Yeah... it's an interesting idea, but you should really explain the rules of the langton's ant somewhere in the game. It's not even that complicated, and you could even have made a simple interactive tutorial to help understand it.
I like how it made music while drawing though
Veralos Level 33
It's a very interesting concept, but it feels way too difficult to predict to make for any satisfying puzzles. The first few levels can be brute forced pretty easily but once you get to level 5 it seems almost impossible. The game also doesn't do a very good job of explaining Langton's Ant for people who are unfamiliar.
I think the game could potentially be improved by having smaller, more carefully designed levels (rather than always being a square). Slowing down the ant (or even letting the player move it one step at a time) could also make solving puzzles more reasonable.
Kwisarts Level 54
The game is pretty confusing. I had no idea if I was doing right or wrong. Whatever I made for shapes, it didn't feel like it made a difference. Same for endless modde.
It would have been really nice to have a tutorial because I really didn't feel like I could control anything...
Problematicar Level 36
This could've been a really good idea, the concept is interesting, but you ultimately fail to make it shine through the game design. A tutorial would've been really good for the game, but even after that the levels could use some more polish to make it easier to have fun with the idea.
Furiiku Level 11
Really neat to make a game concept around Langtons ant, that being said as a game it was a bit unpredictable.
C0DERP1GLET Level 28
I searched for what Langtons ant was and became very fascinated. I also played the endless mode twice just to see how random it looks. I don't think the gameplay wad fun (I only got to the fifth level) but I and most other programmer love math.
BTW how is this related to "one shot"?
Chaos Level 3
I have known about Langton's ant before, but even with this, i can't get further than 5th level. When i opened up the game 1'st time i thought that you have to fill all the grey squares, and only after a few attemps i finally realised that you have to guide the ant to green spot. Maybe you can make game simplier and a bit slower and maybe add some guide what to do. Also i think that even if you will make the game simplier, it's still will be annoying. Langton's ant is hard to control, especially when he moves that fast. You just can't predict where he will go. It's good math project, but it's too unpredictable to be a puzzle game.
Henry Haak Level 25
Before playing this game I didn't know what Langdon's Ant was, and after playing for a minute looked it up on Wikipedia since I had no idea what it was. Now that I understand it, I think the idea for this game is really cool, but as someone who knows nothing about it it does a terrible job to explain to me the rules of the game. Even knowing the rules, it still feels quite arbitrary, and ends with me just picking random shapes and trying them. I'm sure if someone understood the ins and outs of the game and all of the implications it would be a fun puzzle game, but for an outsider it's a rather tedious game of trial and error. I would love to see more puzzle games about cellular automata though, and if you decide to continue work on this game with a proper teaching of mechanics I think it could be super cool.
