Survive endless waves of demons that are trying to devour your soul. Unfortunately you only managed to grab a single shot hand gun. Shoot a demon to be granted another bullet to slay as many demons as you can!

  1. Standard WASD movement

  2. Left click mouse to shoot where your cross-hairs are at.

  3. Kill as many demons as you can without dying

  4. You only get one bullet at a time

Simple but well made game! I included it in my compilation video series of all of the games from the GM48, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/K_L2zq0zxbg

It's a pretty simple concept but it's effective (if a little repetitive). I really think you should get your bullet back when it goes off-screen, though.

The atmosphere is surprisingly good. The music sets the mood very well. The intro and wave transitions are also cool.

Yea a few others said similar things and I was thinking that instead of if you hit a target you get your bullet back, it should just check if there is an instance of the bullet, if not give you one back. I mean I already destroy it when it hits the walls...

      Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, it's nice that you wanted to follow the theme but if you miss your shot, you're screwed and it's... a bit awkward. For the enemy death sound, have 1-3 different sounds and change their pitch by a random number each time (for example from .8 to 1.2)

like I said to kris24, I was going to add a melee to get a shot back but didn't have time for that.

as for the sound I agree I need a few more and I was unaware of the pitch change function that I could use! I'll look into that for sure. thanks! this is the reason I do the GM48, for other people's feedback and good ideas and knowledge of gamemaker that I don't have yet.

I liked the music, what I didn't like was the enemy death sound, because in the later levels it was basically just spammed over and over again and I couldn't hear the good music T_T

The game wasn't bad, maybe a little too simple, with one big problem being that you couldn't do anything about it if you missed your one shot, but other than that I don't think it was so bad.

Oh, and I don't think roman numerals actually work like that lol.

really glad you liked the music! fill be sure to turn down the enemy death sound as well as have a few other sounds to change it up a bit.

as for the Roman numerals it was just the font that I used lol. that's why I didn't use it for the score and only for the wave number... didn't think someone would get high enough to notice.

    A good start.

It's fairly easy, as long as you don't miss. Because if you do, apparently you never get the bullet back and you will eventually be forced to give up running away and die lol.

Gun sound effect was solid. The noise the enemies made got old after a short time.

Thanks. The reason you do't get a bullet back is because I didn't feel that fit the theme of 'One Shot'. I was thinking about adding a melee attack to get a shot back but did't have time for that.

You think having a couple different sounds that it randomly picks one would make it better?

I like the basic style of the game. Even though I feel pretty hypocritical saying this game needed more play testing, since my game could have really used more of that too; it still is a legitimate point. After almost half a dozen waves, you could find yourself starting in seemingly inescapable situations. A good start, but it didn't seem quite there yet.
