MAKE SURE YOU SKIM THROUGH THIS BEFORE PLAYING! The audio is a big part of the game, so make sure you can hear it! Also, make sure it's not too loud, it starts out with a car crash. Just don't say you weren't warned.

Well, it's something. The GPS is annoying and gets in the way so that's how it incorporates the theme...I mean, does anyone actually like the things? Anyways, the controls aren't explained in the game, although they're pretty simple, you've got buttons on the GPS Which help tell you where to go and turn it on and off, and then you just have WASD movement with SHIFT to run. Anyways, let me explain the dealio.

BY THE WAY! The button to turn the GPS on is in the button corner.

Premise:

  • You're stuck in a time loop. You need to escape it somehow. The enemies in the dungeon with you are blood thirsty, and will hunt you down if nearby. You just need to run away from them / make sure you don't get stuck on the badly coded wall tiles.

  • Levels are randomly generated to a degree, with random key, exit, and start locations.

  • You need to find the key to use the exit to then finally exit the level, along with later on finding a secret item to break the cycle. Once the cycle is broken the game is won.

  • The GPS talks, so that's something.

  • It's silly and a bit spooky.

Enemies :

  • some spirits, I guess.

  • You can hear them if they are nearby, so just make sure to avoid them if they get louder.

  • If you touch them the cycle repeats.

Overall :

  • Watch out with the walls, you WILL get stuck on them. I was too lazy to make it use actually good collision code. Speaking of walls, they're broken. You can walk through a lot of them. That doesn't mean all of them.

  • ENJOY THE GAME!

Neat idea! I included it in my compilation video series of all of the GM48 games, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/3epPRcwgayM

A gave up after a few tries and finding the secret key. It seems like even if you run, you can't escape the spirits.

Well I'm glad someone got it. Yeah I made it a "little" too difficult at that point; it spawns in 20 enemies outside the room, pretty far away but not far enough. Yeah, probably should have lowered that. I guess I was too busy laughing over how silly the audio gets whenever you pick up the secret key; the echo effect made me laugh outloud when I was first messing with it and heard it. Yeah. Thanks for playing though! I'm definitely putting in more time and effort next jam! More balancing! Stuff like that.

The idea seems neat, but unfortunately I didn't enjoy the game very much. The environment is pretty bland, you move slow and it's difficult to impossible to actually avoid the enemy. I know there's a run ability but it seems to be limited in some way and it wasn't very clear what the limits are. Anyway, cool idea that I'm sure could work with a bit more polish and time.

Yeah the running is pretty weird; it's based on an invisible stamina meter that only refills 2 seconds after it runs out. Probably would have been better to show it. The enemies would have been much better if I hadn't screwed up the level generation/wall placement system (since they do have line of sight, it's just screwed up), and subsequently gave up on it. Still, the game mostly became a joke, so I'm happy with it and proud of the flaws. What I'm not happy about is that this game actually runs ok while my last jam entry, which I thought was actually cool, is mysteriously laggy only when run as an executable. Oh well, I had fun making it.

I like the initial idea but the execution seems like it's a bit under. You barely see anything, the enemies seem to always outrun you and the GPS voice isn't very soothing.

EDIT: I think that something being obnoxious in real life shouldn't be in a game. it can be some sort of comic relief, a cynical representation, a parody, rather than being accurate

I don't know about you, but I always remembered GPS' being very obnoxious, so I saw making it unsoothing as necessary. Anyways, yeah the game is a mess; I don't handle time limits that well. But hey! At least it had an icon (or at least it better).

It works, mostly. Neat concept. Maybe add some more lighting effects to make the darkness less monotonous as you go through the loop repeatedly.

Lighting was one of the things that got pushed aside pretty early on. Yeah a shame I know. You know, a big problem I have with these jams is that I always add secret stuff that no one is going to get, which eats up my time. For example, THIS GAME ACTUALLY HAS A SECRET ENDING! Anyways, yeah it's sloppy, but it's something.

I enjoyed the disturbing atmosphere of this game and you had a good idea, altough i have to say walls were a little pain.

Yeah the walls sucked. I had been trying to get a random room generator going; that's why the rooms are all squares. It actually is generating the rooms, I just got lazy/screwed up some time earlier and just made them all the same.

How does this relate to the walls? They're tiles. I got lazy and just made it generate collision objects where they are, but I had problems so I gave up. That pretty much sums up this game; I got tired or lazy. I still love it though.

I really liked the premise, but the execution felt lacking to say the least, the enemies outrun you and you can't do anything about it so the game is mostly rng with their spawn I'm assuming, and the voice from the gps was WAY more annoying than it should've been.

You can run by holding down shift. I grew a bond with the GPS voice, and I still found it annoying, so I can definitely see it being annoying. Yeah. I mostly turned the GPS into a joke, and I got a kick out of it.

I came into this jam thinking, "Ok, what do I do?" I decided to do something based in randomly generated dungeons. However, I hadn't thought of the GPS until I happened to hear one of those assistant apps on TV saying something. This was early on, but once I thought of the GPS and how silly it could be the project basically turned into a hodgepodge of things talking with one of those text-to-voice things from online. I even messed with the audio in Audacity!

Looking at the project now, it's a bit of a bugged out mess. I mean, the wall implementation is awful (yeah I've seen Shawn Spalding's smooth-collision things, I just got lazy), and some of it is based on random chance. I did enjoy throwing in an actual quote on quote, "story", near the waning hours of the jam. However, I'd say the majority of the time was me playing around with text-to-speech.

So, I enjoyed working on this project, although I could have done better. My favorite part was probably near the end when I was working on the story and added the reverberation sound effect to the secret key objective sound...it made me laugh. Anyways, that's it. I just hope the theme is cooler next time.
