What does it feel like to deliver packages?

Find out in this small game about delivery.
Controls are explained in game.

I had a plan for a completely different game, but because of events outside of my control I had to adapt and make a very short a simple game instead.

A meditative experience on the nature of expectation.

It's a shame you couldn't finish your originally-intended game. This one is a neat idea, and there's definitely some merit to a game based on testing patience. 😅

Waiting through that loading screen was hell. I wanted to alt tab to kill time, but at the same time I was worried that I might miss something important if I look away, so I kept tabbing back in every few seconds - just to see if anything had changed.

After a while, at around 30%, I started experimenting. I pressed every key I could on my keyboard, to see if there was absolutely anything I could do to interact with this game, or to speed up the loading screen. After no avail, I started clicking randomly until I discovered that you can destroy the parcels as they fall

...Though that just slows down the process, so after a while of just spamming it to see if anything interesting would happen (with the only discovery I made being that if I spam destroy the falling parcel enough times, the target suddenly dissapears for a second or so before reappearing), I returned to waiting. Though it still felt like I was missing something, I had no clue what that something was. Was this secretly a genius game, with some secret mechanic waiting to be found? Only time would tell.

At 50%, I decided to check out of curiosity how much time had passed. The answer: 28 minutes. Going off the fact that I spent a lot of time spam destroying the package, I'm assuming it normally takes 25 minutes for the percentage to reach 50% (thus 30 seconds per package, thus another 25 minutes to go, assuming the speed stays).

By 90%, I was counting down the minutes in my head until this long, long wait would finally end. I felt like a kid who had ordered an amazon package for the first time, and would stroll around the door all day until their order finally arrived, because I wanted to get my package as soon as possible. In a similar way, I just wanted the ending to this all to finally arrive.

And before I knew it, after exactly 53 minutes (looks like my timing was accurate), it had finally arrived. The loading bar had hit 100%, and I got the prompt to begin installation. I paused for a second, anticipating what would happen next, before hesistantly pressing space.

    .... ..... ......

As it turns out, my hell was not quite over yet. But I was too far in to give up. So, I prepared myself for a long night, and yet again, sat there and began to patiently wait for the installation to complete. Still refusing to look away for more than a minute, else I might miss something. In heinsight, I should have used all of this waiting time to do something productive, like reading a book, or continuing my studies, but I was too stubborn to do any of these things.

    So I waited....

And after a long wait - another 52 minutes to be exact - the installation was finally complete. I was yet again prompted to move onto the next stage. By this point, I had spent 105 minutes sitting here staring at a loading screen, so I was desperately hoping that there would be no more after this - else I might lose my sanity.

With that in mind, I pressed space to start the game...

Never have I been so pained to see an error message in my life.

Was it because I destroyed some of the parcels during the waiting process? Is this actually a multi-ending game depending on whether all of the parcels get delivered safely or not? Had I messed up? A large amount of questions ran through my mind, questions which will probably still haunt me for years to come.

I want to restart, to try the game again and see if I could have avoided this fate, but I don't know if I'm willing to give up that time. For now, I retreat. But one day, I plan on returning, and finding out for real the truth behind this game.

For a game with so little content, it's impressing how much of an emotional rollercoaster of pain and suffering that this put me through - due largely to both my impatience, stubborness, and fear of missing out. Even if the ending of this delivery was underwhelming, to me, it's the journey that counts. And this journey isn't one I'm going to forget anytime soon.

Good job on the game jam!

I'm realizing I never thanked you for that huge comment!

Reading what you wrote made me very happy at the time (still does) because it was exactly my goal when I made this. And I honestly didn't expect anyone to go through with it, and even less to then post such a detailed message!

      Also I'm very sorry :')

This was a very unique submission. I was very curious what was going to happen after each stage, I just kinda wish that there had been something a bit more interesting at the end. I did notice though that you said you ran out of time which is too bad.

Jokes aside, I'm sorry you couldn't go for what you planned at the start. Waiting for the whole loading to finish did create a lot of expectation, but in the end it was a disappointment, to say the least :(

As soon as I saw the long loading bar, I knew what I was going to get into with this game, but I was hoping it would present me with something interesting at the end. I won't spoil it here, but I wasn't really impressed. To be honest, it's not even a game, as the only interactions you can perform make things take longer. I would have enjoyed some sort of clever way to speed things up, but either I'm stupid or you really do just have to wait it out. To be honest, this game is kind of nothing. I felt like I could have downloaded an animated gif and gotten more enjoyment out of it.
