Farmers Vs Aliens

Farmers Vs Aliens

Aliens are trying to steal your cows from the cattle and you have to stop them by buying guards and place them in front of the aliens before the time runs out, otherwise they will get stronger and kill you. A simple game looks like Plants vs Zombie and we hope you like it. Graphics are not well done because we didn't have much time.

Expect new update after the jam for personal use !

    • the UI was not obvious at all. It took me a bit to notice where was my money.
    • Show the cost of the farmers!
    • ...and make them cost less. It was hard to have enough to kill aliens
    • also it felt so random to place them. Maybe have a more defined grid and show us what square we're putting them in. A very good example of this is Plants VS Zombies

    Aside that, neat idea!

Good start! I included it in my GM48: Countdown compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)

The cost of the guards should definitely be shown in game, but the money you have also shouldn't be hidden in a corner as small text.

You can also end up in an endless situation is an alien is blocked by the second farmer, who is trying to shoot at it but misses every time (the shot go just below the alien). I actually had to "dig" to get rid of the farmer and let the alien pass through two times because the game wouldn't progress past that.

Also, since the aliens don't do damage, there really not much to do once you have a line of farmer.

Keep it up guys! I really appreciated the title screen giving everyone credit. I am glad you did that FIRST! Nice.

Yes there were a few bugs. Try to head over to the GameMaker forums and post questions on the fixes.

I have to say this type of game is a lot harder than you thought right? You have to include the grid for placement, adding and taking farmers, money, and a slow ramp in difficulty. All-together with timing of attacks and even the type of attacks too.

I say keep working on it. Keep up the good work!

Great game, uniqe idea actually good job guys, but there are some glitchs that could have been fixed, but everyone knows its because of the time. Keep it going !!!

It is a very good idea, but as mentioned before, there are many bugs in the game. I just gradually bought 7 cheapest farmers to different rows and aliens had no chance at all. In wave 10, a big green worm appeared and nothing else happened after then.

Of course, if there was more time to develop the game, it would be much more entertaining, so don´t give up :)

Note to others: first farmer costs 25$, second 50$ and third 100$ (it should be written in the game)

This was an interesting game. I thought my guards were having no effect, but once I figured out what order to purchase them in, it seemed to work out. There seemed to be a weird bug with the giant worm, which I hear is just a tricky trope to pull off, and after that things quieted down. Figured out that you can place multiple defender types on one block, but I didn't get to see if that was super helpful or not. It's a solid concept, and some more content would certainly flesh things out. Great job you curious Stars!

yes, the bugs in the game were result of some developing troubles(wasted time, not knowing how to fix some of the stuff) but we aren't giving up on the idea so you might see us working on a Redux version of the game or some new concept for the next jam thanks for the possitive feedback !
