It's time for an annual wizard spell casting tourney, a festival where young wizards compete to best each other in a battle of wits. But like all things, times have changed and now it's less a test of magic, and more a test of cheep insults.

Definitely a good spin on Monkey Island, and I really loved the different characters.
I'll +1 the text issues, when it's appearing from the left the start of the sentence keeps moving and it makes it impossible to read until the line is complete.
And I would have liked more than 2 options for answers, that way it would have made the back and forth between other wizzards less repetitive, and the last battle would have been less obvious. But I understand that it would also be more work and it's already impressive as it is.

      Thanks for the feed back.

Yeah I see what you mean with the text, It didn't bother me so I didn't really think it need to be corrected. but now I wish I made it move right instead.

Yeah I thought about adding more responsive, but by the time I thought I need to add it, I was too far in to change it. I would had to rework how the dialogs trees were constructed, so I just double down so I could get the game finished.

Thanks for the feed back again, glad you enjoy your time with the game!

Love the world and the theme! For some reason the vibes reminded me of the Pokemon Trading Card Game on GameBoy but maybe that's just me, haha. Awesome job on this!

I got Monkey Island vibes from this game, from the premise of hurling insults at fellow wizards to the polished sprites and the colors of the text. The polish doesn't stop there, every single character has their own stance in battle and it serves to convey the strong sense of personality, effects are bright and powerful looking and the general world art is very nice.

My only thing about the game, is that it got a little tiresome trying to find every bit of vocab, especially when I forgot who I talked to, but it didn't discourage me from getting to the end.

Spell-Wits is well crafted and absolutely one of the best takes on this theme!

      Thanks for the feedback!

yeah those monkey island vibes where probably from inspiration this game was molded from. I always try to polish my games, just doesn't feel right not to use my extra time to fix stuff up.

yeah sorry about that, I knew that was going to be an issue I tried to make it a bit easier by making people stop talking once you cleared them.

and thanks for such the kind works, did not expect people to like this game as much as they did.

Original interpretation of spellcasting theme. Nice art and music as well.

Although the game became repetitive after a few minutes.

    Thanks for submission.

Pretty fun puzzle game overall, but it did get a bit repetitive by the end. It was a good gameplay concept for how short it was. I liked how you needed to think through the responses more on the last battle. I only had 88% of the quips, and I couldn't get anymore from the students, but I was still able to win the final battle.

The music and art was good too

      thanks for playing!

yeah I knew it was going to be repetitive, I tried to alleviate it a bit by letting you speed up text, or how people start in their second phase once you beat the first.

Super fun take on the theme.

The writing, art and character design all made for a great little experience.

My only critique would be that the text wrapping made me a little dizzy but it wasn't a huge deal.

    Awesome entry.

Great art, music, and writing! I enjoyed the quips and the overall concept. I just have a couple criticisms:

    • Reporting that only 88% of quips were found when you have exhausted the dialogue of all the characters is misleading, and I'm not sure if this was intended.
    • Personally, I think it looks sloppy when words appear for a frame or two before being wrapped to the next line. I think a length check for the word before drawing it would make the text boxes look much more intentional.

Thanks for playing my game and glad you liked it so much!

yeah I must have forgot something in my formula for the clear percentage, that was literally the last thing I added in to the game before uploading it, but was to tired to check it and make sure it worked. oh well.

as for the text issue, yeah I can see how that can be annoying, it never bothered me, plus getting it working as well as it is took a good chuck of time so I was more then happy to leave it as is when I got it to this point.

thanks for playing my game again and for the feedback!

An interesting and fun take on the theme with some silly quips, fun writing and that singleshot style I know to expect from you, with gamepad support as well, always a nice touch! A good entry, lots of fun :)

I really enjoyed the insult dueling in the Monkey Island games, so I found this fun and nostalgic, but still with it's own unique twist. The visuals were great and the music really fit and helped you get immersed. Adding voice lines probably would've helped with immersion but that's not really possible to record given the time window. The insults and comebacks were also funny and witty as they should be.

For changes that I would make, I would probably say that when you get to the point that you can fight Lola Banks the professor should say that you are at 100% not 88% as that made me hunt for extra vocab until I just tried fighting her. This might either be a loophole or an intended feature that we just got stuck on, but if you go straight to the professor after fighting greg for the first time and then use the frog comeback, you will get stuck with his new insult except you won't learn any comebacks you need for the other students so you just get stuck. What I found was that you had to talk to the other students first and use at least one of their insults to learn a comeback the first time you talk to Greg. Then the game continues as normal.

Great game and a lot of fun to learn all the creative insults!

      Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah I also enjoyed the insult duels from Monkey island, it was the inspiration for the game, I even went as far as matching the screen size and art style for it.

I thought about adding voice overs, but I only had two people on had who could do any, and I felt a sub-par voice over would hurt the game more then help it. plus it gave me more time to add other things.

Glad you enjoyed it and thanks!

Pretty cool game! The art and music / sound were certainly the stars of the show - and overall the concept of the game is great.

I got pretty frustrated after about 30 minutes of playing, as I wasn't having any luck coaxing new responses out of competitors to learn - not sure if there's any randomness associated with that, but I was unable to beat the game.

All around I had fun, though!

      Thanks for the feedback!

yeah sorry you had so much trouble with Reponses, no there is no randomness, each dialog tree is pre-planed and doesn't change. happy you still enjoyed the game despite your troubles with it.
