Description

Gather up bunnies and throw them into the burning pit. The master of the pit requires the sacrifice of ten bunnies.

The more you carry, the slower you move.

Roaming monsters will attack and eat your bunnies. Run away or get mauled.

Controls: Arrow Keys to move, X to interact. Escape will quit the game.

If you receive a shader error when running, this can be fixed by installing the DirectX9 runtimes: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=35

Ok so the art is phenomenal, but everything else is pretty underwhelming, I'm pretty sure you'd get first place if you teamed up with a good coder, because your game looks incredible, but plays like a prototype made in 5 minutes.

There's a lot of buggy and confusing stuff, from the movement to the sacrificing mechanic itself, the game also lacks polish, because even though the sprites are really good, the animations, particles, screenshake, and juice in general, are not there.

Yeah, I realize it came out a bit rushed. This was my first time participating in a jam, or even finishing something completely playable (or mostly playable) so I've learned a lot.

The idea here is for me to be a good coder one day :)

I'm glad you liked the art. As you've probably guessed I put waaaay too much time into drawing and rushed too much with the gameplay. Things I'll keep in mind for next time.

I appreciate you taking the time to play and leave feedback!

Those poor bunnies!!! I included it in my GM48: Sacrifice compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/WwCrESwX77E

This game is good but needs more rhythm. Maybe some music. And finding 60 bunnies is quite long ! Nice work anyway ! ;)

60!? Woah there overachiever, you just needed ten :P

Seriously, thanks for playing and taking the time to leave feedback. Noted! I need to make some sort of music next time.

And great point about rhythm. I had taken so much time on art that I didn't sit down to play all the way through as much as I should. Definitely something I'll pay more attention to in the future.

Looks good, but there are some things you need to watch out for :

    • there's not much to do, so avoid making the player wait on top of that. The sacrifice "animation" is way too long.
    • the animations do not really fit with the artstyle. It would need to be either more detailed or more abstract (like moving the character sprite like a toy, jumping left and right), here it's a little weird between the two.
    • moving speed is the key mechanic in the game, so it needs to be polished. But the way you did movement is adding vertical and horizontal speed. That means moving in a diagonal is way faster than just moving horizontally or vertically. Basically, with 2 bunnies, you can escape monsters if you move in diagonals.

Hey, thanks for giving my game a shot and leaving feedback for me! I know the animation was lacking and pretty rushed.

The third point is one I hadn't considered. This was a great learning experience and next time I'll be sure to focus on the core gameplay loop before I worry about anything else (like art).

Very nice art style and polish. Sound was a bit lacking, bushes were a nice touch, and bunnies were scarce (good thing, I think). Pretty good concept gameplay-wise, could have done with a bit more meat on its bones. But you did, understandably, only have 48 hours.

The graphics look very nice. I especially like the look of the monsters. The animation is a bit stiff, though. The audio is somewhat limited, but I think that suits the mood you were going for.

However, the gameplay is a little dull. I like the idea of more bunnies forcing you to move slower, but it never really felt worth it to carry more than one at a time. I also thought some of the bunnies were a bit hard to find, which leads to a lot of aimless wandering.

Hey, thanks for playing and for the feedback. I've learned a lot and will take all of it into account in the future.

I see how there isn't really a reason to pick up more than one bunny at a time. This is one I'll need to think about for a while: how to encourage the player to sacrifice speed to carry more?

Nice take on the art! Animation was too rigid though, making it a bit disappointing, although it looks pretty nice!

I think you should have the choice to sacrifice bunnies when carrying them in order to move faster cause once you took 3 you can't get rid of them... (or at least, x did nothing)

I had a bug, i was running away from a big bunny (while carrying 3 bunnies) and when he touched me, we both got stucked and unable to move.

Thanks, I spent a lot of my time working on the aesthetics, which I now feel might have been a mistake. But this was my first time participating in a jam so it was a learning experience.

Yeah, I wanted to have a way to drop bunnies when running from the enemies so they'd be distracted.

I haven't encountered that bug but I'll do some more testing. I'm planning on finishing this eventually into a legit game and not just a prototype. I think it could be fun if I work out some of the design flaws and gameplay issues.

Thanks for playing and sending your feedback!

This game is beautiful and the ambience seems right (reminded me of a more colorful Don't Starve).

As a bunny fan myself and although displeased with your choice of theme for the game, I find the monster bunnies cute, the smaller ones even more, but I ran out of them and could not finish the game. Maybe you could work on a respawn system for them, as more sound effects and a fitting music to complete the game ambience.

    Nice job!

Thanks! I spent most of my time getting the art and controls feeling nice and didn't have time to fully implement other features. I'd planned on having an attack and a way to drop bunnies while running from the enemies. Also it would be nice to have more persistent enemies for that matter.

Thanks for your feedback. I'm planning on putting more work into this one and fleshing it out a bit.

Good graphics, view could have been more center to the player. Also something other than "Win" at the end could have been better.

Thanks! The win screen was kinda thrown together. Wish I'd devoted more time to interface polish but didn't prioritize very well. Things I'll keep in mind for next jam!

I get the below error when I press a key on the first screen.

############################################################################################ FATAL ERROR in Vertex Shader compilation ShaderName: shd_white

    at gml_Script_scr_draw_shadow ############################################################################################

If it helps I'm running win 10 pro on a surface pro. I'm running studio 2 with no issue. Maybe it's a studio 1 issue with win 10?

-found the solution! You have to install the old directX runtimes. Here is the link to download and fix for anybody who has the same error. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=8109

Hi Jmation. That's strange, I'm running Windows 10 pro as well. I'll test on a Surface and see if I can reproduce the error.

Some cursory googling suggests you may need Directx9 distributable packages installed.

I liked what you tried to do with the artstyle, I'd really look forward to see how this style develops. Could've used a few more sound effects and maybe a 'bunny on you at the moment' counter. Also adding a timer to the end screen may be an idea, I keep accidentally click x on it.

Thanks! I'll keep those suggestions in mind as I keep working on it after the jam rating is over. I had a bunch of plans for the start, end, game over, music, etc but ran short on time.

Post-mortem

There doesn't seem to be anything here.
