Dizzy Magic

They are drawn to your light. They seek to fill the void with it's power. They must not claim it as their own. Repel them at all costs.

Time is not on your side! Creatures are coming for your power and will not stop until they take it. Cast spells by activating the correct ruins around you and blast them to pieces.

Feels like one of those games that you'd pull up on your phone while you're at a waiting room or something - in a good way. :P
    Fun concept!

I had to lower the volume so much because of the bassy noise that I'm not sure if there were other sfx :(

It's a really cool game, but it suddenly becomes very hard 😅 I managed a 25 after 2 or 3 tries. Learning where the shape / colors were instinsctively felt pretty rewarding.

A few tweaks I would have liked:

    • Enemies being slower but appearing sooner. For most of the run, you're shooting stuff you can't see and suddenly when you see them it's too late
    • Missing a rune means your spell will fail, but the game only cancels the missed shot, which means you need to actually wait for a full turn to try again.
    • Similarly, hitting a rune a second time should keep it active for a 2nd turn (while still deactivating the other ones), it's very hard to wait for it to deactivate before clicking, even when it's spinning slowly.
    • It's always an issue with wave based games, but here it starts reaaaaally slow.

The art and sound design is really good and polished! I like the moving texture that is masked on to the spiders. I enjoyed the overall concept and found spellcasting to be really satisying when I could pull them off consecutively. I couldn't tell if the frequency of spiders increased or not, but I think it would be a great addition to the added difficulty of the faster rotation. If the spiders do become more frequent, I think a quicker frequency increase would help with the pacing of the difficulty.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Tweaking the monster spawn rate was one of the things we were tinkering with right up until the submission deadline; seems like we could have turned it up even more. :D

I'm so dizzy, I feel like I need a lie down after that, my head is spinning haha, but I got 29, so I'm happy with that :) you've done a wonderful thing with such a simple yet well-refined concept - I'm getting major mobile game vibes from this, I don't know if it's your intention but expanding on this and turning it in to a mobile game would be a fantastic idea - you've done a great job here!

Thank you so much! I think expanding might be the way to go with this entry after the jam, especially with the kind responses we've gotten. 29 is way higher than I've scored, but I only have myself to blame for that. 🤣

Wonderful idea for spellcasting! I enjoyed this game. The best entry I played so far. I tried twice: my scores were 17 and 24.

Really unique simple game idea that feels surprisingly good, especially when you get into a groove.

Wish the actual runes you needed to cast were displayed a little closer to the actual clock so your eyes don't have to travel too much.

Ended up getting up to 16 💪

Great score and great feedback. If we iterate on this we're definitely looking to move the position of the ruins needed for the spell; the distance the eyes need to travel is definitely too much! 😅

I felt so confident in my abilities for like 15 spells in a row, and then it all went south so fast 😆 Got to 19 in the end but I was failing a lot of the rotations, especially when the three I had to get were in a row.

Lovely presentation with a fun theme-fitting idea, and a pretty haunting atmosphere overall between the deep droning SFX and the graphical style. Great entry!

Thanks Allison! It definitely gets tricky when the speed and intensity ramps up. 19 is great so don't worry about it at all! 😀

I'm glad you enjoyed it; looking forward to giving your entry a go soon!

I agree that the audio levels needed some more adjustment, the background hum especially. Thanks for playing and streaming your run through then leaving us some feedback, you seemed to pick it up incredibly fast! (Way faster than I did while building. lol)

Really fun game with a unique concept! The graphics are incredibly good and the sound design is also really good. The gameplay is really satisfying and breaking your highscore feels really good.

I think that if the difficulty scaled up just a little faster it would help trying to beat your highscore as it can take awhile to get back up to the point that it's hard. And maybe for the sound design making the orb's ambience just a little quieter.

Overall a really polished and fun game!

Thank you for the very kind feedback! We spent a lot of time getting the gameplay to match the visual and audio vibe so I'm glad it came through for you. The ramp of the monsters has some variation built in, so some runs definitely can start a little slow; given more time that is definitely something we would have wanted to give more attention to.

This submission feels so complete and polished! I like the concept and the name is very fitting - really creepy rat spiders! Great work!

Thank you for taking the time to play! We had such a good time with the Spider Rats Justin made; were all screaming/laughing on our Discord call when he revealed them. A very memorable moment of the jam for sure.
