The legend of La Llorona tells us the story of Maria, who drowns her children in a river as a means of revenge because her husband left her for a younger woman. She drowns herself in the river when she realizes what she has done. After she is challenged at the gates of heaven over the whereabouts of her children, she is not permitted to enter the afterlife until she has found them. Maria is forced to wander the Earth for all eternity, searching in vain for her drowned offspring, caught between the world of the dead and the living.

Very interesting story! I included it in my GM48: Sacrifice compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/owM22-wcZP4

I managed to save 6 children.

The atmosphere in this is very well done. The visuals and the music work very well to create a spooky tone. I wish there were some more sound effects, though.

The gameplay is pretty interesting, too. I like the trade-off you have to make between saving children and giving yourself time to escape. Unfortunately, the platforming can be a little awkward, especially considering you can sometimes get stuck in the ground when landing.

Difficulty was just hard enough to be fun but not frustrating, even though a progress meter to know how far you are from the end would've been nice.

The idea is pretty cool, and you executed it well, the art could be better, same as the sound, that gets annoying pretty quickly.

Overall still a fun game tho.

A progress bar is a great idea! A lot of people have pointed out not knowing how much farther they had to go was tough. I wonder if it adds to the "horror" factor by leaving that unknown. Thanks for the feedback.

She's a bit too hard to outrun, the problem being that the platforming is a tad clumsy; got myself unable to jump on time at some point and for a game focusing on jumps, you should have a variable jump height. I even got stuck in a jump because of the level design... and no way to backtrack since she's right behind you :o

It got me hooked enough to play several times and try and get to the end! It's an interesting idea and something that I think could be expanded on!

The music added to the atmosphere but felt repetitive pretty quickly. Sounds for when you're almost going to be caught would be pretty cool!

The hard part was not knowing when the level would end. I sacrificed all 50 babies and still couldn't outrun her, made me wonder how possible it actually was

Ha! It's definitely possible to beat, but it's really difficult. I'll be releasing an updated version with better collision and controller support once the voting has ended.

Thanks for playing and the feedback!

Hey good job on this game, I had fun playing it and liked the spooky atmosphere you created with the music and fog effects.

It felt like my character may have gotten stuck after a few long falls onto the ground and then was slow to jump again, I am not sure why though.

Overall it was cool and I played a couple times before making it to the wooded part but unfortunately I never could outrun her!

    Nice work!

Thanks for the feedback. I couldn't figure out that pesky bug before release but I'm pretty sure it has to do with unchecked speed increasing beyond the breaking point. Glad you enjoyed it!
