It's Halloween night and something spooky is happening. Ghosts and gouls are risen from the dead, things move on their own, a toxic atmosphere pools all about. But you don't have time to figure out why. Grandma is all alone and needs company!
Well, your grandma is the most important thing to find, you can also collect other goodies like candy and costumes along the way. Grab up a lot of candy to share for a Halloween feast, and wear the costumes as you find them!
There are eight costumes to find!
Use the arrow keys or WASD to move around. Gamepad is supported as well! You can even toggle what tooltips you see in-game, keyboard or gamepad, in the options menu.
- M or Select opens up a minimap to help you figure out where to explore next.
- Costumes are hidden in the form of small twinkling lights. Wear them by opening the pause menu!
- You can drop down through thin platforms by tapping downward.
- The townsfolk are willing to help, talk to them to learn new skills!
- Use checkpoints by touching the floating green orbs. They refill your health too!

Loved the aesthetics and the animations. Super polished given the constraints. I wish there were some more unique mechanics though. Either way great work.

The art of this game is so fun. I love the aesthetic. The filter you have on it is so perfect and not too much that I find it distracting or headache inducing. Gives a really nice warm halloween feeling. The music also pairs with this perfectly. Awesome and spooky! I just really love the art and animations. It's so polished and distinct. Really can't overstate how warm and welcoming and just plain fun the art/animations are. I really love it. Controls also felt nice and I liked finding new power ups.

As the gm48 king of metroidvanias, nice job!
I can see where the time restantins really hit you hard. Missing sprites for breakable walls, the wall jump having too much horizontal speed but almost no vertical.
That all being said, the amount of cool things you stuffed in here is great, and I was pretty impressed.
Also you used a lot of the code you made for the gm48 resources page didn’t you lol

Good eye! Every single resource that I've posted to GM48 is present in this project, haha. Partly because I find them useful, but also partly to make sure that they are actually useable in a game jam context.
I actually found a huge flaw in one resource midway through the jam and had to quickly change it on the resource page to make sure nobody encountered the same issue.

This is so cool! Having the collectibles be full new costumes is so overkill for a jam game :D
Like Tydecon Games, the lack of polish in certains aspects is weird, but mainly because most of the game is that impressive.
I just wish there was a way to keep exploring after finding grandma, because I think I missed a zone in the center of the map. (I then tried loading a save from the start of the game, and it crashed 😬)SubmittedBeyond The Window

Wow! Incredible that this was done in such a short time, it looks and sounds amazing. I love Halloween and this definitely gave me some good vibes!
The idea of changing costumes was a lot of fun. Hope to see more of your games in the future!

A really comprehensive metroidvania including unlocked abilities and costumes. It's honestly very impressive what you achieved with multiple enemy types, characters with dialogue, an expansive map and a nice range of animations that felt really nice. It's perfect for the spooky season and wish the theme of the jam was more like that. You should be really happy with that output.

I thought it looked visually pretty good (did you put together a whole skeleton system in a game jam?) but wasn't sure how much it actually fit the discovery theme aside from being a metroidvania. I liked the characters a lot, though.

This was a really fun entry and I'm impressed with the game-pad support and the different areas and places to explore. I find the pixel art beautiful though I find it odd that there's so much effort in some areas and then the breakable wall and bullets were just solid orange blocks? I don't know if the time limit prevented some further brushing up on the art in some areas.
I found the platforming floaty with a little lag in the shooting, though I imagine that's by design and it did add a little challenge to the whole experience, which I enjoyed. And the costumes idea is great fun, especially sticking with the halloween theme! And the spine animations are quirky and fun.
Overall, this is a great entry and I enjoyed playing! :)SubmittedDisc Recovery

Thanks for playing! The delay and freeze when you shoot was indeed supposed to add a bit of challenge to the combat, which felt too easy without it. There were probably better ways to tweak that, but it's what we went with.
We were sorta tossing ideas all around constantly throughout development so a couple things got left without art, partly due to some lack of communication on my end. Originally, the player was gonna use the candy they collect as ammunition and throw candy for their attack, but when it was implemented into the game, it felt limiting and soft-locky. Changing that, and leaving the projectile as a candy sprite, then became confusing. So thus it just uses a basic image to show the projectile. But I'm very happy with the artwork that SpritePainter created, especially the tiling platforms and stuff.

There was a lot of fun stuff here! It was really well put together overall and a solid platformer for 48 hours. LIke some others have mentioned, I found the wall jumping to be a bit awkward, but overall I thought it was all pretty polished. The moving platforms especially looked really cool, I thought. I did think it would have been nice if the candy stuck around for a bit longer to give you a better chance of picking it up, especially since some of the pieces go flying super far.

This Game surprised me with its Content, Costume Party packs a lot for a GameJam-Game. There are several Mechanics to find which all are fun to use. It nails the Theme of Discovery with the Costumes and Movement upgrades pretty well. Playing it was a fun experience and even supports xbox Controllers (which i tested and it works). The Sprites look good and are even animated. Even tho i could not vibe with the Music, in the setting it made perfect sense. The only thing that i could complain about was that the Player looks a little goofy when you execute the Dash ability on the Ground.

This was hella fun and perfect themed with halloween. Great job!
Feedback:
- Some checkpoint a bit far
- Did the costumes have any effect (or just purely visual?)
- Freaking loved the music and art style
- Shared 8 candy with grandma yay!

Thank you for playing! The costumes are just visual flair for fun, and to give the player an additional thing to discover. Originally you were gonna need to collect at least one costume to trick or treat with grandma, but it felt like more of an optional feature than something that should be required.

Nice animations and mobs! i really enjoyed the style, the wall climbing was a pain though. I didn't feel much discovery but I did feel a lot of immersion!

Thanks for the feedback. I agree the wall climbing could have been done a bit better in general, but there is a trick to wall climbing that makes it a bit easier. You can jump off the wall and dash into it to climb one side of a wall consistently. Felt like I should leave that in, even if it trivializes some climbs, just so that people who discover it can have an easier time getting through.

Solid game, really impressed with the costumes. How did you animate them?

Thanks! The animations were mostly made with Spine. This makes it possible to swap skins at runtime without having to redraw every frame of animation manually for each version.

Very well done! I couldn't figure out how to change costumes though!
Still, the amount of features and how nice it felt was crazy for a game jam. Very hollow knight vibe which is what I assume you were going for, and pulled off really good feel for such a short period.

Thank you for playing! Indeed we were trying to go for a metroidvania-style exploration game, along the same vein as hollow knight, so that's good to hear.
As for costumes, when you collect a costume, a button in the pause menu appears that says "Costume: base". If you click on it, it'll cycle between the different costumes you selected.

Really solid entry. Great work to pull this off with just 48 hours. The animations and costumes were great. The wall jumping was a little weird, but I finally found a way to make it work.
