CONTROLS:
movement - WASD
sparks - Lmb
dash - shift
fireball - Rmb
ghost form - ctrl
KNOWN GLITCHES:
Fireball will go the wrong way if you are moving while casting.
Ghost form takes two presses of control if you die.
End 4 braziers don't replenish your light, but still act as checkpoints.
You can't move in the air when touching a wall.
EXTRA:
Ghosts can only be seen in ghost form, if you die from a wooooo noise, that's a ghost.
The fireball is meant to be used for blind jumps in order to see ahead.
Most of the people have useful advice.
Torches don't stop you from running out of light, they are purely visual and you're better off to just ignore them.
We will be releasing a patched version on the gamemaker #gm_48 discord and here if that is possible.
The patch will address said glitches, and adjust certain puzzles.

Music and SFX - Pressdelight
UPDATE:
The patched version is available to play via downloading the project files.

Unfortunately, This was a pretty confusing experience for me even after reading the controls and instructions. This concept could work a lot better than it does with some more fine tuned design. I appreciate the ideas though.

Thanks for playing. Sorry to hear that it didn't make much sense. We definitely ran out of time to make sure that it was clear how to play. The updated version does include a couple more people with instructions, so that one might make more sense if you wanted to check it out. Thanks for the feedback though!

I liked this! It was fun to figure out where to go and how to use the new abilities to move forward. The mechanic where your light fades out and you die confused me for a good bit at first until I figured it out (and yea I then realized that the tutorial texts explain this very literally!).

Fun game and I'll definitely check out the updated version! I wasn't sure why I was dying after hearing the ruffling sound followed by crows? I started to just run through faster and took others advice to not use the torches instead haha "oof oof!" I loved the sound effects. Great job!

Thanks for playing. Most likely, the reason for why you were dying is because the torches don't actually stop your light from running out, and they make it hard to see how much light you have left, so probably best to just ignore them "oof". Thanks for the feedback.

The whole losing light to light fires mechanic seems like an odd choice. It was an okay game all around though. Good game man.

Hey, thanks for playing, and glad that you liked most of it. For lighting fires, it isn't really meant to make you lose light, but it does take time, so I guess you do end up losing light for it, so yeah, that was a bit of an oversight on our part. Thanks for the feedback.

I really liked the athmosphere in this one! Had a lot of fun playing it. Music was good, art was cool and the mechanics were really interesting as well! At one point I got stuck, where you first had to use your ghost form and then travers the void after the knights...I just couldn't figure it out how to reach the next platform :(
A bit more in-game directions or explanations about the mechanics would've been nice, took me long enough to figure out that my light ran out xD
I'll definitely give the updated version a go!

Thanks for playing and the feedback. That's a good point with the lack of instructions. We do have a couple more npcs in the updated version that give more hints at for certain spots. Glad to hear though that you got as far as you did and that you had fun with it.

Real moody little game, very cool. Thought for a while that torches would replenish my light but they don't seem to. Don't know if it's an oversight but would have been cool. Overall very unique spin on the theme very epic.

Definitely one of the more spooky submissions I've played, but the game quickly got frustrating from how dark everything is. I know that's somewhat supposed to be the point, but I feel like it was a little too difficult to see things sometimes. Other than that, I love the artstyle and sounds!

Very insightful, thank you. I think from this game jam we've realized that building a full difficulty curve into a game that people play for a few minutes isn't a good idea lol. Works fine when you've tested it dozens of times over the course of 2 days, but doesn't work well to just download and play it.

I like the spin on the theme. The sound effects combined with the lighting gave the forest a sinister feeling, which was cool. Unfortunately, the gameplay got a bit too annoying for me to continue after the fireball since there were a bunch of blind jumps. Also I could barely tell walls apart from the void on my monitor, though that's probably because I don't have the brightness up enough lol.

Hey, thanks for the feedback. Yeah, we probably could have made the void a bit easier to see, sorry about that. Also, for the blind jumps, your meant to throw your fireball to see ahead (not sure if you already knew that, I just figured I'd mention it).

I really like the atmosphere building you've done here, this is great to set the mood and the lighting effects are great! I think I need to try and be a bit better at this but the controls were a bit unusual, though I found myself dying far too quickly haha, overall despite the difficulty though, this was a fun entry, good job!

I like the atmosphere of this game, you did a great job with sound and lighting to give it a very specific mood which I think works. I like the gameplay concept of your light source running out over time, but there's a few conflicting things in the game. The torches are kind of a red herring, lighting them is basically useless and you're always better off just running past them (plus, their light obscures how much light you have left). It can also be frustrating when you're in a situation that necessitates a blind jump because you don't have enough light remaining. Still, there's a good amount of content in the game and I enjoyed my time with it.
