What it would have been if I had the time to finish:
You fight a foreign invasion... from the inside of an alien! You are their assigned protector. Your host is unfortunately sick and takes a special medication. That means you get free pills that may boost your power! But there are side effects, which may or may not include...
nausea
trembling
gastric reflux
stronger infestation
...death of your host
The side effects aren't affecting you, but the alien you try to defend from the inside. You're inside hostile grounds as these effects influence your environment.
(Unfortunately, I was way off in terms of time management. The game is far from done, and doesn't even include the side effects... which is a side effect of me not managing my time correctly)
- Move: arrow keys, AD
- Crouch: down key, S
- Jump: up key, W, K
- Shoot: X, J
(note: the nausea and trembling side effects are implemented in game and can be activated manually. They both trigger at specific intervals that gets shorter as they stack. note that the nausea effect is unfinished and completely messes with the view.)
trembling: space
nausea: control
come back later

The art and sound for this game are great!
I like the premise but, unfortunately, the 48 hour time crunch meant it was unfinished.
I found the number of shots required to defeat enemies and environment to be so numerous that it was a bit frustrating.

Yep, I should have pushed these numbers lowers. I mostly wanted to avoid making the game too easy considering there's just... 2 levels
Old school kind of difficulty for bad games: game difficult to make sure you don't finish it too quick ahaha

Hey kwis, You can really tell that this game is unfinished.
I like the ideas you had going into this, but I think you had more to do then time to do it.
If you are still wanting to make a metroidvania in 48hours, I recommend you get someone to help you or plan out a design doc before the jam starts.
But as far as proof of concept goes this was a fun little game.

I guess the first time is the hardest! I had a really cool map idea planned too, but the game's mechanics weren't as simple as I thought they were. I added mechanics that ended up being unused, and I should have done that a different way
Oh well... thanks for playing!

Really lovely graphics and sounds! I couldn't beat the wall though. I included it in my GM48 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/2x0hqeP3RWA

Ahhhh what a cool soundtrack! Love the art also! Control wise I would have liked a mouse aim so you could shoot in different directions, as sometimes it was tricky to make sure things were on the same plane for shooting, but I understand this is probably an intended portion of the difficulty!

The fact you couldn't aim freely was deliberate! The issue is that the level design and where the spawners are placed makes it too tricky as is to make it feel good, as well as, I guess, the hitboxes. I intended for the little critters to make it easier for you to kill them while crouching or from a distances, but the slopes and others things kinda worked against that
So I meant it to make the challenge more interesting, yeah, but it wasn't done the best way...
Thank you for your feedback!

This is a fun start to a game and I feel like there's a lot more going on here that I don't necessarily understand - quite a few unanswered questions about what I'm meant to do and where I'm meant to go but I get that the time management wasn't on your side on this one. It's a solid foundation and I hope there's more to this as what you've got so far was a lot of fun :)

Fun game, had nice movement and combat, and the screen effects and change in music were cool. a shame you couldent get it done in time but the groundwork is there for a solid title. Nice job :)

I loved this game's artstyle and aesthetic, especially the little touches like your alien host starting to sway with nausea as you progress further and fight the infection. Your character also handles pretty well, and the trajectory on their bullets makes fighting enemies a little more interesting, since you have to use the terrain to your advantage. The use of music to set the mood was also great. My only real complaint stems from the difficulty curve — since you can't shoot up, some of the blocks of alien spawners take a long time to destroy, and you can get overwhelmed pretty easily if an alien spawns from off-screen.

Yeah, I wanted the player to be able to shoot up, considering it'd make interesting to aim as the bullets are affected by gravity! But didn't have the time
I kinda wanted to go the kero blaster way, but my game plays differently, so it doesn't work well...
Also the nausa thing was supposed to be a side effects you could choose, but as it is, it was only left because I implemented it, so it has to be manually triggered: I assume you did that, cause the game doesn't make them appear as you progress!
But it's cool that it happened!
I should have lowered the monsters' HP much lower, so that they don't overwhelm you so fast

Real shame you couldn't finish it in time, the idea was pretty cool, including the side effect one which you also couldn't finish :( I will say though, the art in this game is very nice. The music that plays when you start fighting that horde of aliens too.

Damn :( a lot of potential here, hopefully next time you're able to finish for me it took like 12 tries but you can get there if you don't give up
