Explore an abandoned nuclear plant in search for the source of mysterious radiation...

Notes
This game's super unfinished and light on content as a result. Lots of cool mechanics that relate more to the theme were in the pipeline (radiation getting stronger and affecting things, your flock of rats growing and helping you solve puzzles, etc.), but time is a fickle mistress, as you know. I'm just as disappointed with the ending as you. At least it looks cool 😅

Sorry it didn't turn out spooky at all, Seltzy xD

The end was actually kinda creepy, I didn't notice the shadow at first! It's cool, too bad you couldn't add more content! I feel it was close to have the theme relevant

I LOVED the feel of this game from top to bottom - it really has all the makings of a great horror game :) The way the geiger counter lags behind your view just a little bit is perfect and the rats are cute but ALSO kind of menacing - I can tell you put a lot of work into this! Great work as always Baku (+kbjwes)!

3D interesting i like the story behind this, you could make this into a proper game but i got a few things to say

    • What does the Game have to do with the Theme? What am i watching grow xD -There's not a goal, there's nothing i do , im just walking around looking for stuff while rats follow me
    • all i can do is Walk not sprint or do more things
    • There's just a lack of content -The Ending just closed the game which was a little confusing, too short aswell

but yes i know its 48 hours and 3D is insanely hard especially in an engine not made for 3D, loved the art and sound and it felt like a horror game

Cool game. Even though I saw on stream twice, it was kinda spooky going around with the geigercounter. Really adds some tension, and it isn't the worst interpretation of the theme. I guess it should have been more integral, but I get how long it takes to make these games. Seems like they are progressing nicely every other jam (hoping to see a 3d gm indie game from you some day). The atmosphere was cool, music was fitting, and just a really sick (no pun) looking game!

The atmosphere is really cool! Yeah it's lacking gameplay really (and that ending lol, I wasn't sure what to expect from the description but it wasn't that haha) but that doesn't matter too much - it's a cool demo piece! I liked the little bit of character the rats had with the squeaks and jumps.

I feel like this would make a good exploration game - doesn't really need the rats, well - I guess it does theme wise for this since it's watching your rat swarm grow - but ignoring the theme - I don't think it needs them! Just a large facility that you can walk around and discover things, blood stains, strange rooms - but always having that feeling that there is something there with you, watching. When I walked over the bridge and looked down at the large green cubes I really wanted to go down there and check them out!

Could easily pack in a few puzzles, lots of bits of lore left behind (notes on paper, computers left on to half finished documents) and it would make a great exploration/discovery game with a creepy atmosphere!

(And of course it's 3D so extra points there for being able to do that!)

    I WAS SPOOKED.

Amazing atmosphere, as an experience, despite the lack of gameplay, it was still very solid and felt complete in a way. Super impressed by the 3d work as always.

    Great game, congratulations!

Atmosphere was top touch. I'm a big fan of rats so the rats jumping up and squeaking made me smile. I'm planning on getting some pet rats soon. So adorable. I'm terrible at scares though and jumped a little at the end haha. Nice walking simulator which isn't a bad thing. It had some cool environments and a nice atmosphere. Spooky and I was feeling tight from the building anticipation. I enjoy games like Dear Esther so this was quite fun. I think I'd have liked some more story spread out within the game rather than mainly on the intro. Such nice work!

To do a game in 3D in such a short time is a great achievement, I only wish I hadn't watched the streams first and knew what was coming! Still, a really great submittion! :)

I did like the atmospher, but maybe music wasn't suitable. I liked the lighting and was there voronoi effect on the pool? This left wanting bit more ^^

Thanks for the feedback, although personally I thought kbjwes's music was quite nice

Yes! I've gotten so much better at shaders recently, but the voronoi part did require a trip or two to shadertoy for a bit of help aha

The music was good, but felt it being bit off from game, but it is up to players taste ^^ Lately I have tried to learn more about shaders too (: I haven't tried to do Voronoi myself, but Delaunay triangulation on other things in GML, it can be challenging 👀

The game is very atmospheric and succeeds in building the anticipation as you walk down the corridors. It was definitely nice to have those cute little rats keeping me company as I walked through the darkness.

Thanks!! Glad you think it succeeds in building anticipation :D

The original vision for the rats, which I couldn't achieve due to mismanagement of time, was to have them be friendly and helpful throughout the game, but at the very end turn against the player. So it's like they were actually luring you into a trap all along, or something. But yeah, in this version they are mostly just cute rats that follow you around :D

Really cool shaders, I liked the wavy water and the lighting on the walls, really well done

Thanks! I'm still amazed by how good the water glow looks, compared to how unbelievably hacky it's implemented (make a surface the size of the room -> draw a square the size and colour of the water on the surface, black everywhere else -> blur the surface -> use the surface as a texture in the 3D model shader -> figure out the UVs based on the fragment's world XY, and add the colour) xD

The game was very atmospheric. Very well done. Too bad it was very short and lacked more work in the end, it leaves you waiting for more ...

Rats jumping alert as you come closer was a nice touch <w>

despite that detail very good work. Keep it up!!

Love the aesthetic and the technical ability displayed here. I'm guessing the amount of radiation is what we're watching grow?

Not much going on in terms of gameplay - but it was still interesting to experience! The ending was a bit of a let-down, but I guess that comes with a time limit like this.

Perfect atmosphere, perfect aesthetic, perfect sound design, less perfect gameplay. There's barely any gameplay here whatsoever, although if this was to be developed into a full game, I have no doubts it'd be quite an interesting and spooky one.

The music, was great! I love seeing 3D in GM, would love to see a post mortem on how you managed it!

Great job. Loved the atmosphere. Was a bit startled at the end. My only complain would be the end where the game just closed, wasn't sure if it was a crash or if just ends so abruptly.

Really enjoyed the atmosphere of this one. The ending was very intense too. Would love to see this released as an engine, even if you charged a dollar or two, not enough FPS style games in GMS2.

Thanks! The ending was not what I had in mind from the start, but it's what I could piece together in the last hour of the jam lol, so it's a bit out of place, but I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Basic 3D FPS stuff like this isn't too difficult to do (it just takes a lot more time than 2D...) so I'm not sure releasing it as an engine is worth it - if you want to see how something similar to this was made, you can look at the project files for one of my previous 3D games, SOMNIUM

Amazing. have you considered releasing the source code? It's hard find good gms2 3d projects.

    This is absolutely brilliant!

Even if the gameplay isn't the most thrilling thing out there, the aesthetics alone blew me away.
