HEADPHONES RECOMMENDED
NOTE It has come to our attention that it might not be totally obvious that the Earth is the final quote to solve to see the ending. So when you get there, click on the Earth to finish the game :)
KNOWN BUG - If you answer the missing word for Earth incorrectly the game will throw you an error report and close, sorry about that!
DESCRIPTION
Pale blue dot is a peaceful game of exploration. Ping to find signals around you, they will reveal pieces of our past. Resonate with the words from the past by filling in the blanks.
Type the words to fill in the missing pieces and move towards the signals.
You have travelled far, fuel is a major concern. Plan your route with care, more difficult signals may get you further than the less complex ones would!
Good luck.
p.s. If you get too stuck, wait around a while, words may appear to prompt you in the right direction.

That was interesting. Not incredibly incredible but indeed peaceful and immersive. I like the originality!

Great game, the "how to play" part is a bit to much in one go. Try to keep info at one thing at a time. Fun game. Inspired by the previous winner in a different way?

This was a beautiful little experience.
I surprised myself with how many of these quotes I knew, but the game also surprised me with how difficult it is to find earth. Art and music were pretty good and made the experience that much more immersive, and the gameplay was alright even though it got a little boring after losing a couple times.
I enjoyed it.

I think I'm pretty bad, because I think I didn't managed to get any answer right. :P
I read the other comments and most of my problems were covered so, I'll focus on what I liked:
The sound design is great (music and sfx are perfect for the ambience) and the graphics are very nice. Really great job putting all this together! I like the strategic aspect of it too.
Just one suggestion: bring the ship down a bit for making room to the text being above it (or place the text below it). The text has similar color, so, although readable, I think it would be more beautiful to separate it.
It's a good game and with some retouches will be a great game. Good job!

This is a really interesting and unique idea for a game. The mechanic of filling in quotes neat and the hints are a nice touch. I like the art and the music, especially how they combine to form a great atmosphere for being in the depths of space.
A few issues:
- The background disappears if you go too far left
- Some of the quotes go off the edge of the screen
- The game should restart when you run out of fuel
EDIT: "All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given __" and "White Rabbit put on his spectacles..." go slightly off the right side of the screen. There could be others but those were the ones I noticed while replaying the game just now.

Thanks for the feedback :) The background is definitely something I could fix! And is also the reason that the game might take a moment to restart after you run out of fuel - as the room is tiled again.
Could I ask what quotes went off the edge of the screen for you (Any example) as I haven't seen that.
Thanks again!
EDIT Thanks for playing again and checking! I will go look at those quotes....

The game is unusually intriguing. The idea is kind of beautiful in its essence and the music does well to tie it together.
The game, while creative, does not allow for gamers/players of all backgrounds to play on the same level. Having to wait for hints to advance is a bit discouraging as a gamer :c I had to google some but that takes away from immersion >_<

Thanks for the feedback!
We tried to include quotes from all sorts of media so that it wouldn't be too difficult, but we also had a discussion quite close to the end about removing the fuel system altogether to just let people move around at their own pace. I think that the game couldn't have been big enough in the time it was made for that, but it's definitely something to consider if we work on it afterwards. As well as just having lots more quotes from different areas.
Thanks again!

A lot of games in this game were dungeon-crawlers, action or shoot-em-ups, so this was a really nice, welcome change of pace. The atmosphere was incredibly peaceful and calming, and the art is very well done. I enjoyed playing this a lot, had to play through a few times to reach the ending since I ran out of fuel but hey, I just don't know Johnny Cash lyrics well enough :)
I got the same quote a few times but it's not a big deal, and it made it up for my lack of knowledge on other ones. Your interpretation of the concept is clever and inventive, and you've executed it very well. Sound FX and music were astounding (the simplicity of the SFX struck me), and really helped to bring the environment alive. I hope you continue working on this post-jam, I had a lot of genuine fun with this!

Wow! That's really lovely feedback thanks :) So glad you had fun! I've already been working to fix the known bug and a couple of other things, I think it would be great to think about what else could be done with this post jam.

Fun! I admit I got stuck and had to look up a couple. Nice consistent pixelart. The game doesn't feel made under 48h time restraint. I'm not sure if the responses aren't case sensitive, insisting on lower case. Easy to understand, intuitive gameplay & good hints.

Well done. Really great idea and the music and look fit very well together. The music was my favorite part. I didn't really know many of the quotes so i spent a lot time just listening.
At some point the background became black. And when i got to the earth and typed in the last word the game crashed. The bug report said something about obj_quote. Sorry i forgot to copy!
Awesome job!

Thanks for your great feedback! I'll be sure to tell our musician he's getting great reviews :D
Sorry about the background! And the bug - I just tried to recreate it and it happens when you type the wrong answer in for the earth quote. Sad I missed it when making the game but I will add it to the description so others know :)

Very original concept and great execution. The artwork was spot on and the music set a perfect tone (I didn't mind leaving it on in the background as I got distracted with other things). I really enjoyed this relaxing break in the midst of the usually hectic jam games.
A few things I noticed, that I'm sure you'd clean up with more time: -The menu selection are a bit hard to mouse over
- Words I'd correctly guessed appeared in blue around the screen. I wasn't sure what was going on there.
- I got the same passages a couple times each. An easy fix with a larger bank of material.
- I reached the edge of the room a few times. No big deal, but definitely killed the vibe of an infinite sky.

Thanks for the lovely feedback :)
You are definitely right that those things could be cleaned up, and I think I might do just that because for a post jam version. There are 30 quotes in the game, I could definitely have a better system to make sure no duplicates are shown while you explore! The words reappearing that you "learn" was a design choice, but if you didn't think it worked that's good to know :)
