INSTRUCTIONS:
Step 1. Choose a character.
Step 2. Put bun in oven.
Step 3. Play.
When you survive a wave of enemies, you get to add another character! Figure out what they do! Where they live! Their hobbies! Etc...
Keep in mind, due to leg shortage, characters cannot move further than their limit, your Movement Square™ will be white on the tiles you can move to.
(You can also click on yourself to stand still)
Controls:
Left click: Choose where to go/Choose ability.
Right click: Rewind to your last action! Bless the time travel gods! Bless them!
You can completely restart the game with O in case you want to.
Other stuff:
Oiled beings, including you, yourself take double damage. Characters get oiled by finishing their turn on an oil tile.
Fire tiles deal minor damage at the end of the turn.
Setting fire to oil tiles results in a very... volatile reaction.
Friendly fire = true; // :-)
*Hint hint* Barrel-man is probably the easiest character to start off with.

Step 4. Take bun out of oven.

Love the graphics! I included it in my GM48 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/gQOVaoF4Jeg

I dont have much experience with turn based games, so this took a bit of getting used to. As time went on, I began to understand what to do. The art was very cool and theres some good strategy in this one. Some more sound would have been nice but I understand the struggle to implement something like that in 48 hours. I can tell the time was well spent on the gameplay.

As someone who has been building a tactical turn based battle system for like, a year now, I applaud you for taking this on in 48 hours, good enemy AI and all!! I'm absolutely dreadful at this game but I love how different each of the party members play. I'm not super clear on the side effects theme- I'm guessing it's the benefits/negatives of creating oil/water on squares?

I really like the fun and silly characters and a turn based elemental fighting game is an interesting take on the theme - I wasn't very good at this one at all and died too quickly to recruit another teammember 😭 but I think with a bit more practice I should get there! I think the issue is that it isn't immediatley clear what I'm meant to be doing, so some kind of prompt to say "now you move, next you attack, you can only move within 2 squares" etc. etc., might have cleared up some of the confusion. And some fighting music would accompany this well. It's a good start and you've got some good foundations here, it just needs a little smoothing out around the edges :)

I really like the art style and the character designs. The gameplay is pretty good too. I don't really get what does this have to do with the theme though. Also shame there is no music or anything :(

This game has a great artstyle, cute characters, and — most importantly — surprisingly deep strategy. For a 2-day game jam game, the level of content is also surprising, with 9 characters who each play meaningfully differently and have unique designs. You're right that the oil can is the easiest character to start with, but I found its synergy with the charcoal to be insanely powerful! My only real qualm is the controls, though they're a minor issue; it might be better to be able to click on any character to move them, instead of them going in a preset order to wherever you click in their range.

So much more depth with the tactics than I was expecting!! The game really took off when there was more than one player to control. It was fun planning out how to utilize the characters together to minimize my characters dying. I kept accidently clicking on the active unit and canceling the movement and I forgot about the right-click rewind. It would have been nice to see the range of attacks when they were highlighted but I'm sure there were limited time constraints. After killing all visible enemies it would take a few turns for the next one to appear, I couldn't tell if that was expected or not but it was a bit of a lull in the combat. The side effects theme could have had a stronger tie in.

This was an interesting tactical game. I like the character design and the unique abilites. I don't really get what it had to do with the theme though.

EDIT: I really like the game. I'm a big fan of strategy games like this. The controls were a little weird at times and it'd be nice if there was a bit more information available. But for a game jam game this was fantastic.

As the guy bellow me also said, i can't quite find where the theme fits in it. But even then the art is nice, and the gameplay is fun. Unfurtunatelly the game keeps crashing on me for some reason :( maybe it's the website version? Anyway, congrats on the Game!

Yeah, the web version turned out to be extremely buggy with frequent crashes, so downloading is the way to play right now.

Good tactical combat game with a very unique theme. I liked the large variety of combat abilities. Was confused at first since it said "you and your buddies" or whatever when it was just one character. Finally beat the first fight and then it made more sense. Good art and sound. Not the greatest tie-in to theme; once again there's effects but not particularly side effects.
