3Tris is a mashup of Tetris and Match-3 rules, where the pieces come down from the top and can be rotated and positioned by using WASD (and spacebar to speed up). The twist that makes the colors important is that the mouse is a 2-block cursor that swaps block positions. The only way to clear blocks is to make match-3 combos by moving the blocks around after they touchdown. The blocks can only be swapped with another block, so positioning them is important to keep things connected to be able to make the match combos. Right click rotates the cursor between vertical and horizontal position. Gameover is when the board is too full for a new piece to be created. Points are based on matches and level reached, the level effects the piece fall speed and the potential amount of colors in play.

Neat twist on Tetris! I included it in my GM48: Colors are Important compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/VmlMQ0caULs

Very awesome tetris and match 3 hybrid. I liked how you add new colors as you progress through the game. Game felt solid and I liked the spacey music. My best score was 320 points. The only thing that bugged me was that I kept trying to press the 'S' key to drop the piece.

I really enjoyed this! I liked having the dual responsibilities: on ehand essentially playing Tetris, the other doing a weird Match-3, slider puzzle type thing in between pieces dropping.

Since any color block can be slid (with enough clicks) to anywhere there's a solid path of blocks, I feel like a pretty deep strategy of where to drop pieces would emerge after playing for a while.

    I'm impressed, good job!

I thought about only including 3 block size shapes to try to help keep the player from leaving singles around, but I like that became a big part of the game play, making the matches to the top or the edge becomes more important than in the middle, and then placement of the blocks would sometimes defy tetris logic so that it could connect outer pieces together rather than focusing on filling lines. Thanks for playing!

The music was really good, and whilst it took me a moment to get my head around (i'm really bad a tetris) I got sucked in pretty quickly. Some very clever interlocking mechanics. I could see this being developed into a mobile game with a few different game modes. For example, having hte blocks fall with gravity when there's nothing below them might make for some satisfying combos. A very nice, polished entry. Great job!

Thanks! I messed with having the blocks fall a little, but ran into issues deciding how many pieces would fall if disconnected, like 2 blocks, 5 blocks? and how to tell if a match 3 is made down in the middle to quickly figure out how all of the blocks above would fall? There's definitely a few ways the rules could effect it, I like your idea of making different modes, instead of just trying it one way. Thanks for the feedback!

My highscore is 482 and don't know if this is considered good :D I really liked playing this game, it was clever and fun. The two familiar game-types (tetris and match-3) make sure you know how to play this game in general, but the good tactics for making rows come with experience of each run.

    Keep up the awesome work!

I like this fusion of two already known games. My highscore was 463 :D

If I have to complain about one thing, it would be the color palette, which didn't look very pleasing to the eye.

Good luck with the game, Joe! :3

Thank you! As a color blind person I definitely have trouble finding complementary colors, for most of these I just used the built-in image blend = c_red, c_green, c_aqua, c_yellow, etc. I need to spend some time finding some basic colors that work well together and just get their HSV's and have them handy for jams like this.

This is a very interesting mash up of color matching and Tetris! I think with some refinement this could actually turn into a whole new genre worthy of match-3.

    Quite creative, nice work!

Thanks! yeah, there's definitely some more to work on, I wanted to add special things for match-4 and match-5 and maybe something to cause singles/doubles to fall down if left hanging, but I am pretty pleased with where it ended up for a jam version.
