I did this for the GM48 42nd 48-hour game jam! The theme was non-violence and I think I nailed that.

I didn't really have enough time to make proper artwork/animations. If I'm happy with how this is recieved; I have lots more ideas to add a proper story to it/update the graphics.

Use shift to sprint, WASD to move and play in fullscreen (alt+enter). If you can't seem to progress, you missed a side-quest. Press any key to progress on any menu.

Known bugs: I ran out of time to finish the up/down animations. I ran out of time to configure the fullscreen/non-fullscreen playablitiy. I ran out of time to add sounds. I ran out of time to add an ending screen.

Enjoy!

I wasn't sure how to progress but the gameplay wasn't bad. The sprint button was a nice touch.

This is great for a first game jam game! it fit the theme nicely :) I had the game crash on me a few times but other than that this was a solid entry. Nice job! :D

Pretty solid for a first jam. Even though I tried my best, I couldn't beat it, the game would crash after some time and I kind of got stuck.
But then again, it's your first time! Looking forward to see what you can do next!

I ended up getting an error (which I will paste at the bottom of this message).

This was a neat concept! Definitely a ways to go with execution, though - the enemy pathfinding meant I could hide in the first room for a while, then circle around them to smoosh them all together. They should maybe avoid moving into each other, with slight AI differences if possible to avoid every single one behaving identically.

There were missing animations, music and SFX as you already know, and the HUD was broadly cut off-screen until I hit Alt+Enter to fullscreen the game.

But this was a nice start, and I think with extra time, you could bring this into a fun lil experience. Nice work!

I think I missed a trick here as I couldn't get past the 3rd barrier, I'll have to go back and give it a go but I like the atmosphere you were going for, I just perhaps needed a little help about where to go and what to do next 😅 good concept and solid start though :)

The third barrier requires you to give a ring to the love mutant in the first room :D I've made a lot of changes to both graphics and functionality since, but obviously can't update it now. Cheers for the feedback :)

It fits the theme nicely and has an interesting premise, so that's a start anyway. I didn't get very far, mainly because the hug blocker apparently gets deactivated in a single frame and then any further collision results in a loss...I mean a happy ever after relationship...so to fix this deactivate the collision check with the frienemy when the hug blocker gets used and set an alarm to reactivate it later (making sure the alarm doesn't set itself every frame or it will never go off!). Also the GUI text was cut off in windowed mode. Additionally, it's good to have Esc end the game or even better, return to the title screen and end the game from there.

      Appreciate the feedback!

The GUI was a known bug in the description but you're right about the hug blocker. Honestly, I ran out of time for most of the tweaking I still needed to do and had to upload it at 2am praying it would work lol. I've since run with the idea and have a pretty big update coming out on itch.io soon including shadows! So I hope your next playthrough is enjoyable. Thanks again!

Hey good job getting a game submited to your first gm48.

the project was pretty rough but it had a strange charm to it.

I tried my best to play it to the end, but the game crashed on me a few times and I had to call it.

Looking forrward to your next project.

First of all, great job on finishing a game for this in 48 hours. You fit the theme perfectly, great job on that!

Most of all, remember the spirit of game jams, it's to get you to work on something, finish it, and show it off to others and you've done all of those things. I'd love to see where this or your other projects go next.

I survived almost 200 seconds, those pesky mutants wouldn't leave me alone lol

Thank you for sharing your game with us!

Quite a few technical problems with this one :(. No sound, no up/down animation, no controls or objectives explained, can't see the ui unless you force fullscreen by alt+enter (maximise button disabled), but then you cant do anything when you die without alt f4ing. Also a big blue block at the bottom of the screen for no discernable reason. The art is kinda cute though.

Well spotted, thanks for the comment! I forgot to also add the description on gm48 as I did with itch.io which explains a few of those things, sorry for not being clearer!

I ran out of time to configure literally all of the things you mentioned, no sound, have to play in full screen, the blue block at the bottom is the sprint bar (I've added the controls to the description now).

Thanks for your feedback anyway! I hope your next play of it is a big more enjoyable.
