- Sometimes the game can lock up in the opponent's combat phase. It will say "No attackers left, ending the phase..." but never actually end the phase. If this happens, press P to skip to the next phase manually!
Mana stops refilling at 15
- Oops... Although if you made it to turn 15 you're probably dead either way lol

There appears to be an issue where blocking enemies share the attack value of the last played enemy. Eg. from Naxos's video: https://youtu.be/5OVYBGXOU9k?t=682 the attacker takes 4 damage when it should only take 2 (in that case it didn't matter because it would die anyway, but I ran into cases where it does matter).
I love the game! Though I do wish there was less randomness and more strategic choices to be made.
This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's a little weird that it's like MTG in that you just choose to attack, not who to attack, but unlike MTG one creature can block multiple enemies (as well as have attacked the previous turn). This does make it hard to deal with one super strong creature that can do it all.

Thanks for the feedback! I do agree there are some questionable choices when it comes to some of those mechanics you mentioned.. some due to not planning every mechanic ahead of time, and some due to lack of time to fix previously made mistakes lol
Also wow, I hadn't seen that bug before :O

"Come, play this game with me", said Fred.
"Okay, sounds fun", I reply.
"Okay, you start with 15 HP, I start with 30 HP"
"Wait... wha"
"Shhh, just trust me, this is a great game"
"Okay then"
... a bit later ...
"Alright, I draw 2 cards.... and play... these 4 monsters" said Fred
"HEY! That's not possible!" I yelled
"This is just the way the designers balanced out the 1st player advantage!"
"I dunno, feels like you're cheating Fred..."
... later ...
"Aww shucks, you lost! Better luck next time."
"Ya cheating #%&#%!" (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

Okay, but seriously, this was such a cool and unique concept!
Great polish all around! The little characters you make are so neat. I liked how the swirl particles were dependent which parts you used. Good sounds, good music. Just felt really cohesive.
I can't really blame you too much for the cheating AI; I know it's not easy to make a fair system in 48 hours, all the while building the rest of the game too!
One thing that could've changed for the submitted version: letting the character draw up to 3 cards for each row, instead of just 1 per row.
Another thing I might've liked: let me choose to attack hybreeds on my attack phase!
I could see this being fleshed out quite a bit... lots of room to grow, mechanically speaking, but I see elsewhere you're probably not going to do a post-jam version.
Was a pleasure to play your game :)
PS. I uploaded a video of my playthrough

Thanks for the feedback and video :D
The little dialogue you wrote is quite funny, reminding me of playing card games like Yu-Gi-Oh! or Magic with friends (and "friends") as a child, there'd always be people pulling cheaty tricks like that (and also we weren't good at English, so we didn't always know the rules quite correctly lol...) XD

Unfortunately I'm not much of one for card games. So 0s all around! Nah, this is great as far as the idea goes. Could use some speed up improvements like faster summoning the more rounds you go through, auto-skip phases if you don't have the mana/monsters and such to do them.

I loved the interpretation of the theme in this game, bottom and top-halves of monsters. In stream I wanted to joke about tits or butts something inline "which one you prefer? Both", but thought it as inappropriate so I mention it here ^^"
Pretty much everything has been said before in feedbacks. Overall I liked this game and I hope you make post-jam version of it. I am not sure would this work as "big game", but abilities etc. for funs :)

Great concept, I enjoyed creating different freakish combinations and the artwork went along with that nicely. I especially liked the non-threatening look of the skeleton top half. For a 48 hour card game this was amazing. If you were to expand on the idea I would like to see status effect card combinations, maybe certain combinations trigger a 'heal ally' effect or a 'clear all hybreeds' from the board or something like that. Anyway I really like the idea which is why I can't help but think of all the cool things you could do with it but please don't mind my unsolicited ideas. Awesome game!

Excuse me sir, what the heck is that?!
Apart from this cursed thing, pretty good game.
Okay there's other small things like the AI cheating or the fact that it sometimes doesn't attack for some reasons. But overall it's just good. I mean, it's obviously make in 48h so there isn't much depth and you kinda just play what you can, but it was still pretty fun and I could completely see a more advanced version of this game being good.
And yeah the transition between phases is a little slow but it's not like you're supposed to play the game over and over. Oh and at first I had some troubles understanding who was attacking what but after like 2 turns it was ok.

