The source is also included in the game's zip.
(I want to apologize for the size of the ZIP being so large. I didn't expect that. I wanted to take the source out of it, but it's too late... oh well. Thank you all for dealing with the file size!)
Armed with your harpoon, find your way down the abyss to claim the treasure below as your own! Look out for the fish, or you'll be sleeping with them. There are four upgrades along the way that will help you finish this task. You'll also need to collect air from barrels as you dive deeper, or else you'll drown. Be brave and the treasure will be yours!
CONTROLS:
A, S, W, D: Move
Mouse: Aim
Left Mouse Button: Fire Harpoon
F12: Restart
Escape (hold): Quit
Game features 3 stages, from the surface to the bottom of the ocean. There are several types of fish to watch out for, including squid, jellyfish, and sea turtles. Over 20 levels of harpoonin' action!
Note: The game starts and stays in fullscreen. If you click something as it loads, it may not load up properly. If you get a blank white screen, hold escape and open the game again.
Another Note: I used one shader from KeeVee games. Other than that, I created everything.
I feel like I did a good job, having limited time. I didn't get to add everything I wanted to, but I'm satisfied with the end result.
I really wanted to make a giant squid as the final boss, but I didn't have enough time so... yeah. No final boss, I really wish I had more time. I would have also added checkpoints, to make it less of a nightmare when you die.
If you want to know a bit more about the game, damage is dealt based on the speed of getting hit. Faster enemies, you take more damage. Faster harpoons, they take more damage. It all adds up. So an enemy that hits the wall and bounces back at you hurts your more than if you just swam into it.
The player and enemies also have two vectors that determine position: the built in speed/direction, and then two other component variables. That way you can get knocked back without changing the way you swim. Pretty neat, huh?
You can learn more about the inner workings of the game by taking a look at the source.

Controls felt well done. Liked the number of levels and enemies. Seems like I could bypass most enemies. Maybe make some sort of gate that would require all enemies to be defeated in a room. A map would be nice, but I understand there's only so much that can be done in a 48 hour game jam.

Exiting game was hard, no progress keeping (some form of not complete redo would be nice) Still fun game, lot of content.

Really impressive :o thanks for including the source files!
There's one little thing that bothered me: I loved using the harpoon, but the further I went the less I used it. Fishes bouncing back were too dangerous (it's a great idea though!), and the occasional loot was not worth breaking their pattern.

Oh this is one of my favorite games of the jam! (or dare I say my favorite?) Great polish, Nice gaming feel, super great difficulty balance. I love how as you progress things get darker and black & white too :) The harpoon was pretty cool to use and despite the simple sound effects it was on point! Not an incredible music but it really is pretty great! Also I love how you can get very welcome upgrades. :) Would have wished for a checkpoint as I didn't feel like restarting though...
Thanks for including the project file, as a beginner I really want to see what the code looks like :) Pretty solid entry!

One of my favorite games from this Jam, the art is cohesive and nice to look at. The enemy variety was well paced which made it into a real game. I wish their was a checkpoints, when I died at an angler fish it was a bit frustrating, but I decided to persevere and complete it! Mostly because the mechanic and design warranted replay. Excellent work!

This game felt awesome! Tweening and Polish were at an all time high, and everything was really really smooth, I think this is the only 10 in stability I'm going to give in the whole jam.
Art was really good, same as the sound, some sound effects were actually great (When the harpoon comes back, oh that sounds cool)
Gameplay was incredibly balanced, the difficulty curve was also pretty good, same as the level design. The only problem is the lack of checkpoints, and how the barrels/healtpacks are distributed, there are some parts with way too many and some parts that'd definitely need more.
Also, when you gave me a ton of stuff in the end I though it was to prepare me for a boss, but I just got a treasure, way to go, you set my hype too high T_T
But yeah, this game was awesome, and I can safely say it's one of the best in the jam (I basically played all the games already)

Thank you! I'm really glad you liked it!
Yeah I would agree. If I had a little bit more time, I would have added in checkpoints and a final boss. I really wished I could have! The music in the final room was supposed to be boss music too :(

Game looks, plays and feels smooth. I really love it. The harpoon mechanic and the bounciness of enemies feels great. Sound effects were quite funny.
I didn't reach the end, but it is a fun game. I think this is one of the best games so far.

Really nice game. The graphics look great, though the background is a bit bland. The audio is also good. All the game mechanics are interesting, especially the harpoon. I like that you can find upgrades. I feel like there should be checkpoints though, because it seems to be relatively long (I couldn't make it to the end).

I agree. I wanted to add checkpoints every 10 levels when the color scheme changes, but I didn't have enough time. Same with the background. Thank you!

Holy crap that was fun! The graphics and sounds were super good and the level of polish is amazing! The fish bouncing of walls is great because it keeps you moving. Although i always forgot to move after i shot haha! And shooting, that was the best part. The harpoon really felt fun to use and the reeling sound effects were super satisfying. I didnt get to the bottom but I'm going to try to later. Great job!

The art of the game looks really good. I really like the small water effects and rippling effect. The harpoon mechanic is a great idea. I even killed a fish by pulling the harpoon back :P

Thanks! I do really like the harpoon as well. I personally like how it knocks enemies around, I think it makes the game more interesting than if it just hit them and came straight back.

Love the game. Great idea, mechanics, graphics, sound and difficulty. Would love to be able to go back to previous rooms since I ended up missing the oxygen tank upgrade. I would also speed up the harpoon recovery time when not hitting anything. It took a really long time so I always tried to aim the harpoon so it would hit a wall after my target for faster reload. I could not exit the game by escape but not really an issue. Great job and one of my favorite games so far!

I discovered this after I submitted, but escape has to be held to close the game. Anyways, I think the harpoon does take too long to come back, I agree, but most of the rooms are small enough that it can't always reach its full length. Thank you!
