Randomon is a monster-collecting game in which you take photographs of more than half a million procedurally-generated monsters.

Appease an old man that is really just confused why a woman keeps barreling into his home asking for camera film.

And "fill up" your Randex which keeps track of every monster you've successfully photographed.

How to play: In the overworld screens, look for and click jiggling grass. It contains a Randomon! When zoomed in, take a photo of the Randomon when it leaves the safety of grass and exposes itself! You will return to an old man's house when you run out of film. He will boot you to a new location to take more photos of more Randomon. More!

Credits Allison James made the game and has carpal tunnel from the hours and hours of data input and artwork, bless her heart. She is sick of this stupid game

I like seeing the random monsters but I didn't like waiting for them to pop out. I think it might've been cool if you could take the little monsters, breed them and sell them, creating stranger monsters. Anyway, nice because I captured an ugly looking dog that looked like my own.

I've had a great time with this game. The algorythm, surprisingly enough, manages to come up with creatures that will keep me up at night.

102138 is a being of nightmares.

A cool thing I noticed was how your monsters are sorted by color in the randex. Made it very pleasant to scroll through them all!

The first line was hillarious. The game overall is harrarious. It also feels quite polished, although lacks a bit of variation (no, not that kind of variation).

I think my collection may still be a bit shy of 524,288 but I got a bunch of them!

It was a lot of fun to see what kind of funny creatures the system produces but there wasn't much else to the game it seems. Laughed out loud multiple times!

My favourite Randomon is Poos Sock.

This feedback has been randomly generated.

Stick command sunshine frozen meadow illusion ballet seal trail report game is fun and unique, although surprisingly light on content despite the half million mons to collect. But that's not really an issue when you choose to focus on one strength and do it well. The mons are charming, and definitely random. Seaeepfire, my favorite randomon, looked like a fat pug. I'd give the game a score of 487.21348281, at least according to my random number generator. Not sure what the upper limit of that scoring metric is, though. Too many fishes with legs. 7/10

I love that you just went full on with this idea. 64 heads and bodies is WAY TOO MANY??
Being able to move but not "activate" the fights by getting near the grass is a little weird and for some reason it took me a few tries to realise I just needed to click on it :D I really liked the "captured" jingle. Also the bees & mosquitos bodies make for kinda scary randomons. And idk why but the water/water randomons are just the best. I got one that was just a bubble, it was amazing.

Also.. do different types of bodies/head unlock after a few levels? I think I did one and a half "loop", and I've seen way more new stuff after the start of the second loop. But since it's random, it might just be chance 😅

Super creative! The transitions and UI elements worked perfectly to make it feel right. It got a little repetitive, I wish there were some fail state or choices I get to make. As in there is only one right answer, click on x number of monsters. But I also get that game jams games are best when they focus on one main element, and your monster generation idea was super fun.

It's so fun to recognize your style. You have a real talent for fun game design. I became a fan after Get Your Hands Off My Banana and somehow you made another game that is exciting to do.

I've seen it mentioned in another comment too but I was really sad when I pressed escape to get out of my randex and the game closed :'(( but I know how it goes with gamejams haha.

also 524,288 is a hilarious number.

      Thank you very much! 😄

The game does save your caught Randomon and current level, so if you reload the game, you can continue at the start of that level with everything collected and intact.

I do regret not doubling the number to take it over a million, but yeah! 64 possible heads, 64 bodies, and 128 different elements/name prefixes/suffixes 😅

Really fun and silly. I kinda wanted to play for longer than I did, but your game just closed instantly when I pressed escape to pause it. (>ლ)

I'm quite surprised you only made 524,228, that's really not that many, I think you should have pushed for 524,229! 😂

In all seriousness, this is a hilarious, cutesy game with a fun take on procedural generation. I think the unsettling Professor Toke, in between flashing people in public, will put Professor Oak to shame! It's a fun ditty and it's got your signature style all over it - a great entry! :)

Cool idea! Definitely impressive to have pulled this off, but I will say, after the first few rounds, the game is pretty repetitive. I don't think I could've figured out how to do this in just a weekend, so great job!

      Thank you!

How I pulled it off is also why the game is fairly repetitive - too much time doing the monster generation, not enough filling out gameplay 😅

If it's of interest how the game works at base level - each monster chooses an animal head out of 64 choices, an animal body out of 64 choices, and a name alteration out of 128 choices, which also acts as its type and element indicator. 64x64x128 gives the 524,288 possible unique monsters!

Great core loop. The feedback when you snap a Randomon is so rewarding! Really nice take on two of the challenges and a fun interpretation on the theme. I really worry about what kind of "medication" Prof. Toke wants me to bring him...

A really well done entry to be honest! Game play is silly and repetitive, but the silly monsters and music makes it fun for awhile. Also getting roasted by the prof.

I feel like maybe anti aliasing is on unnecessarily on the monsters? Not sure, but they had weird bleeding of colors.

      Thanks for playing!

Agreed on the antialiasing, but by the time I'd settled on resolution I'd already made all the art and it had taken too long to spend more time refactoring everything xD

This is a really cool game. It fits the discovery theme really well and has great sound, music and textures. I also love that all the creatures are random.
