Nice maze game, I liked the ability to jump walls

I like the idea of a maze that reveals itself as you traverse it. And the painting looks really cool visually! The controls were felt bit clunky though and unless I understood something wrong, it was unclear which walls you could jump. I thought it was based on the thickness of the wall but it didn't seem to work very consistently so dunno. A cool game, and good job making it in only 12 hours too!

Yeah the wall jumping was supposed to be based on the thickness, since it doesn't allow you to jump out of the maze. I should have made it put out a bit more paint so it would be easier to see the adjacent walls!

I didn't expect a simple maze game to be that engaging. Made it to level 23 (it was a very mean level).

I really like the use of jumping, it solves so many problems at once, felt really powerful. My only complaint really is that it was sometimes hard to know what was a wall that could be jumped. Seems like the wider walls are "interiors", but I've seen a few places where they weren't, so idk if it's random or not.

Glad that you liked the jumping! I agree that it's hard to tell which walls are jumpable - I could have made the paint splatters a bit larger so it's easier to see the width of the walls. It's supposed to be that all of the wide walls are jumpable so if you found a few that weren't I must have messed up something ahaha

The underlying game mechanics here were basic but the splatty paint mechanics were very cool - definitely could see those being used in more substantial mechanics 😄 Really good music too, and the presentation was basic but did the job!

The main issue I had with playing it was that occasionally the finish spawned off screen - it was normally findable by taking the first long path accessible from the start, but it still threw me a couple of times when already trying to manage the "fast paced Pac-Man"-esque controls with actually having to locate the pathways in the first place. I'm assuming those are randomly generated?

Truly epic indeed. Very nice lil entry.

Thanks for playing! If you jump over a wall it splatters paint in the direction of the door, so you can use that to help if the door isn't in the view at the start.

Fun vibes, I really like all of the effects going on. One might even say they are epic.

  • Tydecon Games

Well, that certainly was epic! I really like the procedural generation and shader effects you've got going on here and it's a simple but well put together concept, nicely done! :)

It actually doesn't use any shaders, just one of the built-in filters! :D

Nice little game! Walking blindy through the maze while using this ink thing as a path reference really worked out well. And you did that in 12 hours, that's pretty impressive!

I got to level 29. truly epic.

A great way to make a maze game! It'd be cool to see something like this on a larger scale

The Game is pretty good, considering how simple it is. The Game stays interesting with random level generation, but at the same you can loose because of it. You guess which way to take, there is not really a way to tell which one to go. The controls feel quite nice. The Game would heavily benefit from something like Power Ups, like Time Bonus or increased speed. Or a light power up that shows you the full map but only for like 1 second. Then it would not be that much of a guessing game but one where you remember the path.

Powerups would definitely have been good if I wanted to expand the idea more. I would note that when you jump over a wall, it splatters paint in the direction of the door, so you can get an idea of where to go. Probably should have put that in the description lol

I like the style, the music is only decent yet matches the visual style well. The game itself isn't exactly groundbreaking but it plays smoothly and being able to jump walls in a maze game is a nice touch. Looks like the levels are procedurally generated which is ok except that it seems to sometimes make them too easy or too hard.

I agree that the difficulty isn't consistent. Random gen is hard ahaha

This was a super interesting entry.

    Things I liked:

The graphics were excellent and the splash effect when you land jumps was really satisfying.

The randomized layout made this really replayable.

    Things I didn't like:

It felt a bit empty, perhaps another mechanic would be good for replayablility or maybe an enemy that follows you around slowly to emphasise the need to remember the map layout.

-There wasn't much content to comment on, but I'm impressed you did this in 12 hours.

Originally I was gonna add some powerups, I coded one that you could pick up to gain extra jumps, but in the end I scrapped them because I didn't want to spend a lot of time on this game xD

The graphical effects look good and are fascinating. The music is also really nice. The game has overall a great feeling because of the art.

The gameplay and mechanics are fun. The labyrinths are varying (random generated, I guess?) so the game stays interesting. It feels that it is kind of random (based on the labyrinths) how far you get, and that chips down the motivation after a few runs.

As Anonymous pointed out, the game is not very related to the theme. But overall the game is great for ~12 hours.

By the way, If I may ask, did you use some additional tools over GameMaker? And how did you make those graphical effects? It'd have been really interesting to take a look at the project code :)

Thanks for playing! It's a very randomly generated game so it is mostly up to luck, though I found that if you use the 3 jumps strategically you can get pretty far.

The graphics are a combination of surfaces for the paint, and the built-in twist distort layer effect.

This is a fun game, but there wasn't any plot and no variation in the gameplay. Also, I can't see how it fit the theme at all? Like, sure there was no violence, but there wasn't the idea of no violence either.