Thanks! :D
I should've probably added a "selected" outline around monsters you're attacking with, and opponent monsters that are attacking, instead of just reducing the alpha of all other monsters, that would've made it a lot clearer probably >.<
Also I answered some stuff about the speed of animations etc. in a reply to the feedback below yours, if you're interested in that info

I REALLY loved this game, the combination of monsters, the quirkiness, the humour, the art, the style, EVERYTHING. My only suggestion is that the game moves at a slow pace, though I have very little experience with card games and don't know if: 1. that's normal for card games or 2. this moved faster or slower than average compared to other card games. But for a card game novice, I was prepared to get far too overwhelmed with this genre and yet I had no trouble with that, everything was very well explained and it was all done really well so that anyone playing can get to grips with it and have a really great time with it. This is a brilliant game and I sincerely hope you continue this project post-jam, I want to see hundreds more quirky combinations where that came from haha! :)

Card games are inherently a bit slow, yeah, especially ones like this where you're playing against an opponent who also uses cards. Of course I could've sped up the animations, but I wanted players to not be too confused about what's happening so I tried to balance speed vs being able to read text before it disappears (e.g. on opponents turn phases, when opponent is picking blockers, etc.). Maybe I should've made it so animations speed up a little every turn, but I didn't think of that during the jam.

Everything is perfect- the sounds, the art, the old retro-style aesthetic, and the concept, except for the enemy AI having unlimited cards and summoning as many hybreeds as it has mana to do. I love it so much!

I had fun playing this for a bit, but the enemy AI cheating gets very out of hand very fast, which damaged the experience for me. The music and art are both top notch, and it's a very novel concept for the theme -- the only real problem with it is balancing.

What a gorgeous game. The art was really fantastic and had so much character in it. In some ways it had an almost 3D like feel similar to Dead Cells (though that does use 3D models...)
The feel of the game is great. If I saw someone playing it, I wouldn't have thought it was just made in 48 hours. The polish is so good you could publish it without changes to the UI or the graphics. The image noise in the game gave it a retro feel though the juice and the style made it feel very modern. Love the style.
Also really liked the addition of the story. It was totally unecessary for a card game but it really gave it so much charm. Lots of memories teaching people games and connecting with them through boardgames. The quarantine has made that difficult so the dialogue put a smile to my face.
The diffrent combos are also hilarious. Didn't care so much what the optimal build was. Just having a blast!

Thanks for the feedback :D
My original idea was to have the player be a new member of a card game club, having to play various members of the club. But when the deadline was nearing I had to cut it to 1 fight and change the story to something else, which ended up being written at the speed of light within the last hour or so 😂

What a fantastic entry. I only know YuGiOh and Pokemon TCG in terms of card games, but there's a lot I really like about the strategic aspects of this game. Having a choice to use any of your hybreeds to defend or just tank the damage, and attack and defense stats being used simultaneously makes for a better experience imo. No stat is useless. Plus the graphics and audio are fantastic, the UI is so smooth, clean and responsive, and the pixel art is top notch. All the post processing effects look really nice too! 0 Complains on my end.

This is awesome! The hybreeds made me laugh a couple of times. Sound, UI and overall art are all really nice. HOWEVER: the game has serious balance issues. The opponent always plays on curve (spends all mana perfectly) while I run out of cards in the first few turns. Apparently it's just impossible to win. :( Apart from that, it's very impressive you managed to make something like this only in 48 hours

It's totally possible to win! But you are right, the game balance is off. For practical reasons, the opponent's AI technically cheats (has access to their entire deck instead of an active hand, like the player) so if you haven't won by turn 10 you're probably screwed. And of course, due to the nature of card games, there's a bit of luck involved too.

This is so good! Apart from the combat phase bug that I ran into, every aspect of this game is so well executed. The art is charming and wonderful. Everything looks so polished, which is crazy for a game jam. More than anything, the game is actually really fun. I would love to see this developed so that I can play more of it.
