the right order :/

From another comment: "I could win sometimes but not always" Gotta say, if you're the developper and the game is hard for you, then it will always be harder for the player. The person the most at ease with the difficulty of the game is the dev because he understands everything of it. :p

Hi. I didn't think of that (being hard for me, be hard for others). And yeah the attack is suppose to change. My though was most people will associate green with correct reason I put it and 2 reds (the helpful but harmful-ish aspect). When it's all about the "attack".

I won the season in the last week! It is clearly unfinished but i had fun with this fast game :), maybe the biggest problem is the lack of a bit of complexity, ofcourse with the addition of character classes and special abilities, as you writed in the description, i guess you had not enough time to do it, it would have been a lot more fun, it's a pity.

Thanks! Yeah sadly I didn't realize the jam was going on until Saturday afternoon. I should have prioritized the gameplay over setting up the schedule and standings and teams/wthe character classes. :( Lesson learned (hopefully) for the next jam!

Good concept, took me a while to understand how to play. Even then I have lost every time/game.
