I remember when this whole city used to be just open fields, far as the eye could see. What a lovely time that was. But then they started putting up all these buildings! Urgh! Not on my watch! I want to live in a world where there are no buildings, so I will build that world myself... BY FORCE!

I've updated this game and made it play-in-browser now, check it out here:

In Game:
<WASD/ARROWS> to move around
<MOUSE> to aim and fire
A lot of people are telling me the tank controls are inverted to what they're used to, just something to bear in mind. I'll be adding an option to invert controls in the post jam update.

Menu:
<WASD/ARROWS> to navigate
<SPACE/ENTER> to select

  • Tank based movement is a bit tricky to get feeling juuuust right within the time limit, occasionally you might get stuck. I've done what I can to make sure this doesn't happen... much! But it might. If it's any consolation, the police tanks are more likely to get stuck than yours, use this to your advantage! 😅
  • Scrolling too far left off the menu can crash it, this doesn't affect gameplay but, y'know, don't go too far left!

The story behind this game is actually really good

Pretty cool game, but I had quite the difficult time with it. I think it all stems from the controls, which I'm sure you're fully aware of. I think them being reversed wouldn't be as big of an issue if shooting and colliding with walls didn't instantly change your direction. All intentions to move precisely kinda flew out the window and I was just mashing in the hopes I could get to the next screen before dying. Everything else is nice as usual :)

Thanks for playing and I'm glad you enjoyed it, controls aside. I was going for a sort of toy tank vibe with the controls where you get thrown around a bit by it all but I certainly need to balance and brush this up a bit to get the it feeling a bit more comfortable 😅

The art, sound, and general story of this game are really good, and certainly kept me invested for the time I played it. The one thing (and I'm sure you know this by now) holding the game back was the controls. The way the game played made me feel like I had very little control over the tank's position. Besides the steering being backwards, which felt strange, the fact that bouncing off of things and shooting also altered your direction of travel meant that any attempt to use the A/D keys to steer was effectively pointless. It took far longer to figure out what direction those buttons would end up turning me in the chaos of the game, and god forbid you bounce off of anything because you'll have no idea what direction you're going once that happens. If the recoil and bouncing systems were separate movement- that is, they didn't affect the angle your treads were at- that would seriously help the feel of the game. I feel like, with time, I could get past the steering of the tank feeling backwards, but the fact that the direction I'm moving isn't always the way I left it last really hampered my enjoyment of the game. Besides that, clearing buildings just ends up being rather tedious. At some point there's enough cops on screen that shooting them basically does nothing, and you end up just firing directly at the buildings, slowly chipping them down to get to the next stage.

Still, I did really enjoy the aesthetic, and I can tell you spent a lot of time working on making the visuals cohesive. The sonic-esque screen wipes and bouncy menu help set the game apart and make it feel like a finished product. I just feel like the gameplay could have used some additional time in the early design phases and the game would be a really excellent entry.

Thank you for playing and for your honesty, I hope, controls aside, you still got some enjoyment from this. I've not had a lot of experience with tank controls so I think in trying to make them more accessible to myself as an outsider from that perspective, it got in the way more than anything and it's certainly something I'll be fixing post jam but as I've said, that aside I hope you still enjoyed it :)

As other have pointed out, the controls felt a little bit strange, and I found it kind of disorienting trying to figure out which direction I was facing any time that I bounced into something. I do really like the concept, the art and music were great, and it's a lot of fun to just drive around unleashing mayhem. Great work!

This was a pretty cool game! I really liked the concept, unfortunately, I'm bad at tank controls at the best of times haha. Still really enjoyable, even if my play was a little chaotic. Nice job!

oh look, is that live video recording of a rampaging grannie? https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1803296797?t=01h19m38s

I wonder if anyone would want to watch that?

over all, I love the game and hate the controls.

Ghaaah, why are the rotation controls inverted?!? Makes the required multitasking so much harder, and not in a good way. Particularly with direction reversing on contact with anything. Other than that the game's not too shabby.

Thanks for playing, I'm definitely going to add an option to change the controls in the post jam update 😅 I hope it didn't get in the way of you enjoying the game all the same

Very nice concept! I think the controls could have had an inverted option, but very clean in presentation. Additionally, I'm not quite sure firing changing direction or being shot instantly snapping in direction is the way to go? It may have been smoother if it was incremental rotations. Fun to play regardless!

Thanks for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Inverted controls is definitely something I will be adding post-jam haha and yeah, I see what you mean, I thought it might feel more natural but it is a bit tricky to get the hang of 😅

I don't like how readily the tank changes direction in this, and the controls are reversed from what I'd expect. Also, you can't run over cars.

That's all I can do with this one though - nitpick - because as per usual, you've kinda knocked it out of the park with it 😆 Supreme levels of polish, pretty graphics with a lot of variety, fitting music and SFX, clear controls, everything's just superbly done here. Evocative of GTA1 😄

haha I'm sensing a theme from the feedback that my control system is definitely going to hold me back this time around 😅 maybe I should've added an option to reverse the controls, should've would've could've and all that 😂 but I hope that didn't get in the way of enjoying the game! Thanks for playing! 😊

Loved the concept! Unfortunately the controls were a bit frustrating, but I really liked everything else! I like your take on the theme

Tydecon and old ladies name a more iconic duo. This one felt super polished. I really liked all the audio/visual feedback and little details like the cops flipping around. Controlling the tank felt super odd, the combo of changing the direction on firing and having inversed steering made it a bit of a struggle. Didn't stop me from razing 30 evil evil buildings to the ground.

Thanks so much for playing, glad you liked it! Old ladies are certainly becoming an ongoing meta for me I think 😅 getting the controls right was a tricky one, I was trying to go for a "toy tank" kind of control system and thought it might feel more natural to automatically face the way you fire but it's a tough one to balance, glad you still took down some of those evil, evil buildings haha!

this is the best game released in this jam(in my opinion).
