Pokee & Blue

Pokee & Blue is a short turn-based isometric puzzle game, where the right moves are required to survive against the squidgies infesting the forest.

How to play:

Perform a turn by moving or attacking with Pokee by clicking the grid tiles or enemies adjacent to him. Pokee's companion, Blue, will perform her turn afterwards. You can set what Blue's attack should be by pressing '1' or '2', and she will perform them when ready. Facing enemies directly may hurt Pokee, so time attacks with Blue accordingly!

TLDR:

Mouse Left Click - Move / Attack

'1' - Blue's Area of Effect Attack

'2' - Blue's Forward Attack

'R' - Restart Game

Cute artwork and a great game, I'm impressed with what you could do with just yourself. We had an entire person devoted to sound, on our team, so don't feel bad for not getting to it in the 48 hours. The rest seems really polished. The combat reminded me of Crypt of the Necrodancer, where you had to time when to retreat and attack.

Because it is turn based, you have time to think, and in whatever later levels you create, you could make the map even smaller with more enemies, requiring just the right kind of movement.

I really like this! I love the delay on the butterflies attack too. I think it adds a nice element to the strategy. Graphics are really nice. The only downside is the lack of sound. But other then that, excellent job!

Nice game, the graphics were charming, and the gameplay seemed fairly solid! My only complaint is getting sent back to the beginning if you die.

That's fair enough. It just has the 4 levels so it wasn't particularly needed for this but for future, checkpoints and saves would be a must!

I really like this one. The online exe was nice to have to I don't gotta go through the trouble of downloading it. The animated GIF caught my attention the character is cute and the environmental art is a bit above or on par for average I really like the portal animation and attacking animations well done. I think maybe switching attacks should spend your turn because I could reset my attack bar if I switched then switched back. Perhaps make it so it doesn't restart? or have two characters to control. (Its understandable is you wanna keep just one character though.) Anyway this is my favorite game so far. Its a bit short but when having only two days I understand. Keep working on this and I'll come back and play it again!

Thanks a lot for the kind words! Yeah being able to switch skills without much of a penalty is kinda cheating. There's a lot of directions I could take it, possibly even as a roguelike/lite and more enemy mechanics!

As opposed to Metroid3D I found this to be very easy. I didn't even die once. I could just move around until all blobs were dead.

The art was nice, but the game could have benefited from some simple sound effects and maybe some relaxing music. :)

Nice :) I guess what I should do going forwards is a couple of 1 enemy maps where you kill with each ability, then ramp it up. More enemy types later one for the challenge.

Yeah I wish I’d gotten some sound sorted. Maybe future jams! Thanks for the feedback

This looked really cool! And it's pretty neat to play until you die. Found this really unforgiving and challenging. Took me a couple tries to get past the first stage and when I died later, I was booted back to the beginning. I'd love to see something like this but with a better difficulty curve. Lack of sound also makes me sad.

I've done a couple of game jams before purely as an artist, so this was my first solo jam. It worked quite well, one struggle with remote team development is not knowing exactly what is needed and what can be achieved. I was able to get something playable made, and then make the appropriate number of assets based on the time I had left.

I started kinda late and spontaneously, I didn't want to bring someone in to 'use' them for their sound skills. In future team game jams I'd love to get someone on board to do this.

What I've learnt is problems with past game jams. If you're in a team, nail down the concept and art style right away, giving the artist the freedom to create what they want that will fit the style. If you're the developer, keep communicating with the team as you hold all the insight into what can be achieved and when. Cut ideas as soon as they become a burden, they can be added later once you've made something playable.
