Description

A game featuring its own developer, who is annoyed that players don't have to suffer what he goes through to make a half-decent game. He decides that it will be impossible for the player to win, and even if it wasn't impossible, the only tool available is a chicken, so good luck with that.

Funny game!! I included it in my GM48: One Tool, Many Uses compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/xLRwFoQlSuM

This game is strange, but also really entertaining and enjoyable. It's certainly one of the most unique games. It's hard to comment on many exact things since so much weird stuff happens. The chicken certainly had a lot of uses so I guess it fits the theme.

It's kind of hard to criticize the game because while a lot of the elements feel messy and random (inconsistent pixel sizes, different art styles, combing retro sounds and higher quality recordings, etc.), that stuff also adds a lot to the game's bizarre charm. I will say that the voice could be louder. Some subtitles would be nice too.

I loved this game. Hilarious, to say the least. Probably the most interesting take on the theme for this jam.

The sound was not balanced at times, though I did love the voice and sound effects. The lack of music hurts it. Controls could have been less finicky. I would have liked less MS Paint art, but I get that it was supposed to be a joke. If these flaws had been addressed, I would say this game deserves to win this quarterly jam because the use of the chicken does such a superb job of capturing the theme.

All in all, this was a surprising and great experience! NO ONE BEATS THE CHICKEN GAME!

Oh. Man. I gotta be honest, because of the thumbnail, I wasn't expecting much.

But I didn't expect that. Probably the funniest entry. I was going to say "so far", but I am not sure anything will top it in terms of humour. I especially love the way it fits the theme.

Although there are flaws, like the chicken moving sound. Funny at first, but it gets repetitive after a while. Also, the narrative voice is a bit too low. It's nice to modify your voice but that might be a bit too much!

Not sure if the crash at the end is intended or not...

I love this game. Anyone can play and finish it (exept someone as unlucky as Joseph). But I think it would be nice if the voice also had a textbox or something if you didn't hear what he said.

Agree with Fachewachewa about the volume balance, and I had a really hard time figuring out how to get the second banana to show up. I also had to play twice because there is a bug (unintended this time, I hope) where you can move right once you control your chicken and the platforms that appear trap you below them. Then when you go right, you are stuck inside the platforms and there is no way out.

But besides those small things, this was really fun and probably the most creative use of the theme I've seen out of the 54 entries I've played so far. Length is good, immersive experience etc. Very well done!

This was really great, enjoyed it the whole way through. Was the error at the end intended? Genius. Good Job!

Fun game! I'm not even sure if the error at the end is intended or not, but I'm going to think that it is.

Biggest problem is the audio balance, the voice is very low compared to all the sound effects :(

Pretty funny, you should try your hand at making a complete game similar to this.

    Fits the theme well too.

Post-mortem

This is my first postmortem, and this is the first time I’ve participated in a game jam, so it’s been an experience. Before it started, I was aware of how hard and stressful game jams could be, but I still thought, I’m going to be smart about it, I’m going to plan a simple design, I’m going to code efficiently, and I’m going to get it done. I was wrong. My design was simple enough, and I did get it done, but I did not code efficiently at all. I spent two hours the next night just trying to make a smooth room transition! And while that did eventually work and looked good, it would have been much smarter to spend that two hours nailing down solid mechanics and gameplay. By the time the deadline rolled around I was a little angry and pretty frustrated. Some of the features in the game weren’t working completely and I had to scrap a few mechanics altogether. But the main thing I was annoyed by was that I didn’t have time to add in music or properly adjust the levels of the sound effects. This meant that some of the sound effects were way too loud compared to the narration, which was the main complaint I’ve seen in my feedback. Also I love music and I’m always paying attention to the music in games I play, so I’m sad I didn’t get to add a soundtrack. About a minute before the deadline something still wasn’t working properly, and I hadn’t tested it much, so I seriously considered not submitting my game because I didn’t want to read embarrassingly bad feedback. But my sister and mom had supported me amazingly through the jam, and I had spent the last two days not interacting properly with my family so I could do the jam (I’m a college kid and I was home for the winter break). I couldn’t let them down. So I submitted it, I showed the game to my family and a friend and they thought it was unique and hilarious, and the feedback I’ve gotten so far on this site is much more positive than I expected, so in the end I’m really glad I did it. Special thanks to the community and moderators!
