Move across an endless randomly generated board, Making choices and engaging in rock-paper-scissors card battles, all while managing your health and tiredness meters.

The game has no tutorial. Reading the following section is highly advised. CONTROLS alt + enter - fullscreen Use the arrow keys or WSAD to move in the overworld. Use the arrow keys or WSAD to navigate overworld menus, and SPACE or ENTER to select. Use the mouse in card battles. click on a card to select it then click on the target zone.

HOW TO PLAY
Upon starting the game, a new run will begin. Something to note is that the game is endless, and does not have a specific win condition. Simply try and go as far as you can!

THE OVERWORLD
You will begin in the overworld, on a new randomly generated board.
Imgur
Make note of the different stats shown at the top left corner. Health - Don't let it fall to 0! Stay at inns to heal. SLP - Sleepiness. if it gets to 100 you will be forced to take quite an uncomfortable nap. Stay at inns to restore it. $ - Money. Important as it is needed to stay at Inns, the only way of healing and fully restoring your sleepiness.
Use the arrow keys to move across the overworld. (But remember, no backtracking!) You may encounter different points of interest during your travels. These will pop up a text box telling you what they do, and ask if you would like to use them. Every time you move you have a chance of encountering an enemy! These encounters will take you to the battle board, where you face off in a rock-paper-scissors-card battle!
BATTLES
Upon the start of a battle, you will be send to the battle board.
Imgur
The board has two sides, one for you and one for the enemy. Each side has 3 rows, where cards can be placed. At the start of the battle, you are both given 3 cards on your side of the board. To win the battle, cards must be used to attack empty rows to damage your opponent. The battle starts as your turn. ATTACKING To attack an enemy card, click on one of yours to select it, then click on an opposing card, or vacant card space to directly attack the enemy. Attacking with a card destroys it. Following the rock-paper-scissors format, attacks can be super effective or ineffective.
-Super effective attacks. - destroy the opposing card and hit the enemy for bonus damage. -Regular attacks (duplicates). - destroys the opposing card. -ineffective. - does nothing but destroy the attacking card.
As cards are used up when attacking, you will need to draw more cards. Press the DRAW button on the right to add cards to your draw pile.
Imgur
Drawing cards has a price however, as each draw costs 5 SLP. Be careful to only draw what you need to win! Clicking on cards in the draw pile then clicking on an empty space on your board allows you to place them. Note that placed cards cannot be used until the next turn.
After you are done, press the END TURN button. The enemy will then have their turn. This cycle will repeat until you win or your HP hits 0. Like cards, enimies have types too. The color and sign on their side of the board shows what attacks they resist and are weak to.

KNOWN BUGS ahem- i mean uh- features!
-You can enter caves and dungeons multiple times. (not super unbalenced since you need to win the fight to get the money.) -Sometimes opponents stack cards when placing new ones. (no idea what effect this has on gameplay i just saw it happen a few times.)
Thats all you need to know about Side Quest! Happy questing!

I enjoyed the game a lot! It was a bit difficult to understand what I'm supposed to be doing, but I think i was able to understand a little... a tutorial would have been cool!

I enjoyed the sound design, it was done well, and in general I like the feel of the game

I like games with novel but friendly mechanisms, and it was a game of that kind! The combat system was easy to understand, and the art and the sound were wonderful! I think it would be greater if it includes more ways to manipulate luck so I can try various tactics.

Thank you for the great game!

I really liked the music in this game! Gameplaywise, I didn't really know what I was doing, but it was fun reading the different encounters!

Interesting concept, but the sleep balance seems a little off as it is. I also wish the side effect part was also present in the card battles.

Now, it's not technically the game, but since it doesn't have in game tutorial: I think you could simplify the description a lot more. There's a lot of text and it's a little confusion, but the game really isn't that complicated. Also make sure to space you text more. Everything is in the same paragraph, I'm guessing because you need to add spaces in markdown.

And I'm again not sure how people use sounds, but my windows volume is a 40% and I had to put the game's volume at like 3 or 4% so that it could be bearable.

I'm still not sure how the SLP system was supposed to work, but it was fun to play. The music was great!

This game uses the jam's theme in an interesting way, making you manage risk and reward if you want to progress further. The card game part is fun (if a little buggy), though I kind of wish it incorporated side effects more as well. Maybe the player could also have an element like the enemy, which changes depending on the card they sent to attack last? The graphics are very appealing, and a catchy soundtrack (especially the battle theme) ties the game together. Overall, this was really fun! It's pretty challenging to get far while managing your health and sleep, too.

Very cool! I like the effort and thought that went into this. It has the beginning of some cool complexity, and I'd love to see it fully realized. The actual battling mechanic gets old after the first few times, but it's good for a jam game.

I like the concept and the battle system you've got going on here, I think there's a lot of saying without showing which can be a bit confusing but the overall gameplay once you're past that is entertaining and fun :)

Neat game! I included it in my GM48 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/gQOVaoF4Jeg

I really like the presentation of travelling along a map, responding to event prompts, and managing the encounter battle system. Big respect for doing setting up a turn based system in a 48 hour jam setting!

The game is put together well. I think it'd be cool if the map had occasional branching paths so that there were more to travelling than just moving on to the next space.

It seemed like sometimes, upon pressing the End Turn button, some of my cards would randomly disappear on occasion? Even when the enemy had no cards of their own, meaning they couldn't attack and destroy my cards. They'd just kinda vanish.

Fun game with intuitive and easy to understand rules. It works well having the individual buildings along the way making you pick strategically between two options

A game with an interesting concept, with managing all those stats and stuff, but it quickly became confusing to me, even after coming back to the description and reading it. Sometimes I throw a card that's effective on the other and it says "Uneffective"? Maybe it's because of the opponent's type but still it should AT LEAST deal some damage right? Not to mention sometimes some of my cards simply vanish out of thin air, not sure if this was intentional but it gets really frustrating when you don't even know why that happened. Also sometimes the opponent just places all its cards on one place and I'm pretty sure that wasn't supposed to happen either. Well at least I gotta say the art is pretty good.

Had a lot of fun with this, I love simple card games where it's more about playing smart than being overly complex! I'd definitely spend hours on a final polished version no doubt. The SLP balance was a bit off, sometimes the side effects ended up benefiting me (gaining XP and HP? heck yea my dude I'll have that!) and I came across a couple bugs, but overall I loved the artstyle, I love that it has RNG, and I love that it's easy to understand without much instruction at all!

Like the game. I maxed out my sleepiness quite often in battles, would be nice if you got a card at the end of a turn, it takes a bit too fast to lose slp.

A lot of potential with this one. I see what you were going for. I love the anime Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor season 1 and this game reminded me of that.

Cool card game, everyone knows the basics of how the cards interact! I maxed out my slp many times, I couldn't tell if I was playing wrong or not. Would have been nice to draw 1 on End turn or some other mechinc to help not rely on using all slp.

Unique, a bit buggy or maybe I just didn't understand why my cards sometimes randomly vanished, but overall decently polished. Good enough graphics. The music fit well but was a bit harsh. As far as theme, the "side effects" were actually more tradeoffs instead in this case.
