The year is 2020. Out of nowhere, Earth splits into two, spouts a body and legs, and gains sentience. We've been entered into the Planetary Destruction Tournament, an 8-planet tournament where only the winner gets to survive un-obliterated.

Earth is Death On Two Legs. Prove it.

Fun game! Has some really great personality to it. Your last jam entry and this one definitely had a sense of kinship with the whole shooting and planets vibe too. I loved the Queen reference and felt the broadcasts added some really nice flavour. I enjoyed the story and the final boss had a cool change in strategy. It was nail biting to try out-live rather than out shoot. The blackholes I felt added some randomness into the game so it was less skill based and more chill. I didn't think it was a bad thing. Just changed the gameplay a little so you would be more focused on dodging rather than precision aim. What happened to the Earth's legs afterwards? :D

      Thank you very much, Heather!

Honestly I'm not even sure where the planets' legs came from in the first place 😅 Maybe the PDC has a stock of them in its cupboard and took them back after Earth was victorious.

Or maybe Earth just has a robot body lying dormant within its core, lying dormant in case a sequel breaks out!

It was fun game and texts :) But as I had just played before you other game this didn't feel getting on same level ^^" I liked more of the story than the gameplay itself, also sounds were bit irritating (SFX generator maybe?)

    Here is gameplay https://youtu.be/-tcce30kmHI?t=3198

ps. I played second time off-stream to know what happens when you die, nice touch :D

Thank you for playing! Aye, the story was something I had bubbling for years - the gameplay was the best I could do in the time I had left after formulating that and the cutscenes.

Originally I had it in mind that the game would be a fighting game, but I've not made one in 16 years - don't think I'd do well at one in 24 hours xD

Nice! I accidentally clicked out of the ending screen though :( Is it just a reverse of the first screen? I didn't understand the black hole mechanic until the second match, I think because the black holes are... grey.

Love the title, the graphics, the humour, and the story! It has a lot of charm and made me laugh. The planet with only one inhabitant was great, and of course Queen.

EDIT: Haha I just restarted the game to fail on purpose for the easter egg, excellent lore.

I can't say I understood everything, but I enjoyed this a lot. That death easter egg was interesting too :D

Why are planets called stars? Why legs? Is there a point to not shooting? So many questions

Edit: Thank you, that was very helpful 👍🏽

      Thank you for playing 😄

Planets are referred to as stars as the PDC are translating everything you read from their universal language into Earth English, so they are bound to get a word or two slightly wrong in the process. Even Universe Google Translate isn't infallible.

Legs because I really liked the Queen song "Death on Two Legs", a sentiment echoed by the PDC, and honestly, to give Earth arms, I'd have needed to have repositioned the two halves of the planet... or written an official apology to Sri Lanka for it being temporarily engulfed by a robotic limb.

Not shooting does tend to have ill effects in battle in the long run. Unless the opponent is overdosing on a-steroids, anyway. But Clint Eastwood couldn't have won any of his duels if he didn't shoot, so there's that. PDC recommends you do shoot, especially when an enemy planet is shooting back.

Hope that helps! PDC are the greatest! please don't hurt me

      😅

This game made my day, I was overly entertained with the presentation, and little precious gems

Also love the puns and the twist at the end X'D

I like how you always lean more into ideas that are ridiculous than things that are safe and obvious. This game really focuses on creating a fun environment and does it well, the little touches like the alien grammar mistranslations and notes and stuff really add to the experience. I really like the totally necessary side plot of the couple that gets separated by the world split, haha.

I wasn't totally sure about the gravitational effect of the black holes, do they fluctuate in strength? Sometimes it felt like my bullets were being curved very strongly by them, and other times it felt like they wouldn't bend much, even when passing around at the same distance from the center of the black hole.

Thank you very much 😄 Had it been a 3-day jam I'd've given the side plot a little extra, but until then, hugs! xD

They fluctuate in strength a little, yes. Their physics is a little weird, using a mix of distance strength, motion_add and then a static speed change to ensure bullets don't get either stuck or remain in orbit until they time out, and I pretty much just adjusted it and tested it repeatedly until they behaved in a way I thought was favourable (ie. they had a tangible effect but wouldn't make aiming totally impossible).

The game mechanics are the area of the game for sure that could use some TLC if I take this further going forward 😅

Well this just feels like a classic Allison James game :D

Presentation was reeeally nice and I really enjoyed all the funny little details (and I probably missed some too). I really liked the foreshadowing on the final boss.

I feel kind of bad for the 15.5 quintillion dead sentient beings I slaughtered though XD I hope that one lady survived managed to escape...

Gameplay felt a bit mixed for me. I understood what the black hole was doing, but my brain couldn't process where any particular ball was going to go in time to dodge them (maybe I'm getting old, heh). I'm not sure how you'd improve that, except by making the hitbox smaller, but you definitely have enough health to weather a fair few hits, so I guess it's a wash.

The twist ending for the final battle was neat :)

It was short and sweet, but a fun experience!

PS. I uploaded a video of my playthrough

Thank you so much, was enjoyable to see the playthrough!

The only thing you missed was a little bit of "easter egg" context which is shown if you lose a match, and gives the story a little extra background. Won't spoil it 😄

Yeah the black holes definitely aren't the best. Generally it's best to put them between you and the opponent to hit them. Although since I didn't have the knowhow or time to get the AI to calculate their own shots, they're pretty unable to comprehend them as well xD

Absolutely wonderful. The combat is engaging, but I think what really makes the game work is the tournament bracket motif. It really helps sell the scenario, and give the fights some stakes. I also really liked the story with the people on the planet. A+

This game is HILARIOUS! I love it, though I did find that a lot of the enemy planets could be destroyed just by me standing still and firing and I would have loved to have seen more planets, though I love the parody nature of the game, it's a beautifully made, quick experience, nice one! :)

Thank you very much, I always find it hard to work out how much humour to put in without it being a total takeover xD

And yes, did not realise until other people tried it that that is a completely valid tactic that works. 😅

That last boss was epic! 10/10 would save Earth again! After each level, I looked forward to seeing the outcomes of the other matches, and enjoyed the addition of additional black holes as I progressed. I agree with the previous comment regarding the slower projectiles- I found myself holding down the mouse button and just trying to avoid shots, and would have liked some periods of time where I could concentrate more on hitting the opponent. :)

This one was engaging and tons of fun. I found myself wishing that the projectiles would move a little slower so I could line up my shots. Nice!

This game was earth-shatteringly epic, and the bad guys were earth-shatteringly hard, I can not beat it even if my life depends on it. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed your game! Rip the CC's
