Description

When the game starts choose your difficulty, normal is recommended for the average typing speed, hard for much faster typists and easy for slow typists. Type the words correctly and fast to climb the tower before the darkness catches you, the towers light traps will slow the darkness, giving you a few breathing seconds to catch up.

EXPECTED LENGTH: 3-5 minutes (assuming you are successful on the first go)

Summary

Type Tower is a well-received typing game with a unique voxel art style and a creative integration of the jam theme. Players appreciated the balanced gameplay and multiple difficulty options, though many suggested adding a harder mode for more challenge. Some feedback noted the game's short length and the scrolling text mechanic being somewhat hard to read. Visual and audio polish could be improved, and UI elements like difficulty buttons could be made more intuitive.

    Short and Sweet!

I managed to beat the game on hard first attempt, a super hard mode would be nice to have.

Also I liked how the text is related to the story, enjoyed that last bit of text right at the end. A very nice touch!

This was a very short and neat game. I very much agree with the feedback meseta gave you regarding the scrolling text.

Other than that, I recommend you to make clickable buttons like the difficulty selector appear in a somewhat different color when hovered over with the cursor. This tells the player that they can click on this object to change something, so the menu is a bit more intuitive

Well that was short but nice idea, use the typing as storytelling mechanic. Also because of the Voxel type of graphics (still sprites I assume) it did stand out of the rest. Not the typical pixel graphics ^^

Awesome take on the theme, I wish there was a bit of a harder mode than hard though! I feel like all of us are a bit bias though, as we all love to code and are very likely good typists! Great submission :)

I like the voxel art style, very unique!

And I agree with Kwis about difficulty, Hard was surprisingly easy, some kind of extreme difficulty could've been fun. Maybe you could've even implemented a slider for people to set a custom speed.

    Neat little game!

On a personal note, I find it very hard to do typing tests where the whole text scrolls letter by letter. It makes it very hard to read what you're supposed to type because the whole text is scrolling.

Okay so when I saw proble playing I was expecting to struggle like a mad man but it turns out I type faster than I thought! I type with 2 fingers, yet I was able to finish the game in one attempt on hard... and the fire thing wasn't even visible on the screen!

Now I wish there was a super hard mode aha

Anyway, Pretty cool concept, although it makes for a rather short experience. I appreciate the unexpected use of voxels, although it felt a bit simple. Still sweet!

Took me two attempts on normal :) This is a rely original take on the theme and I think you have implemented the mechanics very well. The background track doesn't add a lot but it's enough to keep me emerged. I don't think it's the best game of this jam, it's not really replayable, but it does what it's supposed to do and it does it well.

I played through it pretty quickly, which is a shame because I really liked it! The crawling darkness on your track, making a mistake because your brain tries to climb faster than your fingers can...it was really exciting to play!

As a proof of concept very neat. I could imagine this with more levels, maybe different routes depending on the sentence you type...

    Good job!

I honestly love the artstyle but I wish the background wasn't all black like that :(

I'm pretty bad at typing but the game was very fair, but the way it blocks you when you make a mistake is pretty confusing though. I kept messing up because I tried to correct too fast, and I was pretty hard to get used to.

Very cool typing game out of a simple mechanic that you managed to tie well with the theme, could overall be polished a little better visually or soundwise, but the gameplay is balanced really well (and 3 difficulty options too!)
