A quickly coded Asteroid rip-off with hidden buttons. Keeping with the theme when all asteroids are cleared an item drop appears with a chance to give points, take points, give health or take health.
To be honest I am not proud of this, it became a game of "how can I make this worse whilst still be recognisable?". The music to me is the best part of this game.

It's not the worst game ever! <3 I included it in my compilation video series of all of the GM48 games, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/6oxsNSlqcYM

Apart from the installer, it's far from being the worst jam game.
It's actually pretty solid, of course it's very basic, but with a few little tweaks (so not really adding lots of content) it could be fun :
First, autoshoot. That way you choose what's the highest rate of fire (and you can tweak it with upgrades), and we don't destroy our keyboards.
Then, the pickups. They should pop up randomly after destroying big asteroids, to make things more interesting. Like other have said, lowering the health for no reason isn't the best thing. Spawning enemies, modifying the rate of fire or weapons, etc. make for more interesting situations.SubmittedOliver the Torchbearer

Yes. This is the worst game.
>decides to install anyway for some reason
Alright, maybe it's not actually the worst. Asteroids is a classic! Certainly did a great job if it's your first game.
But still, it's an installer, so it's a close call 😜
I found that if you make a macro that constantly spams spacebar, and then just hold down left or right, the game will literally play itself. I got to 2802 points like that lol

Congratulations on finishing a game and first time participating in our game jam. I hope that it proves constructive to your game developer career. 😁

No installers, please. This is a game jam... don't discourage people from playing your game... build it as an executable and put it in a zip.

My dream is a gm48 without installers...
That said:
Ah, brings me back memory of my very first game ever. An asteroid made with Shaun Spalding's tutorial.
Certainly not the worst game out there, by the way. But yeah, can't say much about it, not really following the theme neither. :T

Sorry this is the first Jam I have entered and the first game that I have bothered to complete and I was unaware that people did not like the installer.Yeah it was one of the first tutorials I did as well as HeartBeast's RPG. Definitely inspired, unfortunately due to time constraints and being unable to fix certain bugs the game ended up being very basic.
Still working on finishing what I had planned.A lot of people have stated that they don't see any negatives from the drop and yet I have. Possibly they are just not noticeable as it's only +/-20 for hp or points or re-drop in the room.
Thanks again for your feedback.

The game is better than many of the jam entries. Music is perfect for the atmosphere and is not invasive. I enjoyed playing it despite lacking a bit of variety.
The biggest problem is the installer that will discourage many to download it.
Anyway good job :)

Going into it I knew that the time constraint was going be an issue, didn't realise how much until the last few hours and started panicking. But the experience was great and will be back next GM48.
Will have to make sure not to use the installer in future Jam's.
Thanks again for your feedback.

I was disappointed this wasn't the worst game ever! hehe. Its a great remake of a classic. I agree with what some of the other folks are saying about the random pick ups, but I was pumped when I got the double beam gun thingy. Looks like this is your first entry, and you put the whole thing together by yourself. This accomplishment alone is worth giving credit for. Looking forward to see more entries for next time.

I honestly felt like I had failed and spent the last 20 minutes deciding whether or not to submit it, I feel a lot better after trying every other game. Most people struggled somewhere and it was a great experience.
Definitely going to make sure my attempt at meeting the theme is more noticeable in future Jams.
Thanks for you feedback!

I've played enough dodgy jam games to know that this is definitely not the worst game. In fact, it's a fairly decent Asteroids clone. The graphics aren't super amazing but they do their job well. The sound effects are simple but again they work. The music is very nice, though.
The gameplay works well enough too, though I'm not a fan of the random pickups. The idea is fine, but having the chance of straight up losing health doesn't feel very fair. I think it would be more interesting if the powerups had a chance to spawn enemies or make you move slower or something like that. A penalty the you have a chance to deal with would be better than just taking random damage.
My best score was 198.

Thanks for your feedback!
I agree, the penalty from the drops was rushed as the intended drops kept bugging ( Multiple lasers or loss of).
I had not thought of slowing the player down, I will have to remember that. Several people have stated their scores were pretty low, I just check it again and got 675. Maybe I'm good at my own games. Also this was not with using the cheat "P" which I left in after debugging.
Thanks again for taking the time to try our game and leaving feedback. :)

Props to Hayden for the music!!!!! I'm guessing you exported the game with the installer in order to fulfill your quest for "worst" game but still recognizable. :) I made it to about 120 points before dying and the ?-marks gave me only good stuff...... I'm sorry you were not proud of the game, I know it at least has to feel good to get one finished.

Thanks for your feedback. You were lucky, our tester kept dying from hp loss from the drops. I am now in the process of making the game how it would have been if I had more time :) . Though you are correct just finishing a game was exciting and rewarding. The experience I have gained will hopefully help produce a better game next time.
