At first I wasn't feeling this one, but it turned out okay in the end. It has a little less character than my other work since I was mostly uninspired by the theme but I ultimately had fun!

I hope you enjoy!

I can't even begin to describe your game. Damn, it's really amazing!
This game is incredibly well executed. The focus abiity is an awesome mechanic.
I agree with everyone else about the controls being the only downsize. For me, just being able to jump with the up arrow key would have helped a lot.
When I had to make the second sacrifice, I wished I could just give my sword, but in games (as in life) sometimes you don't get what you want (and that can be a good thing, I ended up beating the boss using only the sword).
The boss at the end was the necessary final touch and although it seemed impossible at first I learned more and more about it's patterns after each try. It had a strong Dark Souls feeling.
It had an even stronger feeling (specially after being called worthless upon dying): Was "Unworthy" by Aleks Kuzmanovic (@MrAmlice) a source of inspiration for you?
Would you mind sharing your project? I'd really like to take a look. Great game, congratulations! Hope you keep working on it

The asthetic of this game is really good, with dynamism on the sound effects, nice "BGM" and sprite work and animations spot on. The game mechanic is awesome, but I find the controls a bit confusing and the psychics could be better. I really liked this game though, you did a nice job!

Really interesting game. I included it in my GM48: Sacrifice compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/Ub8Q0nEDs3I

Like has been mentioned before, the controls are not very keyboard friendly. But i'm sure with time, one could get used to them. The concept was nice and the slashing attack actually felt very nice. Level design was questionable in places, but nothing horrible. Overall not bad at all. Would play more.

Very stylish game. Love the graphics and animation. The sound design was appropriate. The gradual hum when you focus was a nice touch. The atmosphere was very eerie. Good stuff.

Like others have said, the controls are a little wonky. I also found it difficult to hit enemies without walking into them. Maybe if your attacks had push back it would feel better?

Anyway, I really love the presentation and concept for this game. Tighten the controls and maybe add some subtle music and you've got a great game!

Well, for starters I'd like to say that the controls were especially awful for me because my keyboard (compared to the usual keyboard) is qwertz instead of qwerty, as you can guess, the keys z and y are reversed. Either way though, looking at my keyboard now it doesn't seem to be the best placement even if I had it the right way. Well, in any case, it made me give up on the boss cause of the way my fingers are placed. Just a reminder that there are usually three types of keyboards to keep in mind, your usual qwerty, the... other one that I forgot, and mine, less frequent, qwertz.

Other than that, the controls are a bit clumsy and some part are tedious.

Aside that though, the game is very sweet. the way you focus to look at stuff and how the sounds get louder is a pretty nice touch. I liked the narration too. Though the game doesn't feel bad without music, letting you be immersed more, I still think there could have been something, even if slight. Also, the boss spawns on you

The idea behind the game is just great.

Sadly the controls are to review.

plus, the level design has some issue. However this is a game jam, not some Ubisoft game, so go on and polish it! ;D

The controls were probably the worst part about the game, but the levels and ideas behind it really showed how good the overall design was. I liked the idea and execution, but you could've spent some more time on the small things.

Making us choose to give up one of our ability was really good. I also liked the atmosphere a lot.

But man, this was really hard. I just couldn't finish it.

Neat game. I really like the atmosphere and the presentation, especially when using the focus ability. The way the sound gets louder as you focus is a nice touch. The ringing of the bell at the end of each level also looks and sounds very cool.

The gameplay can be a little awkward at times. Some of the jumps seem unnecessarily precise (mainly with the vertical moving platforms) and the sword attack is a bit hard to use. The focus mechanic is neat, however, and all the character's animations feel good.

The strength or stars choice was a cool idea, though it could have been explained better. I didn't understand that I was choosing between the attacks, and ended up getting stuck with close range attack when I would have preferred the long range one.

Overall, the gameplay's mostly solid and the presentation and feel is excellent.

Awesome platformer game... nice idea overall. Shame there was never a (spoiler alert) .. alternative.

I'll come back to play some more of this awesome little game!
